  1. I'm actually pretty set for cookware, I guess it's more baking, utensils and specialty stuff I'm after. Time to check out the online sources. The Little Bitts Shop in Wheaton is great for baking but not much else - I went this last weekend and got sheet gelatin, coarse sanding sugar, and a pan that will make a ball-shaped cake. Thanks for the Le Creuset tip. We only have a dutch oven and it would be nice to get a gratin dish.
  2. Do you hit a local store, shop online, or...? I need half-sheet pans, precut parchment liners, ring molds in various sizes, and a few other things. Sur La Table, Williams-Sonoma & etc. are OK, if expensive, but I want the real stuff.
  3. Oh good! Not like it mattered to me - I'd rather go on a picnic than to brunch somewhere anyway. I do have plans the night of the 15th but the picnic should be over by then. Wait, that means I have one less week to come up with gifts for my mom and mother-in-law.
  4. Either day works for us. If you need party-planning practice, Ian's birthday party is next Saturday and I have done jack except send the invitations.
  5. It's the kind of white you can pop an ice cube in and not feel like you're violating its character.
  6. I just popped the (synthetic) cork on a bottle of this. Just the thing for a night of refereeing the kid's fights.
  7. I liked last week's column, although I had worked out the premise (drink wine from the region the cheese comes from) about 10 years ago.
  8. No, just little pretentious French tumblers from Williams-Sonoma. But we have some Dragon Tales jelly jars for the kids. That's a filthy lie.
  9. I intend to stick around eGullet too. It's still my go-to site for cooking. That said, there are a lot of users there that would enjoy it here too. We're just talking about how to get the word out without breaking the rules over there.
  10. Is anyone interested in sampling some Steak Tartare at BdC on Saturday afternoon?
  11. Oh that's too bad. I loved Cashion's when we lived closer, but I agree with your assessment of "not a destination restaurant" - for us because of the parking in Adam's Morgan. Not worth the hassle when there are plenty of other good and easier to get to places in town. Yikes. Better not come to our house then. That's all I use anymore.
  12. Why, with a rhubarb-pineapple upside down cake, of course. My grandmother's recipe. I saw rhubarb at the grocery store on monday and was looking for an excuse to buy some.
  13. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm definitely head on.
  14. He bugs the shit out of me, but then I have a low tolerance for hippies. Never been to Carraba's. I would never take my kids to Olive Garden. The lowest we will stoop is Macaroni Grill or Maggianos. Carraba's sounds about on par with those two.
  15. On second thought, maybe I'll stay home tonight.
  16. That sounds great. Do they have a mailing list for events? Edit: D'oh. Of course they do - you just have to look at the website.
  17. Perhaps I'll join you - I could use a glass or two of wine. Scott leaves tomorrow on a 3-day business trip and I will have the kids all to myself.
