plunk
Saw this last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. Now, though I enjoy cooking, I do not like baking and therefore know nothing about it. They kept discussing on the show how they would spend "days" creating certain cakes. It made me wonder: how do they keep the cake fresh? Wouldn't a cake be mighty stale after several days? Help me out here, bakers.
Heather
Very fresh cake can be hard to handle. Most layer cakes can be frozen and revived with simple syrup (plain or flavored), or booze, or both.

oliveDC
I liked the show too. It's just like Miami Ink (anyone watch that?) but with cake instead of tatoos... With this and Feasting on Asphalt, which I thought was the best thing the channel had done in a while, I have hope for the Food Network yet. I missed a show and saw him with a sling on his arm. Did he wipe out the bike?

According to an article I read he took a spill and broke his collar bone.
Heather
"You know I'm born to lose, and gambling's for fools; but that's the way I like it, baby, I don't want to live forever." I'm tempted to get something from this guy. Pastry chef and Lemmy fan. ETA: the Cat in the Hat cake is gorgeous.
Hannah
Y'know, looking at his stuff I bet he could do a Lemmy cake justice - complete with marzipan moles.
Dave Pressley
Duff used to be the baker at Olives a few years ago. I loved working with him and never had any idea how talented he was with cake artistry. Pretty good show!
oliveDC
The Suburban Tasteland blogger had a cake done by Duff more than a year ago - very cool pic at this link. And regarding my earlier Miami Ink comparison, the food and tattoo worlds further collide when Tony Bourdain gets some new ink tonight on the show, 10pm.
