  1. Please PM me if you have any questions at all! From experience, Chef Anda makes each of these dinners well worth the price, and the wine keeps flowing until we're done (or they run out of bottles - whichever comes first).
  2. I actually get to show up for one of these! Schedule's clear & the workday is done - see you soon!
  3. God bless the great state of Texas for producing some of the most amazing BBQ brisket and sausage I've had privilege to eat in a VERY long time. The gorge fest at my parents' house last night was definitely worth the extra 25 pounds my dad had to lug back with him on the plane from Corpus Christi! By the way, for general knowledge, you can't bring dry ice on a plane with you, but if you "tip" the TSA agent $40, he'll let it through! (??????)
  4. A co-worker and I decided to break the post-weekend duldrums with a not-so-Lickity Split lunch at Eve today. What a way to indulge! I had the warm asparagus soup with the salad du jour, while the Dublinder went for a taste of home with the Irish BLT. If I had an inkling of an idea that soup was on the menu, I would have had my ass surgically attached to a bar stool long ago! The salad was unfortunately a huge let down after the creamy, verdant bowl of bright asparagus - today's salad was lobster, heart of palm and avocado on top of mixed greens and tomatoes with a tart vinaigrette. The BLT seemed to fulfill all the basic needs of a filling sandwich (the housemade chips looked just out of the fryer - yum grease!). The true indulgence came with my dining partner's second menu choice - the apple fritters. Served with warm caramel sauce, the fresh fritters radiated a ripe apple aroma...crispy outer shells floured with the perfect combination of cinnamon and sugar...gooey/moist insides with chucks of succulant baked apple... I am most definitely hitting the pool for a double work out tomorrow morning!
  5. Anyone wish to join me tonight for a pint of New River Pale Ale from the Firkin at Vermilion? I know, all the way across the river... Keg taps at 6 PM.
  6. Vermilion's Firkin Thursday is once a month (for now)...mark calendars: Tomorrow night - New River Pale Ale June 23rd - DC Chophouse Summer Bock
  7. Thanks Jacques, HillValley and the rest for a spectacular day! I'm still in sugar shock... glad I stashed a sausage link (Monday morning breakfast will never be so good again!).
  8. Asian chicken salad marinating as we speak - cokes going in the cooler tomorrow morning - I'll also throw in some plastic cutlery. If I can bring anything else, let me know. Looking forward to putting faces to handles!
  9. I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who had an unspectacular culinary weekend! Friday night - cold pizza from Domino's and Doritos during a poker game - whole lot of wine (can't recall the label anymore) Saturday - cold cuts and an assortment of salad options at a family friends' send off. Highlight of the evening, my mother baked all the desserts - favorite chocolate rice krispie cookies - check, apple cake bites - check, turtle cheesecake bites - check. Worth the drive up to Germantown! Sunday - worked three tables at the Toast of Alexandria, so I grazed on Hard Times chili, Bombay Curry offerings and our own dishes (shrimp & grits from Evening Star Cafe, Grilled Bison Hanger Steak with Mozzarella and Sundried Tomato salad, and Stilton and Apricot Crostini with Vanilla Honey Drizzle). Finished the night off with a small salad with Aunt Annie's Goddess Dressing - YUM!
  10. I also have a cooler that I'll bring with some ice.
  11. I'll admit it...the question made me think twice or three times. "What's a plumper?" Couldn't REALLY mean what I thought it meant, could it?! Perhaps someone should open a restaurant with troughs instead of plates.
  12. I have a cold asian chicken salad that I can bring (unless that will clash with the middle eastern/med theme)...at the very least put me down for some plates/napkins (and +1 guest).
  13. I work with a caterer - if you're interested in more info, you can PM me.
  14. This Thursday is the first "First Thursday on the Avenue" of the season in Del Ray. This month's theme is the "Foods of Del Ray"...each restaurant and food shop on Mount Vernon will be offering samples from 6-9 PM. In a shameless plug for Planet Wine, we're doing a free wine tasting in the store... Think Cheesetique...Taqueria Poblano...Del Ray Creamery...Evening Star Cafe...Fireflies...and more! What better way for gringos to celebrate Cinco de Mayo?!
  15. Who knew they had all that other stuff on the menu?! While I encourage more people to believe that Cantler's is horrible (thereby clearing the driveway to the shack for me and those I drag out there), I would hate for you to go through life thinking your first visit was status quo, Al. Might want to try again in July...stick with soup and crabs...just what The Doctor ordered!
  16. Lazy Sundae on Wilson in Arlington...yum!
  17. I've never been this early in the season, but I LOVE Cantler's! To warm up a bit, start with the soups - they typically have three kinds. During one of my waits last year, a bartender suggested mixing the she-crab soup with the chowder...sounds gross, but YUM! Perhaps get one of each cup and play with your food. Enjoy!
  18. I wish I could join in tonight - unfortunately I have to make a trip to Super H for some last minute produce items for the family seder tomorrow night in Sterling. I'm in for future whims...
