  1. Most likely he doesn't feel there are many issues, the place was packed. I don't think his aim is to be the best 'pizza' restaurant in a certain style, rather the plan is to fill a certain kind of image of a food and promote a life style brand as they say. For example, I feel the same way about Kushi Izakaya, though the quality there is much better. Both places are aiming towards an image of a particular kind of food and the overall experience of eating there. Frankly, so far they both are very successful in their intention. It's not my thing, but that's ok.
  2. My bad. I think I confused the egg or chicken liver price for the whole chicken per pound price. This is an interesting change in the local farming market. Last time, I bought chickens in that amount was for Christmas family&friends dinner. Got it from the Lancaster Dutch Market in Germantown, MD. Can't remember the cost per pound, but remember it being pretty fresh and not as expensive as anticipated.
  3. Had a slice of regular cheese pizza last night. Crust and cheese were thick and had no flavor. The few pieces of basil leaves seemed to be added afterward it was warmed up. I'd say it left no impression on me other than reminding me of pizza in high school. I did enjoy the cream soda, lightly sweet and tasty. The place is pretty inside and it kind of has a retro charm to it evoking memories of black and white photographs of NY style diners and pizza places from the 1940s and 50s. However with the loud music and talking going on inside, it was hard to place an order. In the area, I would go Seventh Hill, Matchbox, and then We, the Pizza.
  4. Man, I need an editor for my postings! This was not as bad as an email sent out to 500 people today. Somehow the font on my name was 48 size compared to the rest of the normal 12 size text.
  5. Visited there recently and I think it's a welcome addition to the city. When I heard about this place, I was hoping for a young, hip late at night food place like Yakitori Taisho at St. Mark's place or a upscale older brother jazzed place like Yakitori Totto in NYC. It's not either of those places, nor like places in Japan. Rather Kushi Izakaya is a weird fusion of many kinds of Japanese restaurants all rolled into one.
  6. Look forward to trying the Holder Hill. Perhaps if we ever make it to Town House in Chilhowie, we'll stop at Glen Manor for a tasting since it's on the way down south.
  7. On Friday at lunch time, we did our tasting at the bar. We actually were the first ones there that day, but by the time we finished there were about 10 more people. Since it was by first time at Hillborough, have no other reference point, but it was enjoyable experience. I did note the large tasting room with tables walking to the bathroom and wondered about it being used with large tour buses visiting. Back to this wine, look forward to trying it in the future.
  8. Thanks for the information on that wine, JoeH. Below is the recap from our stop from the "Help Needed" sub-forum. --- The next day we stopped at Hillsborough Vineyard and had their sample flight of 8 wines. Joe H was right the 2006 Bloodstone is a very good wine and arguably my favorite VA wine so far. While, it's still young wine compared to my favorite Italians, it has a weight that communicates a complexity that is surprising. As for the $28 price point, feel it would be better at $22, however I'm not conversant in the price points of local vines enough. Visiting the vineyard is a must, my GF didn't want to leave as we sat on the patio eating the local old German Wiesse Kase goat cheese and drinking their Serafina Rose wine. I think that area of VA really is an enjoyable day trip from the DC metro area and the wines and vineyards will be great in an another decade probably able to compete at the world level. 9. When I was out in Loudon County, Chicama Run Farm was recommended for fresh chickens. Haven't tried it yet, but website looks good and prices are more reasonable.
  10. We ended up at Patowmack Farm for dinner and stayed at a B&B nearby. "Thursdays at the Farm" was small plates which as the website says were pretty reasonably priced. We pretty much had every plate on the menu that night except for 2-3 meat ones and all were very tasty except for the Peach Gazpacho with baby corn and corn silk. Somehow that one just didn't execute well together. The glass of red wine I had was from Fabbioli Cellars was one that I didn't finish. My GF had lavender lemon infused cocktail that she enjoyed. Highlights were the little tomatoes from the Early Bird Tomoato Salad. The Broiled Peach with merry goat round cheese and fried bread. Very tasty. Also liked the Fried Squash Blossoms with basil pesto and preserved lemon. The Chocolate Layer Cake for dessert was a big hit! Especially with the oatmeal stout milkshake. Selection of Chef's local cheese was also excellent. All in all, with the scenery and view which was perfect that night, I would recommend the Farm on Thursday. 11. Glad to hear. We've been saving using some 50% coupons for a few months. Looking forward to the relaxation. Any recommendations on food there?
  12. We're actually going to Spa World this weekend! Spa is a good idea though. Still haven't found a B&B, (at this late date most places are booked up), but here's my research in case anyone else can use it in the future. Lauren Lodge Historic Harper's Ferry B&B Listings
  13. Yes, in my haste to reply perhaps created confusion they were connected in some business way. I wanted to communicate the idea of a small plate Indian restaurant like Oyamel would be a better dining experience. Actually I think a high volume place with lower prices like my suggestion would be a great new take on Indian restaurants and something that has not happened here in DC yet. As for the seafood at Rasika, I don't remember being too impressed. Most Indian restaurants have a hard time with seafood because the spices either are too bland or over power the fish. Goa-style seafood takes a bit of time to make correctly with the coconut/tamarind sauces can be fairly complex and layered, however to make it to order would difficult.
  14. Funny! GF mentioned that place last year for a dinner with some friends perhaps Labor Day weekend. I was just too drained from a few weekends to want to be outside at that point. Again, I sincerely appreciate the replies. Please continue!
  15. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Rasika, but it's a crowd favorite as they say. I liked the side dishes, however the main's leave a little to be desired for me. I would order many small dishes, kind of like visiting it's neighborhood sister restaurant, Oyamel. A few definite things to get: Palak Chaat. Order two orders at least. Definitely plan to try the mixed drinks, pretty damn good. Also, the fresh bread basket, is pretty tasty. Eggplant and lamb kebabs, too. Happy Anniversary!
  16. I think those are valid criticisms. The place I'l looking for is perhaps more casual and friendlier. I think driving outside the city and suburbs, it's important to find a vibrant place. Actually, I remember having a great dinner and breakfast near Big Sur in CA, 6 or 7 years ago. The breakfast especially was an incredibly fresh and the front of the restaurant was all this metal worked figures rusting in the sun. Does anyone know places along the Skyline Drive?
  17. I appreciate the responses. Thanks all! We could travel south to Charlottesville or southwest as well. It's my GF's birthday on Thursday and she decided to take the day off, has Friday off and so it's a last minute dash to find a nice place to take her. If there any in that direction, I would appreciate the tips!
  18. Looking for a casual dining experience at an Inn within a ~2 hour driving distance from NOVA. Would have liked to take the opportunity to visit Town House, however it's too far for a day trip. Anybody got a good suggestions for scenic locations perhaps along the WVA-VA border? Thanks in advance!
  19. Indo Pak Spices in Herndon sells Jamun Juice. Haven't looked for it at H-mart or Lotte, yet. If you find the fruit at more reasonable prices, please let me know. "Exotic Fruit of the Month" club is a little too expensive to order it from unfortunately.
  20. Interesting. He raves about the crust in his review and just last night when I had one of their pizzas, that was part I found the most bland. There was no char even! This was my second visit and I had enjoyed the first one again because the toppings were decent which was the same as last night. The next time I'm near Seventh Hill Pizza, I want to try the sandwiches, they did look interesting. I think the growth of restaurants in the neighborhood of Eastern Market is great, but if I'm driving and have a car, then I'd rather go to 2 Amys or RedRocks. The quality is significantly higher. Recently with all this talk of good pizza, it makes me want to go to Orso, the original Ledo's for the best 'b' movie/pie in the area, or even travel to get a oily skinny slice in NYC.
  21. It's too bad we can't, apparently, get them in this area. Try and find the juice, it's worth the effort especially cold.
  22. Missed this posting. Actually called their phone number and the message conveyed that they were open. Nope. Ended up at Seventh Hill Pizza. $12 for a margarita. Ok toppings, but crust bland. They had good traffic tonight, wonder how it will be once We, the Pizza opens.
  23. If you type in 'shopping jamun fruit' just in google search, this thread comes up at the first result.
  24. Yes, I googled it before posting, was just hoping one of the other Korean or Chinese grocery stores might carry it or that someone would have experience with it here locally. I buy the juice at Indian grocery stores and haven't seen it at any of the stores. Was looking to drink it without the added sugar especially if I ended up experimenting with alcohol. It's quite tasty especially in the summer heat. Highly recommend!
