  1. Here's where we are up to now. The following are (tenetatively) attending: agm notQuickDraw Scott_Johnston rvanrens +1 +.5 DanielK hillvalley mdt shogun StephenB cucas87 crackers principia tweaked CrescentFresh goldenticket (?) escoffier grover (the instigator) Gee, 3 more and we get the free egg-rolls... . Now, for the next two big decisions, what night works best for the majority and which restaurant would you prefer? The choices are: 1. A restaurant that's close to I-495 and easily found and is somewhat small 2. A traditional Korean restaurant that's more hidden but handles large crowds of Korean tour buses every day 3. A "new-style" blonde-wood and fern bar type Korean restaurant with more Americanized Korean food. 4. A Korean only place where the menu is printed on a placemat, in Korean, the waitstaff might have one English speaking person, and most of us will be asked if we want forks.
  2. Please file your problem with the complaint department. That's 15th floor, left off the elevator, pink door on your right at the end of the hall....NEXT PLEASE!!!!
  3. I'm open to any night that people might want to go. I'm just the instigator here, talk it over amongst yourselves and let me know what night works best and we'll go from there. Sunday nights would be good because it's somewhat a quiet night...but whatever works best for all.
  4. Looking forward to it. Now just to pick a specific Monday night and count heads and figure out who needs rides and ... and ... and ... ad infinitum.
  5. Okay, that's a bit of a relief. What time would be most convenient for you? We'll work around your schedule as much as possible.
  6. Okay, now for the really big question. Annandale is not close to ANY metro station. Car-less people would have to be picked up at either King St or Braddock Road metro. How much of a problem does this present? If this is insurmountable, I'm not sure what can be done. There are alternatives but they are not as good, more expensive or more "American". I'd prefer to give you the plain unvarnished Korean food experience (the one that I have come to know and love) but if you can't get there, it wouldn't be possible. Again, all comments (good, bad but not indifferent) are welcomed.
  7. Well, that certainly explains the lack of leaves...
  8. always glad to add another resource to my search for good wines. Thanks.
  9. If we should happen to manage to make the lottery it will be our initial outing...I'm sure that a lot of tasty, interesting courses will be served. I keep reading scallops...I love scallops...
  10. While we will be regretfully unable to be there tonight, we will be there for dinner on Saturday night. The three of us will be throwing ourselves on your good graces to recommend dinner...
  11. Okay, wow! that's some drive for dinner... How about if we say a Monday night for starters? Would that be good with everyone? Then we can find a mutually agreeable time. My +1 and I will post some basic Korean food facts shortly so that everyone will have an idea of what's in store.
  12. And now for something (somewhat) completely different... A $20 Korean dinner night (a Tuesday night dinner on Monday night?). If my wonderful (and Korean) +1 and I can find a suitable venue for dinner, would you prefer to order from the menu, have gentle guidance and order from the menu, close your eyes and point to order from the menu, or have a somewhat "fixed" menu? (of course, we could always go to one of about 200 Korean buffets and everyone could take a chance). Your responses are solicited.
  13. Because Korean restaurants don't seem to ever close, a Monday night is as good a night as a Thursday (or a Tuesday). Whatever night the group decides is good with me...
  14. Oh but we did indeed have the pork with ferny (bracken) vegetables. Those little brown straw like thingies were the ferns (a staple in Korean food as well). I don't have too much to add other than the food and the company were both excellent with a wide variety of both. My +1 and I look forward to many more of these. I'm planning to create the "ultimate $20 Tuesday Korean food nosh" for the near future. If I can get goldenticket to organize that as well as she organized this one, it will be food nirvana.
  15. Only when you're 20 years old and away from home the first time...
  16. Without intending to muddy the waters (mull the wine?)...I have found winezap.com to be a very good source of hard to find, esoteric, fine wines. They allow you to compare wine prices from wine stores across the US. I've found the Jindalee that I was looking for in NJ via Winezap so for me, it works.
  17. Well then, how about Twenty Dollar Weeknights or Twenty Dollar Treatnights or Twenty Dollar Eat-out-nights? Select one, no charge for the intellectual (?) property rights.
  18. If you can make it to Braddock Road or King St. Metro, we can make sure you make this one.
  19. R.I.P. Joel, you are greatly missed... Now, back to our regularly scheduled mayhem already in progress...
  20. oh my!! I'm speechless. homogenization, here we come..
  21. While I can understand dieting slightly off-balanced and with bad underpinnings (precariously), I think you'll probably want to eat vicariously with us (well, actually you'd probably prefer to literally eat with us rather than figuratively)....life is too short to eat bad food..
  22. Shuman's Bakery on S. Washington St. in Alexandria...been there forever, great for Sunday brunch, lazy paper reading and relaxing. Alexandria Pastry Shop in Brad-Lee Shopping Center (next to the wine shop. Two temptations within easy shopping distance)
  23. Just spoke to the +1 and she's all for it. She will be coming home around 5:00 so I have to regretfully withdraw the offer of a ride from the Braddock Rd Metro, but I can offer you a ride to either Braddock Rd or King St. station when we leave. This is getting close to New Years and will be a great way to kick off our own personal celebration. See you there at 7:30 or so (knowing her, probably a bit earlier)
