  1. Guys and gals, thank you so much for all your recommendations. I will let the Mrs. make the final decision. Michael.
  2. Sitting at the bar is wonderful, jut not for this occasion as we want something more private. They have reservations available but the Mrs. sort of snubbed it.
  3. Thanks, Jonathan. Looks like the Oval Room and Osteria Morini have openings for Saturday. Just need to bounce these with the Mrs and see what she says.
  4. Thanks, Dave. They have a 9pm available, but it is an hour drive from us Have not, but nothing available for Saturday night . I will try calling them. P.S. Nada for Saturday at Corduroy.
  5. Nothing other than 5PM dinner available P.S. Thank you for the Sisters Thai recommendation.
  6. Could be anything really (French, American, etc..), but a steakhouse is the "last" resort. Thanks!
  7. Dear members, I need your most valuable assistance. This Saturday, May 9,will be exactly one year since the Mrs. and I relocated to D.C. from sunny Florida. Since this was the right decision personally and financially, we would like to celebrate and she wants to dress up a bit (me, not so much but I have no choice ). I know this is somewhat of a late notice, but I am looking to book a nice place for dinner where we can both enjoy a good meal. We usually frequent ethnic and "hole in a wall" places, but would prefer something more upscale (DC or VA) this time around ($200 budget for food, give or take). Apologies for a short notice, but your suggestions would be highly appreciated. Michael.
  8. I chuckled at this. My wife gets her mani/pedi there and always tells me that we should try the lounge out. I keep saying "one of these days" but may have to come sooner rather than later...
  9. Jonathan, This was sweetened condensed milk custard topped with soft and crunchy meringue and passion fruit. You got it. The food overall was fine, but nothing really stood out; that's my general attitude towards Andres' cuisine, although I have yet to try Minibar.
  10. Bati Build America Plaza 3815 S George Mason Dr Falls Church, VA 22041 (703) 379-1799 Our "go to" place for Ethiopian food. Very flavorful and inexpensive. The lamb tibs are amazing! The only downside: they are located inside a very busy plaza with other Ethiopian restaurants/shops, so parking is often an issue.
  11. The Navy Yard location is a walking distance away, so why not check it out?! We did last week (Wednesday night, I think). The space is large and we were quickly seated without a reservation. The service was efficient and generally pleasant. Ordered the bulgogi sliders and a Japanese IPA (sorry, forgot the name) to start. The beef was on a dry side but the beer had bright floral and citrus notes. Followed up with a small combo of wings/drums with half and half sauce (spicy/soy garlic). The chicken came out piping hot and was very crispy. The sauces were tasty but more "kick" was desired. Overall, quite tasty, but as dcandohio noted above, I prefer the good ol' US of A "naked" chicken wings with a spicier sauce to this any day.
  12. Hello all, just joined yesterday. Introduced myself in the appropriate thread. Michael.
  13. Hello everyone, I am Michael. Mrs. and I moved to DC almost a year ago from Florida for work; our careers were more important than the sunshine. Love all types of food, except for bland. Some of our favorite DC (area) restaurants are: Soi 38, Thip Khao, Bati, Salt & Pepper Grill, La Mexicana Bakery & Taqueria, Sushi Taro, Afghan Kabob House, Mari Vanna, Bankgok Golden, Mandu, Taco Bamba, Hong Kong Palace, Kaz Sushi... Look forward to discovering great places, chatting and meeting with other food enthusiasts in the area.
