Michael Klein of philly.com has reported that Tin Roof, a Nashville-based live music joint ("joint" seems to be an apt descriptor - it's to be three stories and 12,000-square-feet) will be opening across from Ladder 15 on Sansom Street.

You give us Alain Ducasse; we give you The Fractured Prune. "Fractured Prune Launches National Expansion ...." by Lorraine Mirabella on baltimoresun.com "The 37-year-old chain now has 13 locations in Maryland, including Ocean City, Parkville, Halethorpe, Frederick and Salisbury, and in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Later this month, a Fractured Prune will open in Utah, with more planned for New York City, Philadelphia, northern New Jersey, Arizona, California, Florida, Nebraska, Nevada, Idaho, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, Brinton said." The name sounds ridiculous until you read about its backstory - it's actually kind of sweet (pun intended).

ad.mich just posted the below on the independent coffee house thread so all credit there and I'd thought I'd start a new topic to get us started. MadCap's entry into DC is big news for the local coffee scene. Currently served at Dolcezza, Buzz Bakery (and other NRG spots including Evening Star) and no doubt another spot or two (like a "penn quarter porter" brew at ChurchKey). Not sure that a specific address is yet available but should be soon since they were targeting "beginning of 2012" when first announced. MadCap's October, 2011 announcement here A more recent blogpost about a MadCap cupping at Woodberry Kitchen here I'm guessing no lease is yet signed (no surprise if so given local zoning/permitting, eh? ) These guys should instantly join our top tier once open.

Unless there is some magical reprieve (property values in Arlington falling precipitously overnight?) Dr. Dremo, the glorious dive bar and pool hall, will be closing after last call tonight. I believe they're having a live band and some cheap drink specials tonight to mark the sad occasion; I'm holding out for "hey, we can't take the Guinness with us, might as well give it all to Josh." Come see the place that Don Rockwell said looked like "a junkyard run by Ed Gein."

Prince of Petworth reports on a coming, presumably Egyptian restaurant in Georgetown that even has koshari in its name! I haven't had koshari since I lived in Cairo for a summer in the late 1990s, but I lived on the stuff back then and would love to see a decent version come to DC.

So, I've been watching this spot at 910 17th Street, you know somewhere between Suntrust Bank and Firehook Bakery, two places not too far from my Metro stops that I visit with some frequency. The place is still under construction, but on the sign that covers the glass front there's a quote from someone I have never heard of raving about Chef Miguel Choy (and making reference to his restaurant Yuzu in London. Instead of being so cynical, I want to say that I hope this place is good! The fact that Mervis Diamonds and (sorry) Chevy Chase Bank are the other two businesses on the block worries me a bit. So, what's the dilio? <edited for fiction and grammar>
