  1. Dear Criminally Underappreciated Dining Scene of Philly, Congradulations! Love, The Criminally Underappreciated Dining Scene of DC
  2. Yeah...the thing about that is.... Signed, J. Albert Samuelson (Alrightalrightalright...fine! I'll do it again.)
  3. Hopefully they're doing more than just that. I didn't give them my real number the first time, and unless they're keeping track by IP (like most polls), it won't be so hard to do it again!
  4. Oh, burned... Alright, maybe not 'burned'. Sure Philly chef deserved it and all. Still burned, though. We now return you to The New York City Show, already in progress.
  5. Why do they want your phone number?
  6. I'm relatively sure we're allowed to name other forums by name here.
  7. If you start your reply on the same line as '/quote', you get yet another line savings, thus!
  8. Oh man, forgot about those! Yeah, they're good. Have to find out what kind of potato they are made out. They're kind of sweet.
  9. Yeah, that sounds pretty cool. I have to hand it to Chef Jose and his beverage people: they have good 'bar gimmicks' that actually add to the drink, rather than just be for novelty's sake. See also: salt air.
  10. Maybe Sequoia or [The Restaurant Next To Sequoia] on the Georgetown waterfront? I don't know if it's officially allowed or not, but it seems plausable: outdoor seating, outdoor bar, relatively informal (if a bit Yuppie). I don't see why it would be that big a deal if you sat along the railing on the edge of the seating area and boardwalk. I mean, I could see why they wouldn't allow it, but it might be someplace to look.
  11. National's Special: $5.50 (Discounted jumbo soda: $0.95 w/ combo) Burger, Southwestern or otherwise, single: $3.80 (With three or four that are $4.20) Those are take-out prices; I'm pretty sure it's 10% more upstairs (also a new development).
  12. The 'Robert', If My Memory Serves Me Correctly Number Seventeen, I believe. A fine burger indeed.
  13. I am a free thinker! I am an individual! I am not a grouper! ...oh wait, I guess I am....nevermind.
  14. See? This is why I keep another tab open and check on new threads when I'm writing stuff sometimes. Here's the new topic I was working on up until a minute ago: Topic heading: The Best Foo In DC Best foo. Not Pho. Not Food. There's a lot of great stuff in the DC area, but we're looking for naught but the best in this thread! If you have gone somewhere, anywhere, and had something (Again, anything) that has made you sit back with a look of beatific serenity and exclaim "This thing which I have just eaten may well be the very best example of it's particular kind that I have ever eaten in the Washington, DC area" we want to hear about it here. So let's have at it! Where in DC can you find the very best hot dog, or steak, or Martini, or fois gras, or non-specific curry, or pizza, or creme caramel, or miniburger, or linguini with clams, or or shrimp toast, or eel, or steak again, or whimsically carved garnish, or SPAM-SPAM-SPAM-egg-sausage-baked-beans-and-SPAM, or seasonally appropriate pureed soup, or goose, or pot-au-foo, or ten cent Buffalo wing Thursdays, or twice-baked potato?* .....or perhaps even something that hasn't even been conceived of yet. I know, I'm a little scared, too. But consider the alternative! Through the convergance of the very finest that Washington and the surrounding area has to offer, this thread will grow and become strong, a wellspring of pointers to deliciousness, untill it someday rises up and conquers us all. With Apologies, Matt *Exclusion of a particular foodstuff from this list is not meant to be construed as rendering that foodstuff item ineligible for discussion and debate in this thread. _________________ Alright, maybe I was freaking out a little there. I'm better now.
  15. Exactly. We're probably missing a lot of great burgers [or other such fare] that way. Though in the interest of full disclosure, the burger was what I had on my FIRST trip to Palena, based on it's reputation.
  16. ....oy. I dunno....I hear good things about Les Halles, but I've never had. I'm going to say 'Breadline', off the top of my head. Firefly was pretty good, Circle Bistro was pretty good. The fry plate at Palena! We need categories of awards. "Best fries on a plate", "Best fries in a paper cone on a metal stand", "Best fries that come with a non-tomato-based dip".
  17. Hm...multi-hop, huh? I could do Circle Bistro to Firefly, but I don't think I'll make it all the way to Palena. Friday will be Happy Hour, but NEXT Friday will be Happier Hour, ifyouknowhatImean (The rest of the week will be "Sort Of Happy But Low Key/Paying Close Attention To The 'Cheap Eats' Thread" Hour).
  18. Oh yeah, absolutely still there, and still pretty good! That is to say, it's as good as it was when I moved here a few years ago. Prices have slowly ticked upwards, though, but I suppose that's bound to happen. howEVER: They have recently moved away from peanut oil to cook the fries. I was just there the other day, actually. Was going to get a Southwestern, but instead opted for the "National's Special": a big quarter pound hot dog topped with BBQ (I just sez the other day, "Shogun", I sez, "More things need to be topped with BBQ!" ), with regular fries and a little bag of peanuts! Also got a deal on a large soda if you get it with the combo. Forget offhand how much it was, but it was a pretty good deal!
  19. Hey Nadya, where's Sign of the Whale again? I think this is going to be a fairly short contest.
  20. You'll hear none of that from me! I usually get the "Coffee Lovers" combo, in a cone bowl.
  21. I'd be over there for bourbon if I weren't stuck at work until 7.
