Sister & Brother-in-Law are heading to Chicago this weekend for a quick getaway from parenthood. They're looking for a nice place to eat that 1) won't break the bank, and 2) doesn't require a "nice" outfit! Any suggestions of "hidden gem" type neighborhood places? Preferably near downtown or Wrigley Field. Thanks!

Vermilion's brunch is very tasty - they also offer a fun bloody mary bar where you can mix your own as well as offering a variety of mimosas and Illy coffee (yum). Their website is www.vermilionrestaurant.com.

Highlights from last week's dinner in the bar included the pork belly and the lobster. We also had the risotto which was fantastic, as well as a charcuterie plate to die for! If you have room, definitely get the fritters!!!

It is $1 each customer, and that's on top of a monthly fee. For some restaurants, it's just not worth the added expense which they could be using elsewhere on a splurg item. That said, our restaurants recently added OpenTable and love it! Definitely makes things more efficient on the restaurant's side as well.

They're giving Don his own talk show starring all of us!

Tallula's happy hour specials can be found on their website (4 to 7 PM daily) with affordable food options off the Amuse Yourself menu. The restaurant offers any of their 70 wines by the glass by the half glass (3 oz pours) for half the price listed on the menu at all times. Also, Vermilion has a pretty nice happy hour with a lounge menu if you're in Old Town some night. Their website is here.

Long metro ride, but most definitely accessbile is Han Ha Reum on the corner of Lee Highway and Gallows Road out in Merrifield. The Dunn Loring stop on the orange line is no more than a 1/4 mile away.

Strawberry Tsunami from Jamba Juice (with a bit of a boost thrown in for good measure). I am giving an informational interview tonight - must stay awake!!!

The Thursday Tastings are complimentary in the bar during happy hour - there's a tasting table set up in the front bar near the door (can't really miss it). Each week Planet Wine brings in a different wine distributor, importer or visiting winemaker to taste out some of their wines that appear on Tallula's menu (= sold in the onsite retail store)...with a few surprise bottles thrown in for fun. Tastings usually begin around 5:30 and last until at least 8:00 depending on the crowd. I'm working on the calendar page on the site - bear with me. If there's anything else you think we should add to the site, please PM me. I update it as frequently as possible. The menus for the next two wine dinners (16th and 30th) should be up next week, so check back.

I actually "cooked" this morning - big bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar to start the week off right.
