We got two recipes from her today. I made the one for me, will make my wife’s tomorrow probably. But I loved, loved loved mine. Complex but straightforward to put together. The complexity came from adding cinnamon smoke to my glass ahead of time which I never would have thought of. The cocktail combined mezcal, amaro, sweet vermouth and sherry and I would order this over and over again in a bar. She nailed it.

Tweaked, what did you wind up getting? This sounds like a lot of fun, we just sent in a request for two recipes. Can't wait to see what she produces. My wife and I have *very* different tastes in cocktails.

Beautiful. We got oysters as part of our CSA that last two weeks, and I enjoyed them more than I thought I would. Had never shucked oysters before but the effort is worthwhile!

Here is about $90 of sushi from Nama Sushi that we got tonight. It was very good. It’s the $30 sushi assortment plus a variety of a la carte nigiri and rolls. I appreciated them having a decent though perhaps not decadent variety on offer, though these are not decadent times.

Thip Khao reopens today. Looks like you have to order by 3 PM for same day pick up, but you can order days in advance as well.

I'm craving good sushi. Has anyone had any luck with takeout/delivery options? Our neighbors got pickup from Sushi Ogawa the other day. This is the $90 "Sushi and Rolls Assortment" on their take out menu. They said it was good and the fish looks nice, but it's too bad there's not more variety. Chalk it up to supply chain issues I guess? Or people just wanting the basics in the current circumstances?

Ha! We randomly got this tonight, but I didn’t see your post until now. Agree with your assessment 100%. I’ll note that pickup is also an option, which is what we did, and that was quick and easy.

I ordered from fishwife and Harvey’s via Mercato a couple of weeks ago. At the end of the day it worked out fine but it was kind of strange that mercato treated it as two different orders and they arrived on different days. I don’t know if that’s changed at all since then. Quality of what was delivered was great as expected.

They deliver, too (maybe limited area?). We got a delivery from them today, exactly at the time we specified last weekend when we put the order in.

It is effective tomorrow.

This is what was in the gold box this morning from Spring Valley, to give you a sense of how much to expect. Anyone have any good sweet potato recipes for someone who doesn’t like sweet potatoes? 😬

Any current CSA recommendations, particularly for delivery into DC? Ideally looking for a mixture of produce (including fruit) with dairy and meat. Farmbus looks pretty good (though you have to go to Eastern Market to pick it up each week). What else are people doing (or looking into)?

Last week I got a case of random wines selected (and delivered) by Ace Beverage. Have enjoyed them all so far. Tonight's is a red Burgundy that I've already consumed way more than intended...delicious. Giraudon Bourgogne Chitry imported by Wine Traditions.

What did your friend say about the All Purpose CSA? I called the Shaw location this afternoon about them and they said they sold out within 30 minutes. Apparently they’re going to do it again Friday.

Which location was this? Is this delivery menu online somewhere?

Here in DC we’ve done Chiko (twice), All Purpose, and Little Serow (all great) and the fried chicken bucket from Cork (disappointing). The kids also insisted on Dominos (*) one night. Might be a good time to join a CSA. There are a number of booze deliver options available...I opted to go with Ace Beverage and it was great-my order was delivered at no charge the next day, left on my front steps as I requested. For restaurant takeout here’s a list of options from around the area (not sure how up to date they are keeping it). https://www.diningatadistance.com/washington-dc final tip: if you’re ordering delivery from Whole Foods via the Amazon app you’ve probably seen it’s hard to find a delivery window. They seem to open new windows up at midnight, so put your order in, and then go to your cart right at midnight and you should see a few more windows you can choose from a few days out.

Bingo! 😀 We’ve gotten delivery from there more than any other place during this thing. It’s always been fantastic. I can’t get enough of those cumin lamb noodles.

This idea assumes that the number of deaths the virus causes is a simple function of how many people get it. This sounds reasonable but it is, counterintuitively, *not true*. The death rate is a function of how many people get it *and* over what period of time. Without the lockdowns you get spikes in cases and spikes in cases mean sick people die because they get denied care (eg rationed ventilators) that could otherwise save them. The lockdowns will save lives over the course of the disease, they don’t just push deaths down the road.
