  1. Joe, store them in the freezer, they should last longer. Over 2 years, but I still don't see how you will use 30 in that time.It is kind of like that Costco thing.
  2. I was also at Corduroy's last week, (for the first time), and spent a magical evening there. The wine was incredible in taste, value, and service. The Kombacha Squash soup was outstanding,as the Porcupine, Lobster salad, etc. The beef cheeks were the absolute BEST I have ever tasted, I am still dreaming about them. The Bread pudding to die for. The service was on par with any 3* in France.(I am serious here).I don't fawn about restaurants much but I absolutely loved this place, so were we at the same place Keith? Please give it another try. I find it exceptional! Damn it,my spacebar is not working right!
  3. Well I am sitting here with a child and wine. One out of two ain't bad..
  4. I don't suppose there could be a hint on the dates so I could bid for the days off?
  5. Sometimes the simplest things are best: Baby Greens salad (dressing was with fresh pressed walnut oil purchased in France last month and Balsamic purchased in Italy in September) Trio of Cheeses: Epoisse, Raw Milk Camembert, amd Saint Felicien Exceptional (made only during the winter months with a higher creme content). Homemade Fig Jam from France also. Toasted Whole Wheat Bread and a nice heavy Australian Shiraz. (I am so blessed to be able to travel so much even if it is work)
  6. My husband is a great guy, but there is one thing he absolutely cannot do, cook. I think that is so sweet. I am sure you will make it special.
  7. Yeah, right. So how long ago did you make the reservations? Most of the good ones are gone already.
  8. Nope, I don't think it was a joke. My blood boiled when I saw that. The funny part is the person saw nothing wrong with what he did!
  9. Even though I swore to myself (and others) I wouldn't comment further.... I am trying to be respectful of all opinions here, I still don't think any person should have to explain their disability if they have one. Some of these disabilitties may be almost impossible for the untrained to detect. Eventually I am sure there will be a special sticker or whatnot that identifies that the Segway is being used for medical purposes, but until then, we will just have to accept and be sensitive to the possibility that there is a medical reason for the use of a Segway.
  10. I know that there would be difficulty with both, standing and walking, but maybe bearable difficulties. I would just think that there would be the possibility of someone using it for that reason.
  11. We have a house in the OBX which we go to usually during off season. We went this past weekend and my favorite restaurant was closed for renovations. The Blue Point Bar and Grill. This place could compete with alot of the restaurants here in DC. Check it out hereBlue Point I also noticed that a bunch of new places have opened. Did anyone go this past summer? Any reviews on the new places? Thanks, I am going back in a few weeks to work on the house.
  12. I am just playing whomever's advocate here,but..... As mentioned above there was another or maybe the same gentleman who had a Segway and had some problem with mobility. I know quite a few older people who have problems walking because of hip and back problems, yet they can stand easily as long as they have some sort of support. As a disabled person given the choice between a motorized cart or a Segway, I would definately choose the Segway. It may just be their way of living with their disability and keeping a bit of pride. Just my two cents.
  13. It is right next door, not in the same parking lot but the next block after it if you are coming from 123. Across from the kabob place and caddy corner to mcdonalds and Angeliques? pizza. SuperH is great isn't it? (different thread, I know)
  14. Really good and cheap, Dolce Vita in Fairfax City across from Paul VI HS. Owned by two Italians Joe and Ricardo, run by them and their families. Excellant winelist. Ask Joe what's not on the list but be sure to ask him the price too, or youmay not make your budget.
  15. Some guy in Washingtonian wrote up a list on the best value this month , if you want to check that out. My vote would be for Corduroy's, some incredible bargains on there! And if you venture out into Virginia, Tallula and Evening Star Cafe.
  16. I roasted my chickens last night. I also had uneven browning, probably due to the high sugar content. I used one recipe of brine for double the amount of chicken. I bought the organic free range chickens at Eastern Market! My family's opinion? Theythought it was moist, crispy and delicious! My opinion? YUCK! I like chicken to taste like chicken! This brine masked any chicken taste! Too much going on. Unfortuantey since they all loved it, I will probably make it again.
  17. Kevin, Can I go to your house and use your vacmaster? I just bought a waterbath off Ebay. I will get it next week probably. My first experiment will probably be with some sort of braised beef shortribs. If you don't see me post after the 2nd of February, please come looking for bodies at my house! PM me for my address!
  18. Jake and Joe Riley, I agree with JoeH on this. When you are going for price, I would rather shop on the internet and save some money. I don't care whom they have working at the store. I appreciate their ratings on their website. If I am trying new things I am not familiar with, it is great to know that you like a certain persons style and ratings. Ex: I love Parkers' bold in your face taste, I still haven't found too much of Tanzer I like. There is another thread here in which we also discussed this. I still patronize my local wineshop (quite a bit), but it saves alot of time and travel not having to go into town from shop to shop to get the variety this and other websites offer
  19. Even though they didn't have the tomato tart, the chef's signature squash tart was delicious! It was really a wonderfully paced meal (it being RW and all) but the company was even more wonderful! I agree with Ferhat though, I could eat their tomato tart 24/7!
  20. Before I ever came on EG or Dr.com, I used to wonder who made the decisions at Washingtonian reviews, since they were so off base. Even my husband who would be happy with hambuger helper felt the same way. I feel sorry for Mr. Head as he obviously feels overlooked, but as with any industry you need to keep abreast of what's new and exciting, especially with food! I still can't fathom how Dungrats remained on that list so many years!
  21. I wish I could blame it on that, but I can't. At least not tonight.
  22. Okay my brine is cooling down at this moment. I added the rosemary back, in addtion to green cardamon, I added black cardamon also. I added mustard seeds back and candied ginger as I didn't have any regular ginger. The only problem is I have no Palena chicken to compare it to, so I am going there next week to compare theirs to mine! Edited to correct spelling and ponder, is it me or does everyone's spelling go down the drain as they get older?
  23. Okay, I have never had Palena's chicken but I am intrigued. I am off to the store to buy a couple of chickens and the rest of the ingredients. Do you buy a roasting chicken or a couple of good sizes regular chickens. I will be going to Trader Joes in Centreville for them. I will be doing this over the weekend in North Carolina, internet is sketchy there, so my question is on the baking part. On a convection oven wouldn't you just leave the temperature levels constant, albeit slower, and then at the end blast it if you need a cripier skin?
  24. South Florida Strawberries! They grow during the entire winter and spring!
  25. I tried sending Rissa a message, her box is full! Either that or she has blocked all PM's.
