  1. Chiles de Arbol are dried. They are usually found in most Central American Markets in this area. I know that Global Foods has them and probably most of the other large Korean Markets that cater to the Central American community.
  2. No,that was not discreet. Again everything is subjective and according to the graces which you have been taught.
  3. Unless you have humongous breasts, breastfeeding can be very discreet. I know this can be twisted around but this is a serious answer.
  4. I guess you could consider the infant an appendage. I would take her there if able to guarantee she wouldn't fuss, which is more than I could say for some adults. I am worn out on this subject, let's talk about loud obnoxious tables in restaurants. You know the types, they are so into themselves, they have no regards for anyone else in the place? Edited because my spacebar isn't working on my laptop.
  5. No, Bilrus. This is why the discussion started. It is about the fellas busted for staring. I would bring a baby to almost any restaurant as long as I could keep him/her quiet during the entire dinner. Breastfeeding would be a way to do that (keep them quiet). Newborns usually feed every 2 hours, so it really would not be practical to leave the baby at home. The majority of times you cannot even tell the baby is nursing. Is the problem with the nursing issue that someone may see a breast? If so then dresscodes should be enacted for all these fake boobs that are popping out of tight sweaters. I swear to you I have seen nipples popping out because the shirts have been so lowcut. (no comments from the peanut gallery please). This breastfeeding really should be a non-issue in today's society. I really don't understand what all the commotion is about.
  6. I don't mean to stupid, but can someone explain this to me? If Washingtonian, The Post, City Paper, went to the restaurant, ate anonymously, and took pictures, they wouldn't be able to publish them without her permission? As Waitman noted, she isn't known for her artistic abilities with food, so what copyright infringement is there? Does she even ladle the dressing on the iceburg herself? She is known for her intimidation and that is what I personally associate with her name. This does seem like it would be a perfect subject for it's own thread.
  7. I think all tips at a Japanese restaurant are pooled and the chef is tipped accordingly. If anyone knows any different please lemme know too!
  8. Wow some things are much clearer now. Hasn't Chef Greenwood always been a bit of an eccentric character? (Don I don't want to break any rules here so please delete this if you see fit) I really don't know much about her food, but I have heard/read a few stories about her little quirks. I never went to Buck's because of the previous stories about her, I am sure if someone digs enough they will find them on another website, or maybe a newspaper/magazine article. It seems like she is definately a back of the house person and shouldn't venture up front that often, as it costs her much business.
  9. So should we carry our laptops and PM you to be rescued off the side of the road? You know, no matter how tough and otherwise you try to come across at times, you really are a sweet puss in a bizarre kind of way.
  10. How sweet of you! She must have been thrilled, I know I would have been!
  11. What is screed? Does that mean you wrote something you had to delete so as to not cause more flaming responses? If so,I had to go back and rewrite my posts 3 x's before hitting the submit button as I did not want to do the same. On second thought I will just write what I thought. As long as the woman is nursing somewhat discreetly, how can anyone be offended? Breasts were meant for feeding babies not men! If someone can't look at that and not keep their mind out of the gutter, I would say they are either immature or just plain deprived! Should I edit this for screed? Edited to add, I found the definition for screed: A breach or rant; a breaking forth into a loud, shrill sound. 2. An harangue; a long tirade on any subject.
  12. I was a nursing mom too. With my first I would go hide in the back of my car and cover up with blankets, with my second and third, I also nursed in public. I don't think it bothers anyone except the young who just haven't been there yet!
  13. Whoops just noticed it was on a Saturday, but I still wouldn't chance the traffic in this area or TSA lines.
  14. I dined here this afternoon with la familia. We had Beef Jerky with Hot Sauce, Spicy Peppercorn Beef with Cilantro, Scallion Pancakes, Baby Wonton with Chili Oil Sauce, Spicy Beef Rolls, (I think)Fish Fillet with Diced Pepper, and General Kwan Spicy Beef. With the exception of General Kwan, everything was incredible. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at DR.com (and formerly EG) for contributing to my 20 lb weight gain this year! I will be on a hardcore diet starting tomorrow! So I will eat precariously thru your postings!
  15. I would not venture out to Tysons area or DC at that time. I drive this area and traffic can be horrendous. Even using the Dulles express road it may take over an hour to get back. The best bet is to go to Reston Town Center as suggested above. Remember he still has to go back through TSA security and that can take over an hour at times. I would also suggest Hama Sushi in Herndon. Going to Centreville for Sweetwater Tavern would not be a good idea either as you have the traffic situation in both directions there! I hate to put a damper on spots buit take it from someone who missed two flights to New York last week because of the traffic out here! And you would think I would know better!
  16. I enjoy Pearmund in Warrenton. He is (or was) the vintner for quite a few other of the better know Virginia wineries. His prices are lower than most of the other local wineries and the quality is decent. He just bought some land here in Gainesville (some historical property) and is planting more grapes this spring. If anyone gets the chance check him out. (he also has dinners at the vineyard a few times a year, haven't been to any though).
  17. Not to stray off topic too much, but I prefer the "barnyard smell" of a good Burgundy as opposed to a California Pinot also. Does anyone know of any California Pinots that come close to that or is it all in the "terroir". (Don, feel free to start a new thread if you find it fit, bisous).
  18. I also have a new little wine shop that opened up in my area (Cork and Fork Wine Shop). His prices aren't always the cheapest but I will buy from him to honor his commitment to my community.(plus it evens out when I get the casr discount every week ) He recommends wines when I walk in, but he hasn't quite learned how to read my tastes yet so I usually only buy what he has open to taste. He usually has at least 6 bottles of his specials open per week, some are great some are just not to my taste. Yet at the same time Joe Wiley suggested an Australian shiraz on another thread( I can't remember the name at this moment), but on his recommendation I bought it, and Joe was dead on! I had mentioned I liked a strong forceful shiraz, and he was able to interpret from his knowledge of the Peter Lehmann I liked that this one would be to my liking also.
  19. Shogun, that is funny! Dean, yes regifting is a scary thing. She admittedly regifted, as it was just a "little" hotess gift. I won't ever tell her what it is worth. as I hope sh regifts the same next year!
  20. I am 100% sure. Follow this link, the bottling and the wording is different. I spoke to her about it, and this is a regift, she gets a bottle every year from the corporation her husband works for. It comes with a couple of glasses also.I forgot the name of the glasses but they were amazing too. She kept those! SHe has an additional three bottles in her bar! Scotch
  21. I am also in the Robert Parker camp. I have found that I like his style of wine. I may not agree 100% of the time but he usually steers me in the right direction.I can't say that about everyone that works for The Wine Advocate, but Parker's taste I love. The ratings just help people. Even though you as the wine merchant may love the wine, taste is subjective, unless you have bottles open of everything you love and recommend for people to try, I would not go on your recommendation alone uness we had a long standing relationship and I was sure of your tastes. The different ratings help us make decisions, plain and simple. I too am tired of spending good money on bad wine.
  22. This bottle is most definately the Single and not the blended. I am not a scotch drinker but I tasted some at her house tonight and it is a very smooth taste. What a great gift for my hiusband! (beats anything I got him!)
  23. I know this is not an advice column, BUT what would you do? My friend and I agreed we would not exchange presents this year. We are having dinner at each others houses so we do bring hostess gifts (or host). Last night she came over and brought me a nice little gift and brought my husband a bottle of Sppringbank Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch aged 21 years. Her husband doesn't drink scotch, so I think this was a "regift". no problem there, but when I looked it up today on the internet, not for the price, but I had never heard of it, the cheapest I saw it for was $605.99! SO my dilemna, should I tell her what she has given us? Or just keep hush about it and share it with her and her family ( I am friends with all brothers and parents). I am leaning towards the keeping hush. All in all I think this is hilarious!
  24. It's my birthday too! We will be at Corduroys. Is theirs a special menu? Anyone know? Doesn't matter to me, as long as the regular menu is also available.
  25. That is a great list but the only one where you may be able to get out under 25 EUROS is Le Domaine de LIntillac, but mostly duck is served there so good luck. I will look up some Bistros later today or tomorrow and post them, though most I know are on the same list as Waitman. These average about 30-40 euros per person not including any drinks.
