  1. I've work around the corner from Mia's and it's swiftly becoming a favorite. I usually get a salad and share a pizza with a coworker. My favorite salads are ones with their blue cheese in it, it's awesome stuff. My favorite pizza was the alsace pizza with carmelized onions, procuittio and gruyere. Nothing wrong with that.
  2. I love dino's and I wish I could go there more freqently. I took my husband to celebrate some good fortunes that we have had I finally got to try a mixed drink (kaffir lime rickey, good but not amazing. The wine list there is so crazy and long it's easy to forget about other forms of delightful alcohol you can get at dino's! We had the resteraunt month deal. For appetizers we shared mushroom over polenta, (best dish of the night, so so wonderful) griled apricots wrapped with procuitto and stuffed with marscapone (was delicious but the plating was a little odd, just think a smaller plate would make the dish look less spares vs 6 lonley appricot halves on a big plate) duck ragu and the mushrooms with ramps over pasta. and for desert we had the guffanti picante and annother cheese that I'm blanking on the name. I noticed that since I've been to dino's roughly 5 months ago they offer less jams and things on the plate but they give more cheese. three cheers for more cheese. We capped the night off with complimetnary limoncello and this awesome chocolate/hazelnut gelato concotion. Looking at the menu I wish I had 2 extra stomachs to make room for all the other wonderful dishes on the menu that I want to enjoy. Oh well. I think Dion's is my favorite DC resteraunt, just delightul food.
  3. What i might do is a kind of US vs China thing since the big event is the gymnastics showdown with China vs US.
  4. Dance Party references Disco Dan, not vice versa. Ahh. And I was in elementary school in '92 and in Rhode Island to boot.
  5. how about I'm hosting an Olympics watching party for about 7-10 people. I might do the chips and dips route but any suggestions?

  7. I can't say I've seen too many badly behaving kids around takoma park but I suppose I don't hang around in takoma park proper anyway. Heather- disco dan is that a dance party reference?
  8. Exactly how does Mark from mark's kitchen get away with serving korean short ribs and *gasp* chicken? Oh yeah he's also serving vegan food too. Gillian please don't listen to the haters, there are plenty of takoma denizens who would love to have you open a resteraunt here and would eat there at least once a month.
  9. Ruan Thai for my Nam Kao Sod fix. On Sunday we were going to go to Bombay in White Oak to try their non buffet menu but unfortunatly we hit in the afternoon deadzone when it was closed so we tried the chinese place next door. They had spicy wantons and shreded pork with dried tofu, both good.
  10. The wandering Nomad is a new cafe place that resides in the former Savory Cafe spot across from the Takoma metro. The only thing I've tried is a refreshing cucumber drink. The also different sandwiches and baked goods, so time will tell if they end up being more of the same like Savory or if they have a different identity. I got into a nice conversation with the manager who makes it about how said cucumber drink would taste excellent with some rum or tequilla but I don't suppose any liquor liscnese will be forthcoming.
  11. My own WTF came from this pizza/sub shop in the Outer Banks. My friend, my sister and I go in, order three calzones. Mine and my friend's arrive together and my sister says "go ahead, mine will be out soon" We wait. and wait and wait. Finally we dig in. We've nearly done with our calzones and my sister still hasn't gotten hers. On the third time we ask the waitress what is going on, and observe how a table that came in behind us already has their food the waitress realizes that she gave my sister's calzone to the wrong table. And then we wait, and wait and wait. And no calzone is forthcoming. The other party pays and leaves and we are still waiting. I damn near should have just walked out. Instead we paid for the calzones we ate and left and went and got her a sandwich from subways. And while I hate to be ageist since I'm 24 but I think everyone working in that resteraunt (including the people working in the kitchen- I took a sneak peak in there when the door was open) were 21 and under.
  12. Rocks Burger was kind of a disapointment as both the burger and the pork were burned a little bit. I should have complained but since there was a long line and I had a short lunch break I just picked it apart and ate what I could.
  13. I haven't been to woodlands and it's been ages since I went to udupi. And I've never dined out with you fine folks. So I'd love to try that some time.
  14. There was a brief article in the July issue of the Takoma Park Voice that said Chef Clark is in fact buying the space and plans to call the resteraunt Avenue Open (huuuuh) and plans to be open for lunch, dinner and Brunch on Sundays (woooooot) There was no timeline for when this space would be developed, I'm guessing the Forest Glen space would come first?
  15. I was there last week and I tried the sliders and I found them to be a little too cooked around the edges but still tasty and the tiny buns were excellent! Definetly superior to Matchbox. And the onion rings were great. My friend had a tuna burger and fully enjoyed it. So now I want to go back and try the pork bbq buger. Mbutcher are we on for the Porkbbbquburger for July?
  16. I came to a very similar conclusion but the only thing is that talliano's doesn't seem to be that much bigger than CK. Of course the kitchen might be bigger, which is what really matters.
  17. Hahahahahha and also HAh. I love to go there with my friends after we've been out and about all night long.
  18. I tried their veggie dumplings and the crispy pancakes. The Pancakes were quite delicious, the dumplins were not so impressive.
  19. I've had great straweberries at the Takoma Farmer's market but bad luck with trying to do anything with them! I tried doing a stawberry tart but I didn't preecook the tart shell enough and it turned into a mushy mess (still tasted good) Last weekend I made shortcakes that didn't rise becuase unbeknowest to me the bakin powder had expiered 6 months ago. So I just riped them up and put them in a ramekin and they still tasted fine. Next week I'm sticking to strawberrys marinated in a bit of sugar and marsala wine, maaaaybe over ice cream if I'm feeling fancy. Hard to screw that up.
  20. I go here once and a while for lunch. Their food is pretty decent for the price (most entrees are about 8-12 dollars) and their bread at the bathesda one is very fresh and has a good crust. Their metballs are light and flavorfull and I like thier lasagana, their sausages and the chicken in sun dried tomato sauce (but I wish they'd put more veggies in that dish) anyway I'd give it a 7/10.
  21. Indeed. Much much easier to to deal with pork shoulder rathern than rib meat. I am so there to try it in July! Oh and my health concious co workers were very intrigued by the tuna burger.
  22. I just got back. I went with my husband, he had the peperjack burger and I had the bleu cheese burger. Both were really good but I thought my blue cheese was more plentiful and the flavor was more pronounced than that pepperjack which got a bit lost in the other flavors. Husband liked it that way, he enjoys subtle things. We shared an order of sweet potato fries and vanilla shake. I decided not to name drop but I still got a burger that was nice and medium. I recomended this place and will be back to try the onion rings, those looked good too. PS will we see the barbecue pork burger on the menu anytime soon? I missed the deadline to vote but I would've voted for that if it was was really good cue which can be hard to find around here.
