  1. Oh, you have NO idea just how important this is...
  2. Where can I find the best mochi in DC? Must be in DC, bonus points for somewhere vaguely between Union Station and Dupont Circle.
  3. How is this day different from any other day?
  4. Flying into FLL tonight and need a dinner rec (nothing fancy) between there and Delray. Thoughts? Then, 48 hours in Delray. Flakowitz's is the best option in that area?
  5. Boynton Beach Flakowitz's is still the top vote-getter in the Delray area? I'll be there for 48 hours this weekend and could use a food rec. Also, am in need of a dinner recommendation for somewhere between the FLL airport and Delray tonight. Nothing fancy, just decent.
  6. A friend of mine is spending Christmas in Sedona, and she asked me for restaurant recommendations. I've got nothing! Anyone have any thoughts for her? All levels of price and food are great ... Thanks!
  7. Just to add another simple use of brussels sprouts - last night i threw them, and potatoes, and sunchokes in a roasting pan, and roasted an Eco-friendly chicken on a rack above them. Delicious chicken-fatty roasted goodness!
  8. Does anyone know where I can get medovnik (apparently an eastern European honey cake) in DC or the DC area? I could resort to baking, but finding it at a restaurant or bakery would be nice
  9. What's good, what's not so good ... I haven't been in over two years so any tips would be helpful!
  10. Maple Old Fashioneds. Fashioned, preferably, by Adam Bernbach, or at a house party near the convention center.
  11. I'm looking for a book to buy someone who loves food - but from the perspective of growing one's own fruits and vegetables, buying the rest from farmers' markets, and eating seasonally. Could be a cookbook, could be about gardening, could be about local seasonal eating ... any recommendations? I found From Seed to Table by Janette Haase online, not sure if anyone has any thoughts on it ...
  12. Thanks, Rocks - this is perfect. I can't do Nora tonight but that is great to know about for another time... it sounds fantastic.
  13. Help! I've come down with my first cold of the season, and I want to pick up some soup on my way home from work tonight. Any thoughts of where to get good soup in the Dupont Circle area? I've already thought of the various Asian options, is there anything else?
  14. Odds are good we won't be sober either...
  15. I've got a friend in town who is leaving on a 3:30am bus to NY ... any thoughts of places that are open super late? Do we have any 24-hour spots in DC? (DC, not Va or Md...) Thanks!
  16. Heading to Milwaukee for work this week - probably staying in the Pfister. Any new dining recs? I've never been to Milwaukee, so any recs at all would be much appreciated.
  17. A good friend of mine lived in DC from 1994-1998, and didn't love it much. Since then, she's lived in Brooklyn, Madison, Kazakhstan, Siberia, and Russia. She's considering moving back to the States, and DC is on her shortlist (along with Chicago). She thinks she prefers Chicago ... but she might have more job opportunities in DC. She's in town for a bit, and I'm taking her out on the town twice to catch up - and to oh-so-subtly make the pitch for DC. So, where would you take her to sell her on how DC has changed over the last ten years? I was thinking Granville Moore's/H Street Country Club - although I've never been. Good idea? Better ideas? (FYI, we're women in our early 30s.)
  18. grilled Ecofriendly pork chop, with homemade peach chutney roasted Indian-spiced cauliflower (inspired by Monica Bhide's new cookbook!) new potatoes, with a cilantro-garlic cream sauteed green beans, with tamari and sesame 2000 Caymus Zinfandel (I tried to upload a photo, but it's over the size limits - and I'm not savvy enough to figure out how to make it smaller...)
  19. Perfect answer, except I don't think they'll be open when I'm leaving work...
  20. Where's the Marvelous Market at Cap South? I thought it was at Eastern Market...
  21. I know Eastern Market has plenty of choices -- but that would be going in the wrong direction and I'm pretty sure I can't fit a trip up there into the schedule. Although I may have to...
  22. Looking for a place to pick up picnic stuff (I'm thinking prosciutto, bread, prosecco - but am flexible) somewhere near Union Station or Capitol South. My brain is absolutely blanking. Help?
  23. For whatever it's worth, check this thread. [threads have been merged -ed.]
