  1. I'm actually seeking this out for a coworker who has friends coming into town. They aren't looking for fancy, just good food for dinner that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg. Given that they aren't winos I figure 40 bucks a person (tax and tip) should work for them. My friend said they may have a glass of wine each, or not at all. Any suggestions? many thanks.
  2. thanks - good suggestions for next time - my friend just wanted to go to Cafe Deluxe. it's ok. not special by a long shot.
  3. The only outdoor spot I can think of in Tyson's is the Cafe Deluxe next to Crate and Barrel (I hope I got the name right). are there any others? thanks...
  4. what's the deal with Wilmington? I have never been but friends are considering buying down there. is it a good beach vacation location?
  5. walk up to a local and tell them you fancy a Ruby, and where is the best place to get one? you will be delighted at what you find.
  6. MissCindy, we were down on the Riviera - Cannes - when 911 happened. spent the rest of the vacation dazed.
  7. if I remember, when I get back after Labor Day I will post here. there is a resto on the Waterfront that makes Pine Bark (seafood soup/stew with sherry- don't forget the sherry!) that is utter heaven and I don't even like seafood!
  8. oh my do those look good! Forgot about Hard Times. that sounds good too - basic, but good.
  9. how much total? (including VA tax and shipping...) I inquired into shipping wines home from Tuscany - I visited Poggio Antico in Montalcino - apparently a case shipped from Italy was over 200 bucks just for shipping charges. i.e. a case is well over 700 bucks... needless to say I just bought 3 bottles and carried them home. which apparently is impossible to do now. wonder how ticked off the wineries are at the terrorists.
  10. and how does one sign up to go?
  11. how about inviting a few people over half an hour early to enjoy the good bottle? pour everyone a glass, relax, then wait for the others to show up.
  12. thank you! many will scoff, but most of the times I've been down there we go to the same places each time... I wasn't aware how many restaurants were down there. (I fly, not eat!)
  13. thank you! that looks good. after I posted I did a little searching... I found "restaurant pages" (can you tell I am a newbie??) and here are a few that looked interesting, if this helps narrow it down. http://www.vermilionrestaurant.com/htdocs/dinner.html http://www.maithai.us/ http://www.cafesalsarestaurant.com/html/dinner_menu.html http://www.alalucia.com/index_files/Page595.htm http://www.southside815.com/menus.asp http://www.100king.com/menu/index.php ps. outdoor seating is a bonus too - especially if the nights remain as nice as this!
  14. A friend of mine is in town and we plan to meet tomorrow night in Old Town. It's been ages since I've been there. Any recos for a place that would be under 100 bucks for two people, assuming an appetizer, two mains, and a couple glasses of wine? (not a bottle as I have a loooooooong drive home). I know we can go to the Union Street Pub... hate Fishmarket... a few places I know about are rather spendy... thanks!
  15. great writeup AGM, nothing more to add. unless I think of something. I'd go back for the beets. If they changed the menu (I hear, monthly? I'd consider going back to give them one more chance but overall it was rather bland. you could tell it was quite good quality food, but there was something missing. maybe as simple as salt. not sure. the post-prandial sauterne was quite good. I noted to a friend of mine the next day... the three of us had gone to Corduroy a few weeks prior. The differences in the food could actually even be noted in the DECOR of either place. Viridian - spare, simple, clean, nothing to hide. Corduroy - richer, more texture. I'd go back to Corduroy again and again, in a heartbeat. the Q now is, AGM - did you review our night out at Notte Bianche? I hope not all of it.
