chickenlover
In other beer news, the Lagunitas tasting last night at the Brick was fuuuun. Some of their beers aren't to my taste (brown shugga in particular), but others are spot-on (Pils, IPA, barleywine). I remember liking the Brown Shugga when I lived on the west coast, and not liking it as much when I had a bottle recently. Could be a freshness issue, or maybe they changed the recipe? Overall, I love the brewery and am glad I can get their beers here in DC. Now if only I can get my hands on some Deschutes...

Could be a freshness issue, or maybe they changed the recipe? Overall, I love the brewery and am glad I can get their beers here in DC. Now if only I can get my hands on some Deschutes... Ron Lindenbusch, the guy from Lagunitas who was talking at the tasting, said that the recipe originally came about because they were trying to make the barleywine and overloaded their mash tun. Since they didn't get enough sugar from the grains, they had to drive around to every grocery store in the area and buy all their brown sugar. I imagine the recipe has been altered as time goes on, since buying grocery store brown sugar is likely to give different results from buying it in bulk. Bottom line: it's still way too sweet for me. edenman
Anybody seen the Lagunitas Hop Stoopid in bottles? I had it on draft last night at work and I want to pick up a few bottles for home consumption and/or aging...

edenman
Is it similiar to or did it replace the Maximus? I get the impression that it's a one-off (it says "brewed once" on this beeradvocate page). I would love to taste them side-by-side, but the abv is a bit bigger in the stoopid (8.2 vs maximus's 7.5) and I got more citrus and more pine from the stoopid. edenman
Lagunitas Brown Shugga Ale. I'm getting a bit worn out on these increasingly high alcohol microbrews, but this is really pleasant stuff. The whopping 10% alcohol level almost goes unnoticed. I'll have to give it another try. They're one of my favorite west-coast breweries, and that beer is one of the few from them that I have ever hated. Maybe they toned down the brown sugar byproducts: last time I had it, it was just too much.

I hate sweetness in beer, but tried this just last week and was pleasantly surprised it wasn't sweeter.

Pizzaandbrew
I'm on my second six pack now of the Lagunitas Brown Shugga. Fun stuff! Was on draft at RFD earlier this wk - not a handle you see too frequently, so get it when you can...
SeanMike
Since you woke up? It would make gummint work more fun. I saw it at Ace last week, forgot to buy it. Bought a six of it at Total Wine, polished it off in one night. Last night bought another six of it at Westover Market and managed to keep it to two of them. edenman
Lagunitas New Dogtown Pale Ale. Their pale used to be good. Tweaked, it's great...borderline IPA, with lots of grassy dry-hopped character, nice refreshing citric bitterness, mellow caramel malt backbone. This is solid stuff. Pool Boy
I like their Little Sumpin Sumpin.
aaronsinger
I like their Little Sumpin Sumpin. Me, too. Good, affordable six-pack, I picked it up recently for $8.99. The wild is even better, but I'm cheap and it's usually $11 or $12. I should head down to the city sometime and visit their (massive) new brewery.
