bookluvingbabe
Has anyone tried it?http://www.shebarockville.com/There is a $15 for $30 on DealChicken today and I'm very tempted. I've been craving Ethiopian for a while and I just don't find myself on U Street very often and though I work not for from Ethiopic, I'm never in when they are open...Thanks! DanielK
It's just ok. There's just a level of complexity missing compared to most of the Ethiopian places that I visit. It suffices in a pinch for a quick lunch, but I'd drive the extra 20 minutes to Silver Spring and go to Addis Ababa given the choice.
Lori Gardner
I ate there a few weeks ago. I am not the best judge because I am not such a fan of Ethiopian food- I really can't stand injera. But I had a vegetarian sampler and thought the flavors were good. I went with some colleagues who really enjoyed it. I agree that it's not a destination, but it's fine if you're in the mood for Ethiopian and you can't really lose with the deal you mention. My son and I ate there last night. We were looking to try it because it is closer to home than going (and parking) in Silver Spring. We made sure to try the Kifto (properly raw) and ordered one of the platters (Doro Tibs, Sheba Special Tibs, Minchet abish, Gomen with a side of house salad) as well as the Bedergan (eggplant wot). I found all of them to be equal to or superior to what I get at Addis Ababa. We also had a bottle of the mead (honey wine) which may have been a factor in our enjoyment. But the bottom line was, it is closer to home than any other Ethiopian place and well worth going to when i want my Ethiopian food fix.
pokeypie
I have gone numerous times to this restaurant, and my favorite thing on the menu there is the kitfo. I've tried the kitfo at Abay Market, which I know Don and Bourdain both like, and I actually like the kitfo at Sheba even more. I spoke with the owner the other day about their kitfo and she tells me that the cook is Gurage (kitfo is Gurage cuisine) and that they make their niter kibbeh by hand. I love the way that their kitfo is spiced (and you can taste the hints of spices like cardamon) and comes out in a bowl.
DonRocks
In doing some standard research, I went to Sheba's very nice-looking website, opened it, and immediately - within one second - found a blatant typo. Why don't people pay someone ten dollars to proofread things?
