  1. isn't it next to Jaleo's? if so, it's ridiculously close. you barely have to go outdoors. any meet 'n greets there planned soon?
  2. the meal I had in Florence! pear and pecorino cheese ravioli - oh so delicate - and the celery and honey drizzled on crostone. oh my.
  3. the atmosphere is much better and I like the food - but I still miss Marie's. we lunched there once a week, back in the day.
  4. sounds like we have a few, cool! This week and next are not great (poor timing to start a thread) but the actual week of Xmas isn't bad - I'll be here. (i.e. the 26th etc. - not NY Eve wkd as I'm out again but during the week is fine).
  5. that would definitely be preferable to Bonefish and the like! the bummer about this area (only for now, hopefully) is that there are so darn many chains.
  6. I was just told by a few friends (Not Quick Draw and AGM - over dinner at Tallulah) that there is a new neighborhood dining meet-n-greet going on here. I don't believe anyone has anything started for my neck of the woods... how many folks live out in Loudoun County? Any interest in trying to meet sometime for dinner out in the wilds of Loudoun? I know the Xmas season is quite hectic so it may not be the best time to start up but I thought I'd ask...
  7. I would say Shar-coo-tree. (not really coo, more like cu but the french cu).
  8. I guess I need to try Palena, enough people have reco'd it! I'll write more later, I was kinda underwhelmed by RK. Not bad by a long shot but not uber inspiring either. I did have chestnut soup which I've never had before.
  9. My meal - a glass of Brunello, just perfect crostone with melted gorgonzola, honey, and celery as an appetizer, and, ravioli in a light cream sauce, filled with pecorino cheese and pear. The ravioli was delicate and different in appearance - it looked like a tiny package, tied up at the neck, rather than a square blob as you usually see here. The food just melted in my mouth. This was simple and utterly perfect. I went back again because I knew I wasn't going to find it here very easily! The enoteca was in the TimeOut guide to Florence.
  10. I gotta put in a good word for the Spice Market. I just got back Tuesday night, I met a friend there on Sunday for lunch. wow! try the chicken samosas and definitely have one (or three) ginger margaritas...
  11. had I known, I would have told you about my favorite meal in Italy (from my last trip). Coquinarius, an enoteca near the Duomo. just fabulous. and a glass of Brunello for only 10E!!
  12. I think we are going to try for RK. I would love to go to Komi but I think our chances at the last minute are slim. I'll try calling Komi at 6 PM when they open but I doubt we will get in. we wouldn't be able to sit down until 830 anyway... thank you for the help. I'll report back.
  13. I have been to Corduroy - excellent place.
  14. A friend is in town tonight. I've narrowed it to the above. I just tried to call Komi for a reservation, no answer. Which one would you pick and are walk-ins possible in any of them? Is a last minute res at Komi even possible?
  15. Hi, A friend is coming into town for a memorial tomorrow night at the University Club at 1135 16th street. I'm trying to think of good restaurants within walking distance and it occurred to me - is there a map, or other resource (preferably online) which shows restaurants by block or 'hood? This is such a basic question I feel dumb asking it, for all I know the Post food section does a decent job of that - but I thought I'd ask anyway. thanks.
  16. I'm so sorry, I completely forgot. how did it go last night?
  17. I will be in NYC for 3 days immediately after Thanksgiving (one day to shop/play, two others for a conference). I've been there numerous times but always want to try new things. Where would you suggest as a good lunch place (sit-down, not deli) in or near Soho (where I plan to shop) and could anyone recommend at least two good dinner places, not too expensive (say under 75 bucks per person). (I'll be there for two nights). The conference is near 54th St. and 6th Avenues so if there are lunch time gems... that info would be great too. I'm not a huge seafood eater, though for fabulous sushi I'd check it out. But not my fave. thank you so much!
  18. did anyone go? how did this go...
  19. The kebabs here are not bad, but, there used to be a little deli/Kabob House in Oakton that I would go to once a week. oh my - almost as good as Moby Dick. I don't recall the name, I just called it Kabob Heaven. It's gone now (it was in the Blockbuster plaza in Oakton, not too far from Giant).
  20. I'd be interested in BP on the 14th... If you go to Spices on the 21st I think I should be able to make it.
  21. Hi all I am going to dinner here tonight with a few friends. If you've been there - thoughts? What should I order, what to avoid, etc... thanks!
