We're going to a concert at Rams Head Live on a Monday (Power Plan in the Inner Harbor)....I'm not a fan of all the chain restaurants that populate the area - anyone have a suggestion of someplace that might be tasty on a Monday night for a couple of folks in jeans? --- [The following posts have been split into separate threads: Matthew's Pizza (frogprince) Pratt Street Ale House (Rovers2000) Phillips Seafood (daveo) Sullivan's Steakhouse (Tujague)]

In the spirit of the Mattaponi River and its tributaries (I'm curious to see if anyone will figure this one out), the folks from Volt are planning to open Aggio near the Inner Harbor in the Power Plant Development.   3. So we went to the one in Baltimore for lunch before a trip to Port Discovery. We also got the whole chicken family meal. Sides of black beans and fried rice. The chicken is definitely smaller than Crisp and Juicy (Arlington). When we get the whole chicken there, usually about a third of the chicken is left. At Chicken Rico, we went through the whole thing. The chicken, while flavorful, I found to be a bit too much on the salty side for me. The fried rice was much better when mixed with the black beans. It was good for what we needed at the time.... something kid-friendly and quick in the right location for us. I was a bit intrigued by a couple of the stirfry things on the menu. If we go to Port Discovery again, we'd certainly consider going back, but it's not a place we're ever going to crave, particulary when we live just a couple miles from Crisp and Juicy.
  4. Joe2 Pizza/Bar is located on the corner of North & Howard in the Mount Vernon section of Baltimore. It's been languishing on my Balto-visit list for a while, but went straight to the top when I read Warthog's post on Chowhound. It's one of many posts devoted to Joe's pizza, but this post confirmed that a lump of coal was in Joe's future [in a very, very good way]. As someone who watched Phat Pug go down in coal ash, I've been hopeful that someone with more pizza prowess would step up. Joe Edwardson Owner/Exec Chef purchased a new coal-fired pizza oven, had it delivered and is now waiting for final municipal clearance to install and fire it up. So, the pizza I had Tuesday was an example of what he's able to do now. I had a Margherita with a thin sourdough crust made with San Marzano tomatoes and fresh Moz. The crust was super-crispy with a hint of the sourdough and held up to the tomato sauce well given its crackery texture. Fresh Moz and basil grown in their rooftop herb garden were the "icing." I had a chance to talk with Joe and told him that this board, unlike Chowhound, welcomes pros posting about their restaurants. Hopefully, he'll join the conversation.
  5. I'm very much looking forward to a Japanese restaurant run by an actual Japanese chef in Baltimore. Most places are currently Korean or Chinese run sushi & roll places. Pubu, Japanese for "pub", located in the Four Seasons at Harbor East is scheduled to open next week. They are planning to serve izakaya style food from chef Michael Mina and chef Ken Tominga (Hana in Sonoma). I'm thinking of making it a dinner for Mother's Day weekend. I will certainly report back.
  6. Competing with 10,000 religion scholars for table space near the convention center this past Sunday, we settled on the bar at Sullivan's Steakhouse for drinks and a few bar entrees. I have no idea what the food is like in the rest of the place, or the chain at large--it wasn't suitable for our wallets or appetites--but with the Thursday and Sunday deal of $7 each for all happy hour items, we figured it was a reasonably safe bet. We both had well-made manhattans, served by our skilled bartender. Bob's burger was decent, served with respectable fries. My tavern sliced steak with a light mushroom sauce was lean, and while cooked past the medium-rare I requested, an extraordinary bargain. For two drinks each, an appetizer and two entrees, we got out for just over $60 with tip. Not a destination by any means, but you can do a lot worse than this for a lot more money in that area.
  7. Maybe Pratt Street Ale house? Granted, the beers from Olivers are really the draw here but I've had some salads / burgers and been satisfied. It's right across from the convention center, so it tends to be my go to when I head up to Camden Yards or Inner Harbor.
