DanCole42
For some reason (OCD?), I've been stockpiling wine corks. I have two 1-gallon ZipLoc bags filled to bursting. Does anyone know of a USE for them? I've thought about tossing some on the coals on my grill as smoking agents. Any ideas?
jparrott
Mount each on a 5" x 7", stained mahogany plaque. Below the mounted cork, affix a brass nameplate with the inscription, "Not Romantic". Extra filigree is acceptable.

dinwiddie
Make a "cork" board. Actually, they sell kits just to do that. I got one from my wife a couple of years ago, but still haven't managed to find the time to do it.
zoramargolis
I had a great collection going--a bucket-ful. My husband persuaded me to throw them away. When I was in L.A. last Spring, I went to a gallery in Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, and saw chairs made out of wine corks that had been drilled and wired together. Big, easy chairs made completely out of thousands of wine corks each. And I've got to tell you, they were extremely comfortable. And extremely expensive. I can't even conceive of how much time it took to make one, or how the artist had acquired all those corks. Didn't I read that someone built an entire boat out of wine corks? Got a few years with nothing else to do?
NotQuickDraw
If you do Christmas, get an upholstery needle, string them, and put them on your tree!
AlliK
Cut a bit of the height down so that one fits VERY snugly under the handle of an All Clad pot lid. This allows you to pick up the lids by the cork instead of the handles which get hot. They shrink up a little when you wash them, so that's why you want a tight fit to start with. This is way better than that crap that lunatic Heloise puts out.

What I do now is keep them near the fireplace. I use them to start fires and rejuvenate sputtering/dying fires. They work great!

Cooter
My parents use them as mulch. I keep them in a drawer until my wife yells at me to, "Throw those goddamn corks out!"

yeuxblu
We covered the frame of an ugly mirror with our collection. It's over flowing again so I'm not sure what's next- maybe the bathroom floor and a bit of epoxy work.
Pool Boy
I have heard of people making trivets out of them, too.I still save a few special corks, but my cats upend the container and play with them until they disappear forever. <sigh>
