Please feel free to merge if there is an existing thread (I could not find it). Chicken on the Run...is it a micro-local chain or a stand alone joint? I really don't care. I'm now working in Bethesda again (woo-hoo!) and I noticed this place even before my first day yesterday and I knew I needed to try it. Wow. This is possibly the best peruvian chicken I have tasted, with Que Rico fighting for the title but losing by a hair (and it is way up in Owings Mills, MD). I think it must be the charcoal flavor/wood flavor I am tasting that makes me giddy. The mild sauce is very good, and the green hot sauce is nice, better than just pure pureed jalapenos, but still not up to the level of Que Rico in Owings Mills -- not 'creamy' enough while retaining heat (too watery). The rice is good, but not what I ordered but it was so busy I did not bother to try to get it fixed. The yuca was really nice and lightly treated in the fryer. I hope to go back and try the fries and salad next time. While I did not try the corn, it looked weak. My only real complaint about the place is that their chickens are, um, small. Or maybe that is just how they cut them. My quarter dark meat section was pretty small by my standard, which is OK since I am on a diet and this was and never will be diet food, but I thought I'd mention it for those who might care (like me when I really want to fall off the wagon, hard.)...

I can't believe I haven't started a thread for Pinkerton's yet. We've eaten here a half-dozen times by now, and find new things to love with each visit. Up until now, we haven't hit a major line situation, though with them making the latest Texas Monthly Top 50, that may change. Unlike most Central Texas BBQ places Pinkerton's not only serves beer (with $1 beer Thursdays), but has a full bar which stays open late even if they've sold out of meat. The brisket here is a solid rendition, and an order I never go without when we're here. I've never had a dry piece, though there was one time it was tender to the point of mushiness. Haven't had anything similar before or since, so it must have been an aberration. The pork ribs here are certainly tender, though they are a bit too sweet for my tastes. Others (in my own family) disagree. The beef rib I had on our last visit was massive and excellent. No reason it wouldn't hold its own with the big boys in Taylor, TX. Sides are standard, elevated by an extra mustardy potato salad and the ultra-rich duck and sausage jambalaya. The vibe here is friendly and low-key, with communal tables inside, and corn hole boards and picnic tables outside.

I spent all day feeling terrible and craving soup, so when N came home we wandered over to 18th to try out Ben Tre, which apparently opened in August. I've been craving canh chua for weeks now, and I already knew that Pho 14's version doesn't really do it for me. But, man, did I score tonight! The soup hit all the high notes- sweet, sour, spicy- with yummy bits of pineapple and lots of tomato. There were little puffy bits of pork belly in there, too, and okra and pepper flakes. It was amazing and perfect. The shrimp toast appears to be shrimp paste, on toast, and then the whole thing appears to be battered and then deep fried. 3 pieces to an order. It is both good, and a little horrifying. N had a spicy beef soup which was also really tasty, but not what I wanted. Which was fine, because I was blissfully happy with my own soup. Now that I have found this place, I may be here at least once a week, it's a 5 minute walk from home.

I have been into Dos Amigos several times over 6 months or so and I find it pretty darn good for such a small place. It seems to be a family business. Great, inexpensive food and good margaritas. My only complaint is that the margaritas are now in glasses smaller than when they opened. Great place to go especially if you're near Braddock Metro.

Maria's Carryout Website Looking for a tasty lunch in Timonium? Here is the shop I have been going to my entire life, Maria's Carryout. Sure ther are a few other locations, but this was always my faviorite and IMHO the best. Try a Italian or a cheesesteak. Short on funds, their "garlic bread" has cheese on it as well, great sub alternative. Not a destination, just great food as a decent price.
