  1. For those of you lazy like me, here is link: http://www.aiwf.org/dc/
  2. For those of you who enjoyed the DC Taste of the Nation - or wished you had - the Philadelphia Taste of the Nation is June 20, 2011 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel in Philadelphia, PA for $85 or $135 for VIP. And via twitter they are now offering a 20% discount code (up from the 15% offered a few weeks ago). My wife and I will attend this event for the second year. It's much smaller than DC but just as good. Last year a few mixologist were up there from DC. I personally enjoy the smaller scale event more. It's not quite as hectic with people and I find myself enjoying myself more even though there are fewer dishes. Both last year and this we were able to get 4* hotels in City Center for under $100/night via Priceline - last year the Hayat across the street and this year the Loews were the event is taking place (I think we got the Lowes for $75+tax). Philadelphia is a great city to travel to for dinning and it's very easy to get to these days with nice short few hour trip on MegaBus - or you can drive up and pay for parking... If you make a weekend out of it remember that lots of PHI is BYOB - last time we were up we enjoyed a leisurely meal at www.noblecookery.com which is pre-fix and BYOB on Sunday nights. -- twitter quote: TasteNationPHL Share Our Strength Now's your chance to get 20% off Taste tickets. Code is FBPHIL2011, and offer ends Fri at midnight. Get 'em here: http://tinyurl.com/3ovgfl8
  3. I'll bring an one medium sized empty cooler, leaving from arlington now.
  4. My wife Susan and I will show up after Bike DC. I think she has mango black bean salad planned, and I don't have a clue as to what I'll want to make – I’m probably leaning towards a meat but it really depends on what is on sale that week.
  5. I find texting rude – but then both my wife and I don’t use cell phones much at all. I don’t really eat out much that much, so mostly I see it at group dinners where I’m not really close to the others in the group. It feels odd, I believe that everyone is at the dinner supposedly be there to eat food together and meet new people, but some segment of the group feels the need to escape the event they choose to attend and play on their phone rather than making the continual the effort to create/join conversations. Generally I find it hard to create conversation but I still expect the others to stay attentive to the group as a whole – otherwise why not just eat by yourself? Sort of like I could only talk to my wife – which I do a lot despite trying to minimize it – but I still make the effort talk to others and add to the group.
  6. So the date I found was completely wrong, this is the correct date: Monday, April 25, 2011 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM (ET) Washington, DC And Deals For Deeds is offering discounts to this event for the next two days: http://dealsfordeeds.com/ $75 for ticket to Sweet Charity event on 4/25 ($110 value) Here is some info and the link to purchase full price tickets: http://sweetcharity2011.eventbrite.com/ The event is a tasting station type event with lots of sweets and some savories. It also has a runway type event component with models dressed in chocolate.
  7. Good luck, I’m extremely partial to fixed priced complete meals with a reasonable amount of drinks and tax/tip priced. I like the idea of knowing what you will pay before you arrive and leaving the food/drink mix to the chefs – and I have no problem eating early… Please consider working out some off hours deals, say similar to pre-theater menus that may be more complete (and a bit more pricy) or every simple yet economical offerings – i.e. the Dino $10/burger and beer offer this week (but price it as $13 with tax and tip included). Also I think it would be good for restaurants to have a this week only sale outlet – they might sell 1,000 coupons on GroupOn but that doesn’t mean that they will be full this week – but I assume that they will be full to the gills right as the coupon is about to expire.
  8. I might be blind but I don't see the date - here it is - Monday, June 20, 2011

    Goat Meat

I have a Kenyan friend who is missing cooking with goat meat. He says that he is having a hard time finding it around here. Where can it be found in the DC area? Bonus points for Northern VA! Thanks in advance.
  11. I wonder how many will be there during the day? The Yellow Cart is still sitting in front of my building and obviously not there.
  12. For district based stores closer to Bethesda these are the one's I'm most familiar with and both have fairly strong websites for pre-shopping their sales items: Person's usually has a good number of bottles open for their tastings: http://www.pearsonswine.com Calvert Woodley usually has some assortment of lower cost cheese on sale - maybe they do the same with wine: http://www.calvertwoodley.com/
  13. Thanks for posting the menu, my wife Susan and I will attend with pairings.
  14. In Arlington, near Shirlington: http://www.afacinfo.org/afac_find.html I don't know if you mean cooked food, if so that is not the best place - a food bank type distribution center. I'm sure they take veggies and frozen food, along with the usual dry goods.
  15. My wife Susan and I would be interested in attending if it was on Tuesday the 15th.
  16. I go each year, its much more casual than say Taste of the Nation, but is a good selection of good food for a much lower price. It is family friendly with a play area for kids, and music for the adults. Usually sodas and water are free and drinks are a cash bar.
  17. My personally feeling is that the tuna was the spiciest yet and it continues to get better as it gets spicier...
  18. FYI: Savor is sold out now, if you don't have tickets there is no need to worry about if you want to go.
  19. Working in the area I find crossfire's fries are almost my favorite despite the stink of the place - don't stay to long or you will smell like grease. I prefer them to most other Bethesda restaurants other than Houston's fries. They are sort of limp when fried but have a good flavor and appear to be only treated with oil and salt. My opinion of the burger is that doesn't taste bad, but really un-noticeable. For that reason I always eat a large fry and only the base burger.
