  1. Put me and the +1 down for a definite maybe. That's close to home and we can give 2 people a ride from Braddock Road metro (that's where my +1 alights from her daily toil) ... she normally arrives around 6:30 or so.
  2. Try the new one in Alexandria on Duke Street across the street from Table Talk. Decent supply of esoterica, a good prepared foods section. My better half and I had dinner there the other night, both had roast leg of lamb, she had roasted fingerling potatoes, I had french cut green beans and sauteed asparagus. Not bad for around $10. The lamb was excellent, way better than I expected.
  3. maybe we could take up a collection...put me down for a couple of bucks...
  4. You might also try the shabu-shabu or the sukiyaki at Yamazoto in Alexandria. I'd put both of those up against any restaurant in the area. I have seen hot pots at Huong Que in Eden Center as well. A bit of a haul (which is why we go to Yamazoto) but worth the time and effort. I've had hot pots in Taipei at the Mongolian barbecue around the corner from the Hotel Baguio (another food story for later). A HUGE buffet with rabbit and venison and beef and pork and lamb and other things you probably don't want to know about and tons of veggies. Lots of sauces on the table and great soup at the end when all the "solid" ingredients are gone.
  5. How did you like Bistro Flo? It is a favorite of my wife and me. We try to get there every trip to Paris as well as to La H'uitre (The Oyster in case my Francais is incorrect). Small but easily found restaurant with excellent oysters (per the name), clams and shrimp.
  6. I'm curious as to why you'd want to take it into a restaurant at all? You're not a PWD, you're able-bodied, you wouldn't drive your pickup truck into a restaurant lobby, why would you ride a motorized vehicle (and by definition, that's what a Segway is) into one? Why not just lock it up outside (like people with bicycles seem to do) and walk through the door. If you have a medical reason, fine. If you have a self esteem reason, not so fine. Just because you classify it as a mobility device, I could apply that label to motorized skateboards, Ferraris, and probably HUMVEEs. I don't think that means I can park them in some restaurant coatroom, or worse, take them to the table with me. I have nothing against Segways or any other "new" device, I just have problems with people who seem to think they can flaunt their toys and make others feel envious.
  7. well, I already knew a lot of that, but it didn't really answer how long the nice ladies have been serving that great soul food...I think it might also qualify as one of the older "dining rooms" in the area.
  8. Does anyone know how long the "cafeteria/lunchroom/dining hall" in the church meeting hall basement at Daddy Grace's Church (1800 6th St. NW) has been in existence? For soul food, it's hard to find a better place to eat. The fried trout at Flavors is a pale imitation (even though it's great). Edited to add address and official name of the church: United House of Prayer for All People.
  9. Royal Restaurant 734 N. St. Asaph St., 703/548-1616 An Alexandria institution - celebrating 100 years in 2004! - famous for breakfast served all day, plus family favorites. So it's 102 and still going....
  10. Hmmmmmph!!! (you get to do that when you get officially old)...not much of a clue when it yields the following: DSFRemoteUI error '800a000d' Type mismatch D:\WWWROOT\DOH\NEWS_ROOM_DSF\../DSF_RemoteUI/DSF_RemoteUI_inc.asp, line 143 You think we broke their database?
  11. I'm so happy you didn't say YOUR sweetbreads were great! Great!...the image, the image...
  12. with my legs, it would probably be better for your appetite if I didn't
  13. Damn! I might cancel my reservation at Restaurant Eve and come to your house...Osso Buco....my favorite...with risotto?
  14. My +1 and I are going to Restaurant Eve to the Bistro. Three course Prix Fixe dinner...yummy...
  15. We're talking about the Scottish restaurant on King Street about a block off of Washington St. Is there another Scottish restaurant in the area?
  16. Only the best Pho place in the DC area...Pho 75 the original (even though they moved down a couple of doors). I first had pho there in 1980 and the quality has only gotten better.
  17. Thanks, couldn't remember the name...from what I remember the time I ate there, the Korean bbq is very good...(kalbi on order...yummm)...the 'regular' bbq is also very good.
  18. My wife (who is Korean) is in that area at work. I'll have her call and find out the hours. Saturday mornings are usually spent at Super H in Fairfax but maybe I can talk her out of it for a trip to Youngs.
  19. Where is Capri located? Close to Oggi?
  20. I'm a touch partial to their Osso Bucco as the veal chop seems to be getting a bit fatty lately. Had dinner there in November and the Osso Bucco was just like my mom would make if she were Italian...
  21. The restaurant that was going to open before Vermilion...glad to hear it's finally going to open. Had long talks a long time ago about Rustico when it was supposed to be in Del Ray where the Caboose is now..
