  1. I looked a the first three and they are all using WordPress with different templates. You can tell by looking at the end of the code at some of the javascript tags for the /wp-content/themes/ links. So although they look the similar they are customizations/formatting of distinct WordPress templates. 2. I would not plan on doing any work on WIFI. I generally find it fairly poor quality and when you get into NJ you loose your personal Cell Data as well at times. The bus quality depends on the network and how overloaded the bus users make the connection. One benefit of arriving early is a better seat selection. Most buses do not have reserved seats so people line up in advance and board based on their position inline. So if you arrive early you are more likely to get your preferred window or isle seat and be near the front of the bus farther away from the bathroom. I've not taken MegaBus recently but I've read that they now offer prepaid seat locations.
  3. The big brands are still in existence. But yes the DC pickup spots have changed most have moved to union station.
  4. Tolls will run you almost $100 round trip... I'd take MegaBus, Vamoose another, see: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/artsandliving/travel/busreview/
  5. So does that make Fig & Olive a fast-casual dining spot during the time the chain's New York-based commissary supplied the DC Fig & Olive restaurants? Going back to fast food, does that make Wendy's a fast-casual? Random internet quote: "Overall, Wendy's hamburgers appear to be the freshest due to their made-to-order process" @ https://brainmass.com/business/business-management/mcdonalds-vs-burger-king-vs-wendy-s-processes-406411 Also based on that definition Taco Bell becomes fast-casual? For as long as I've known you could watch them assemble your meal in the work area.
  6. I honestly see no difference between Chipotle and McDonalds as businesses. Other than McDonalds may be faster (and a larger footprint) and Chipotle might be higher quality food. From a city planning standpoint I don't see why the city would allow an Chipotle but not a TacoBell. Looking back at why DC made it difficult for fast food to open I have to assume they didn't want a proification of cookie cutter resturnats killing all the local businesses? I don't think back in the day they were worried that healthy restaurants were driven out by fast food - but I could be wrong. If I'm right on the history how are &Pizza/RiceBar/Skewer/roti, etc... locations any different than any other fast food establishments each one has the capability of driving out a local business? They are high traffic, generate tons of take out, survive by taking a significant portion of the lunch business for the area, etc.... Everyone of these business are trying to expand (or would like to) and will offer a consistent set of food across the country. Chipotle already all over. Just because it has more "real" or "healthier" food doesn't make it much different than as Subway/Jimmy Johns, Burger King etc... In the end we frequent these types of places because we want good tasting food at a low price, and for various reasons we are choosing them over the legacy fast food. (I eat at a lot of these restaurants and much less often at legacy fast food.)
  7. The sign on the street said grand opening so it's past the soft opening. Also looked like they were doing an ok volume of take out.
  8. Went there yesterday based on a recommendation my wife forwarded from dcfud.com blog. It was after 1:20 or so and the place was fairly empty. Ordered pork dumplings and Reren Signature Lamen, my lunch partner had Kung-Fu Noodles. Noodles were good but I felt the taste was more Chinese than Japanese - but I'm no expert there. My Signature Lamen was sort of creamy and had things like boc choy in it, which makes it less desirable in my book. I would go to Daikaya before this one but would use Reren Lamem if the wait was too long for Daikaya. So basically my openion is its nice to have it as a backup, but it would not be my first choice to bring additional people to...
  9. I wish people would post the prices in their announcements and homepage. Most of us have price points for events. I personally have NEVER read about an event and became so excited that I ignored my price point once I clicked through far enough to learn the price. Instead I feel like I've wasted my time if I have to click through a few pages just to learn how much the even costs and find its above my price point. We went to this event last year and enjoyed it. Early on it was VERY crowded with lots of lines, later in the afternoon it was less crowded and we had good access to the tastings. Overall it felt like most of the higher demand tastings like the Raclette station lasted. We stopped by Dino beforehand and shared a burger so we could deal with the slowness to get to taste. At $40/each we will not attend but it still is a great opportunity if you value local/smaller cheese producers. Most of these cheeses are over $20/lb so the value of the cheese you taste is probably very high.
  10. Remember your GE fees are refundable by quite a few higher end credit cards now, Amex Platinum and some of the Premier Citibank cards. You pay the fee via the annual fee, but it helps to justify some of the high annual fees. And remember with GE your entry to the US is as slow as your luggage, so if you check bags and do not have status or premium seats you might end up waiting a long time at baggage claim anyway. We love precheck and GE and usually do not check bags so entry is quick. Those premium cards also usually come with some sort of lounge scheme, i.e. Priority Pass for the card holder. Which is the BA lounge at IAD before 2 pm, and now the AirFrance lounge at IAD (we like this lounge, also included with Iceland Air business class...) and the AirSpace lounge at BWI, non at DCA. We have enjoyed the Centurion lounges at DFW, LAS, and SEA with the Amex Platinum, and have not been to LGA, MIA, and SFO... These days we have so many points from opening credit cards that we don't buy many tickets. The two flights we bought last year were all incredible deals we read about on sites like @theflightdeal etc... both Santiago Chile and Dublin Ireland (both with connections) were sold in the $360 range.
  11. January 17th might be bad for people as that is the long MLK Day weekend.
  12. We had a perfectly pan fried red snapper (like) fish dinner at Café Haiti a few years ago. Its more of a coffee shop with food but that fish was perfectly crusted and the highlight of our food well in Reykjavík. (We did go for high end food.) If I were to return I'd hope for a repeat so I'm happy to see it mentioned by @Skysplitter.
  13. We received bubbly at Don Julio for the wait. Parilla La Cabrera in Palermo Soho has a 1/2 priced "happy hour." Arrive at 7 PM and finish your meal by 8 PM all days of the week at 50% off entire check. It was well worth it and allows you to eat much ealier than normal (and faster). Here is someone's blog post that describes it: http://www.traveling9to5.com/2012/12/how-to-eat-an-argentina-steak-for-half-price-in-buenos-aires/ We enjoyed this meal but accidentally ordered a large avocado/hearts of palm salad that was much too large and cost as much as a steak. Well in BA realize that the servers are happy for you to split entrees. We don't eat a ton, so at most restaurants we ordered one steak and some apps or sides and split the steak. That ended up being a perfect sized meal. Also re Cash xoom.com just upped the exchange rate for legal cash transfers from dollars to ARS to 15.0405 versus the blue rate of 15.88 pesos. So if you are able to get to a zoom pickup point that's a good way to get your money without dealing with the Blue Rate folks... I never picked up my money and they refunded it (because I was unable to get to my desired site on Friday afternoon when I arrived and two other pickup points were closed on Saturday and I had another source of cash...)
  14. Ok the key is to Archive? This looks like what you want: "Email Backup/Archival Program That Saves Email as *.txt Files" on askubuntu.com see the last comment about how to get it to a Maildir format which the comment says is a text file... ** also if you have access to this account via Outlook (windows) or Apple Mail (mac) I might be able to whip up a script to print each mail (you set the default printer to your PDF printer)
  15. Fresh Market took the former Giant Foods space, I think it was a one unit to one unit transition. Capital Bagel Bakery was in the area of the new Urgent Care center, which probably took that space plus the former Blockbuster Video space.
  16. I stopped by last week. I've only eaten Ethiopian a few times so I had no idea what to order so I just ordered the first item on the menu the Misir Wat. It was good. I was a bit surprised that it was not overflowing in flavors given the description on the board but that could be how it was supposed to be. I recall it as being mild flavored. The meal was large, it came on injera and then had another piece of injera on the top. I eat my fill and didn't even get through the first picked of injera and then took it home and my wife nibbled on it for a few days. I was left fairly happy with the meal, not somewhere I'd go often but once and a while. Price wise it seemed a great value due to the size of the meal.
  17. I went today. I thought it was ok, something to eat once and a while. It's closer than other "sushi" options and can cost less. I was wondering how eating the large roll would be and it worked out well. So I'll be more willing to try the cheaper small sushi rolls at that automated place up past 14 and P. I was dismayed that one of the two tuna portions had a huge amount of "gristle" in it so I had to take it out and peal the tuna meat from the lines of strong white membrane. Thus they need to cut their tuna better. I would have provided feedback but there is no contact information and I don't want to ruin their Twitter feed with a nasty photo.
  18. @Deac my quote is not working - but speaking of tickets, my wife "lost" two of her's and they gave her two more tickets, when she found her tickets in her pocket she returned the extra - it was very nice they were willing to replace the "lost" tickets considering how ripe for abuse that could be.
  19. This was a good event, tons of cheese to taste. It truly was all you could eat cheese and the volume of people cleared out within an hour as people had their fill and moved on.
  20. I'd guess most members didn't see the post in time. I didn't see a tweet on it. I don't know how many members follow you on twitter but that might have triggered a few people to notice the thread. I don't know how often more active members monitor the event thread, but generally its fairly slow so I glance at it on a few times per week. Motioning a nearby metro station (if any) might have helped people decide if they wanted to take you up on the offer.
