Pretty much a tourist piece but not much about the wine. I hate the way Barboursville has commercialized that place. Memories of taking UVA coeds out there on my motorcycle to visit the ruins............

CF your point is well-taken. I don't want to see smoking taken out of bars (Stetsons, Irish Times, etc) clubs (Red, ESL) and cigar smoking centric places (Les Halles, de Coin). But, at the many places which are both restaurants AND bars it gets more tricky. Sadly legislators are probably not smart enough to craft a workable law in this regard.

So true Nadya. A bar is a place to do unhealthful things. Drink, smoke...gosh I bet some bartenders even sell drugs Bars are not restaurants, where non-smoking areas are a great idea. Bars make their money off drinking and if you think that having people smoke less will make them drink more? No way. Nadya, thanks for a lovely time at Bis last week. Now tell your bosses that any self-respecting French restaurant that does not allow cigar smoking? Quelle horreur!

I can tell you with the underground work, we have our electricity and water shut off regularly in Georgetown. In my opinion, Citronelle does not even derserve a mention in this regard, especially compared to the crap you dealt with at Zen.

Anything that can create such shock in the French wine community is worth viewing. We get so few movies about wine anyway. Also, I strongly agree with the director's anti-homoginization stance.

Mark, posting to the Tom chat again? Sommelier is Superb: I know you're totally on board about the sommelier at Citronelle, but i just wanted to share briefly. Everyone always seems to complain about service there. And although the waiters can be a bit crusty, we were there a few weeks ago, drinking not particularly expensive wine. The sommelier really made our meal fun and memorable. He visited several times (it WAS saturday night) and ended up making menu suggestions, even brought out our cheese plate to us with a special addition. Awesome time - due mainly to him Tom Sietsema: You hear that, Mr. Slater?

Not a fan and was shocked when Don wrote that. Living in the neighborhood and having great memories about the previous incarnation, I wanted to love it. Over priced and just not impressive. However, in that area with a rooftop deck a restaurant does not have to excel.
