  1. All worthy examples. But I am really not into cheese 'plates' where the cheese is pre-selected with a little salad, jam, etc. I much prefer a real cheese cart, similar to what you get in Europe with choices. Is that available in DC? Like this:
  2. Yes Quarterdeck is pretty good.
  3. I thought this was common knowledge, that Phillips and the other big outfits use SE Aisan crab? Was this really a revelation to anyone here? The packaging issue is a different one, which has some merit. You cannot call SE Asian crab 'Maryland'. Maybe 'Maryland Style'. Any crabbers on the list? I started crabbing in the Little Assawoman (not a joke) Bay near Bethany in the mid 1980s. A half dozen strings with chicken necks and about 3 hours of 'work' and a nice lunch for 2 could easily be caught. A few years later I moved up to about 3 crab pots which provided for a weekly feast. The last time I even attempted to crab was about 5 years ago and it was a miserable experience. Basically, the blue crabs are gone from this area. I assume the commercial boats get whatever is left. Look at the price of a bushel...crazy high. In my opinion, end of an era, sadly....
  4. Cream Suit? Tie? I am the limper, 5 10, brown hair, drunk......
  5. BdC after dinner. Anyone else going to be there?
  6. Are you going late Mark? Look for me then and we can share a drink. Who else is going to BdC and what time? I am not eating there this year. We are having fois gras and cheese my place then heading over around 11PM. Look for three solo guys, one tall dark and handsome, one limping around, and an impecciably dresses French/Cameronian.
  7. Soft shelled crabs stuffed with crab are great. My least favorite was the asian style duck. I love duck but it was not up to the par of the rest of the meal. Just pick any wine with 4 figures and you should do fine. Mark had a nice aged Burgundy that was not too expensive.
  8. I thought this was funny, about political bloggers (not you Jason): Blog Comic
  9. I agree. Yesterday I probably lectured him a bit on some historical aspects of his food, and his response was considerate and professional. The poster on Tom's chat did NOT criticize food bloggers in general but Jason in particular.
  10. Our friend DCFoodie got a spanking? Why? If you have a problem with any blogger, have the guts to tell them yourself!
  11. Nadya, here is a site my friend runs, you can use these with no problem. http://deephousepage.com/smilies.htm
  12. Yep, this is called bandwidth theft. I had no idea what it was until I read the rather lenghtly set of rules on Egullet. This also means "technically' that you are not supposed to post pictures from another website (here or anywhere else) without permission. If this is just a few images, email them to me and I can post on my website. As long as these are only used here at DR.
  13. can someone please point me towards their website so I can sign up?
  14. Ok, on honeymoon in Italy 2003 (Positano) we had a bottle recommended by the owner of a great local family place. Vestini Campagnano Pallagrellio Nero 2001. LOVED IT. Picked up a bottle a a local wine store. Does anyone know about this wine? Its from Campania which think is a really under-valued region in Italy. I know the Pallagrellio is the grape variety, perhaps originally from Greece. A nice strong, deep and complex wine (its been a while since I tried it). Ok, back in the US, I can find almost no mention of this on the net. Finally found online at Sam's Wine in Chicago and Italian Wine Merchant in NYC. The price shocked me $60 a bottle. I am not one to judge wine on its price, but $60 is not a cheap bottle. Ended up ordering 4 bottles for nostalgia sake. Anyone have this wine or know anything about it? From the NYT:
  15. Me too. Just no ripple in a brown bag, ok?
  16. If you think Les Halles is crowded, avoid BdC. A MADHOUSE for Bastille Day.
  17. The Georgetown location is so incredibly slow. 20 min+ waits a lunch. Ate there once I it really saddened me to see such a DC landmark (Pied de Couchon) turned into a burger joint.
  18. TIP ON THE NORMAL CHECK AMOUNT Thats a deal. Lab included??
  19. Anyone up for a Donrocks.com visit to Sushi Ko for lunch that week?
  20. Let me add San Marco in Adams Morgan as a restaurant that is rarely mentioned. Above average Italian, quiet and family run. Not to mention an amazing selection of grappa.
  21. They could always get married at Good Guys? I would say Gazuza is pretty loud and crowed. Being an expert on romance and bars, here are my ideas: Chi-Chas, couches are even better than booths ESL for happy hour, less attitude, couches Farenheit at the Georgetown Ritz is tres chic Wine bar at Bistro Lepic Round Robin at the Willard for old school DC Dragonfly is always fun but the sushi is only ok Good luck!
