  1. Went to Liberty to watch the US Canada Hockey game and most importantly get out of the house - having recently broken my leg it was the only place I could think nearby that has a couch, t.v., and good food. Split the burger and foie gras app - the burger was cooked a perfect medium rare (a compromise - I prefer rare, so I was glad it wasn't over done). The brulee component of the foie gras wasn't doing it for me, too sweet for my tastes, but I throughly enjoyed the seared foie gras. At the risk of inciting a riot from the Rockwellians with children, I have to bring up the fact that when we first arrived there was a young child's birthday party (3-5 year olds, at the oldest, in attendance) going on in the Lounge section next to the bar. While this may have been planned before the hockey game was known, I still question the idea of holding a young kid's birthday party, with 6 pint sized guests, downstairs next to the bar, especially considering the behavior I saw (i.e. jumping all over the couches like the lounge was a moon bounce, running around the bar, breaking a glass). There were several times I had to quickly move my broken leg to keep it from being knocked by one of the kids. I have no problem with children in restaurants - but this just seemed like a bad idea and a horrible accident waiting to happen.
  2. One thing she got right on that list is Motorino's. Had the brussel sprout pie two weeks ago; it was hands down the best pizza I have ever eaten in my life, and finally made me understand why ppl like Neapolitan style over NY. Somehow the crust was charred, pillowy, and chewy. Amazing. Oh and the toppings were real delicious too.
  3. This is a long overdue post about 11th Street's delicious brunch. We've been far too irregular customers over the past two years, but their savory waffle topped with poached eggs and herbed cream sauce (with your choice of mushrooms or sausage) is divine. The mushroom waffle is the bees knees. At $8, it's easily one of the best breakfast dishes in town - kind of wild considering that when you walk in on most Saturday or Sunday mornings, it is not uncommon to be the only table in the restaurant. Double bonus - mimosas are $1, and the wait staff has always been helpful and on top of their game. This morning, my gentleman caller surprised me at home with an 11th Street brunch. Found out later that the restaurant was happy to pack a waffle kit with eggs and sauce for at-home-assembly, and Mr. Fantastic enjoyed the wait with champagne at the bar. My only fear is that the current lackluster brunch crowd will mean the demise of my breakfast mushroom waffle (I don't like the sweet stuff). Not sure about the dinner or bar experience, but the place is worth checking out for leisurely breakfast grub.
  4. I received a call 4 hours before my RW reservations on Saturday night. The hostess said there would be delays in sitting all night and offered to reschedule the reservation for any time with the RW deal still available, only this time off of the FULL Hook menu. I took her up on the offer - its a nice gesture and I'm glad they were more proactive as the week went on. Although it wouldn't have hurt to call a day or two in advance, instead of only 4 hours.
