And I'll change my previous salad to orzo salad with apricots, almonds and ginger oil. Sounds like we have enough desserts. Should I skip bringing the orange/almond oatmeal cookies? -
Joe, is that the new place next to Momo Taro? Pho sounds like just the thing for dinner tonight. Maybe we'll try Miss Saigon's version.

We have a winner.

There's our backyard (all the booze and music we want), but I doubt that everyone wants to schlep out to Rockville. -
I'll second the good review. The menu and wine list are interesting and reasonably priced, and with time I am sure it will be packed every night. I had the griddled calamari with olives and capers. The squid was perfectly fresh and creamy textured but the olives and capers (chopped as a sauce) slightly overwhelmed the delicate taste of the squid. My main was the fish and chips. The fish was very good but could have been a smaller portion, or at least cut into smaller pieces before frying. It was accompanied by good fries and very good cole slaw with a sweet & sour poppy seed dressing. Looking forward to returning once they have booze and desserts. The highlights at Firefly were the excellent Roquefort and Pont l'Eveque, and a delicious bourbon cocktail.

I may join you. Let me see if Mr Shorter will be home for kid duty. He'll be home, so I will see you at 6.

Recently posted in another forum... I had dinner at the Clyde's at Tower Oaks Lodge (not my choice, I had voted for Black Market ) last night with a bunch of moms from Emma's school. The calamari was competent, my salad was a little underdressed but good, my main dish... might have been the worst meal I've had so far this year, and that includes frozen pizza. Seared Scallops with pancetta & asparagus, over mashed potatoes sounded OK but the execution left much to be desired. Diced asparagus mixed with too much salty bacon was tossed with what was obviously frozen peas 'n' carrots and dumped, with its liquid around indifferent mashed potatoes. It was topped with a generous serving of utterly tasteless scallops, with almost no color despite being "seared". Bleah. Dessert was some Hawaiian thing served in half a pineapple It was good - pineapple, mango and strawberries over coconut ice cream and pound cake - but was obviously meant to serve 3 people. I wound up eating the fruit and leaving the rest. I talked the ladies out of a California chard and we drank a Yalumba Viognier instead - and it was the best part of the meal.

Nothing much to write about here. I missed the market Sunday morning because of a family commitment, and had a truly crappy "meal" at Polly's before our show at the 9:30 Club last night. Don't order the grilled cheese there either.

Wine Laws -- Shipping, To-Go, and More
Heather replied to Tweaked's topic in Beer, Wine, and Cocktails
Maryland already bans in-state shipping, right? So it doesn't apply. Bastards. -
I'm in. If they don't open on time there's always Trio.

I am, alas, not in. The 4th doesn't work, and the 11th is Scott's birthday so will be busy that day too. Have fun!

Didn't happen. What's next on the list?

[Yeah, haven't you read the list? We've got the food taken care of, and now the entertainment's taken care of too. What are you bringing?] -

My kids are 5 (almost 6) and just turned 3. They will appreciate having some other kids to play with. -
You are so bad. I'd also like to nominate the African Restaurant in SS - can't remember the name. Joe, can you help me out here?

I'm in. And I like Sabang.

That sounds like what used to be Nam's? They were a sit-down the last time I was there. Bahn Mi are great. We go to Ba-Le (?) bakery on Rockville Pike across from Wintergreen Plaza. I think that may be dinner tonight. I am addicted to the garlic sauce at Lebanese Taverna, particularly when it's slathered all over the chicken shawarma and stuffed in their excellent pita. Cuban Corner in Rockville has very good Cuban (what else?) sandwiches. Do patties count as sandwiches? If so I nominate Negril's.

Piss off. I'm in depending on the time. Do we need salad and garlic bread?
