Xochitl10 Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I've been tasked with finding decent-to-good, with a strong preference for good, pizza for delivery in Bethesda. Delivery area is just off of Old Georgetown Road and Greentree Road. The three places that I've specifically been asked to investigate are Mia's, Besta Pizza, M&N Pizza, and Vance's (Vace?) Italian Deli. I know Mia's gets love, but would appreciate thoughts on the others or any other recommendations people have. Thanks!

I had some very poor pizzas at Mia's recently - the crusts were extremely "bready," like a heavy dinner roll; the wine list was the saving grace (which in Montgomery County is a pretty big deal). I'd take pizza from Vace (*) in Cleveland Park over this, but have never been to the one in Bethesda. I haven't been to Stromboli since the late 1980s, but I remember it being something resembling Famous Luigi's - it should be considered if you're talking M&N (look at the picture of the pizza) or Besta Pizza ("we're pork free and always will be," they say, but they offer toppings of (beef?) sausage and (turkey?) ham) (*) Which reminds me: Marchone's might belong on the list of Oldest Restaurants (but I can't remember if they have table space).
darkstar965 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Haven't tried Vace Bethesda either but would think Pizzeria da Marco is probably Bethesda's best. Though Neapolitan style, they're 12" pies so big enough for sharing assuming they don't refuse to pre-slice them as some purist spots do. I'm also not sure they deliver; you'd have to check.
Arcturus Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Da Marco does not deliver, nor should they. Neapolitan-style pizze travel worse than ornery, gout-ridden mothers-in-law. I also don't think they are big enough to share, but I also have a tendency to eat like a grizzly bear. But you're right, they make some good stuff.

I can tell you from experience that Arcturus is right. I got a carryout pizza from Da Marco awhile back, and it was not good after a ten minute ride home. (And I quite like Da Marco pizza... in the restaurant.)
Heather Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Marchones does not have table space. At least, they didn't when I stopped in 3-4 months ago. I wouldn't get carryout from Mia's. Your best Bethesda option on that list is Vace, imo.

Not as good as their Federal Plaza location but probably the best for delivery in Behtesda. I agree with Heather, Mia is very good but not after being in a coffin for half hour.
ALB Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 It is a pizza of a different animal but I really like pizza at Corner Slice. NY style pizza. and they deliver.
MC Horoscope Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 (*) Which reminds me: Marchone's might belong on the list of Oldest Restaurants (but I can't remember if they have table space). Two tables only! Right off the meat and cheese counter behind the shelves of pastas. Easy to miss.
