  1. A friend and I went to Ray's The Classics last Friday and were rewarded with a nice meal. I began with a cup of the crab bisque and it was delicious--smooth and full of crabmeat. When it came to appetizers, he got the Cajun ribeye while I opted for a unadorned ribeye (with horseradish sauce). Mine was excellent and I didn't hear any complaints on his side. All in all a fine experience. I might add that I have tried the steak au poivre before and enjoyed it a great deal. It had a nice kick but the pepper didnt overwhelm the meat.
  2. Fortunately, the Open Table system worked for me the second time around so I dropped by last night for a fine meal. The puntarella was amazing and the dressing was a perfect match for the greens' bitterness. The antipasti platter was quite good (especially the mozzarella) and the lamb pasta was delicious. The cherry tomatoes in the pasta sauce were particularly tasty. I had a glass of the "spicy" red and enjoyed it much. IIRC, it was a 2005 but for the life of me I could not tell you what region it was from. I was a very happy camper when I left the establisment and there's a good chance I'll be back again. Total damage for the night: $45.19 before tip and worth every penny. rob t.
  3. I'd like to go to Dino's tonight and I was wondering: do you think I'll need a reservation before 6:30? I am a party of one and Dino doesn't seem to accept reservations for singletons in OpenTable.
  4. hi there, my name is Rob Thornton and i live in the Land of Strip Malls (aka Rockville Pike). i've got a limited food budget so i'm here to get more from my food dollar. i began in eGullet and went out to a DC dinner with some of those folks (Bob's Noodles 66) but it seems that there's more local chat at DonRocks so voila i am here. one food tip: the local Crisp & Juicy seems to have picked up some slack in the last few months and is becoming competitive with El Pollo Rico again. Crisp tasty skin and moist chicken--ahh thats the stuff. rob
