  5. Goldenticket, I just sent you the info for our volunteer coordinator. I spoke with her earlier today about getting a block set aside for that date. I just sent her another email, so I should know by tomorrow morning, if not sooner, about the 18th. Thank you, thank you all for doing this! I look forward to seeing you in the kitchen!

  13. I'm throwing my hat in the ring for DC Central Kitchen. We can pick them up from wherever! (full disclosure--I work for the catering division of DCCK and while my division won't be using the lambs, the division that feeds the homeless and provides food to others in need would certainly welcome the donation!) PM me and I will make this happen! Quick edit--I would also be on board to share for a DR party-lamb-roast extravaganza! Not at my place in SE, but I would be willing to do fabrication, marination and cooking. (Calling Drs. Ferment Everything, Dan Cole, Zora and Ol_Ironstomach for any and all support they can give...hell, throw Sthitch in there and make it a real party!)
  14. From 3-7 today, Fresh Start Catering (an employment project of DC Central Kitchen) will have a lemonade stand with free samples of Georgia Peach Lemonade and Blackberry Ice Tea at the Penn Quarter Market. Stop by and have some refreshment on this hot day!
  15. DC is seeking proposals for managing Eastern Market. Here are the details: Market Manager for Eastern Market Washington, DC The District of Columbia Office of Property Management is seeking a contractor to operate and manage Historic Eastern Market in Washington, DC. Originally constructed in 1873, Eastern Market is presently undergoing a $14 million rehabilitation. A temporary East Hall has been erected to allow market merchants to operate while construction proceeds. Eastern Market is a thriving food market. Fresh meats, baked goods, cheeses, and other foods are sold from indoor stalls, and fresh produce is sold outside beneath the covered sidewalk. Artisans and antiques dealers also sell their goods outside the market on weekends, making Eastern Market a popular stop for both locals, residents of the broader metropolitan area, and tourists. Art, music and theatrical performances are held in the North Hall, which will also be available for public and private events. The selected bidder or team should have demonstrated experience with the following: • Operating public markets, public event space, farmers’ markets, or other similar facilities. • Operating food markets • Staff management and supervision • Marketing, promotion, and special event development • Retail tenant recruitment and leasing • Strategic planning for nonprofit organizations • Financial management • Locally grown food suppliers and marketing • Locally produced arts and crafts sourcing and sales • Flea Market administration and management A Pre-Bid Conference will be held at Eastern Market on August 14, 2008, at 11:00AM. The full RFP package can be found online at www.opm.dc.gov/easternmarket. The deadline for submissions is September 16, 2008, at 2:00 PM.
  16. Hey Folks, DC is seeking proposals for the management position at Eastern Market. 17. While not a typo, "Chef-dusted Oysters" on a menu always makes me chuckle. Maybe it's just me....
  18. Tabard Inn --197? According to this http://www.tabardinn.com/UWarticle.pdf , Nora started here before opening her first restaurant.
  19. Banco, MM or RR? If it's the former, allow me to supply this image to supplement (ahem) courtesy of Wonkette.... Or, not. I was just informed that I could not upload this type of file. Rats. Go to Wonkette, search on Michelle Malkin Bikini. Proceed with aforementioned , uhm, er, whatever....
  20. I second all of the above. I worked with Miles at Sonoma (my L'Academie externship) and learned a lot from him, not just culinary skills but also leadership-restaurant management skills. I will be taking the trip across the river when Eventide is open!
  21. West End Bistro. Pig pies. Fish sliders. Battered and fried duck egg. Lamb. Mac & cheese w/ ham. I am a fan, oh sam I am, OMG. Will write more under the WEB topic as I am heading out to North Country NY (Canton, Canadian border) in the very early am.
  22. It's open! Hill's Kitchen has a great selection of cookware and accessories to suit all stripes and types of cooks. I ducked in tonight for about 6 minutes, so I can't give a full review. (I was supposed to be on the Metro to meet a friend, but I could not resist when I saw that it was open. Yes, I was late, but friend is also a cook, so she forgave me....) What I did see included saute pans, dutch ovens, spices, pastry accessories and more. They do have demo space for classes upstairs, but that will probably come later after they settle in a bit. I'm very glad about this--I now have a resource that's close to home rather than going across the river to VA when I'm in need of something. If you are going to Eastern Market, check this place out---they are located next to the FedExKinkos to your right as you come up at the Eastern Market Metro stop.
