  1. Take out from Cafe Asia... would have been delivery but they don't deliver to my 'hood. Sad very sad...
  2. I ate at the Grill today and yesterday! Well, picked up from the Grill... Yesterday, I had the chicken sandwich fully dressed. Uhmmm I don't love garlic and let's just say I reaked for the rest of the day. My friend had the pork sandwich and it was love. BUT the chicken was so perfect that today I went back and had an undressed chicken sandwich. Oh, actually I had them add ketchup so I could taste it since I don't eat pork or beef. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Observation: if you order ahead I don't think they like it so much if you go back to the grill and tell them it was not done as ordered. I don't know if the irritation was real or pretend, but the people behind the grill seemed a bit put off at having to correct the order. Nancy eta for spelling!!
  3. Wow. I am glad I posted this link. I am from Memphis and they just did a piece on BBQ and Memphis. My friends and I were shocked at how many mediocre places they highlighted. Though, to be fair, except for a couple of true tourist traps, BBQ at mediocre places in Memphis is better than most places in the US. Continue the discussion, fascinating...
  4. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/ck_gc_washington_dc/ Wonder what DR Folks would think of FoodTV's views of DC.
  5. Okay so I have to say that I can't stop eating the cucumber and yellow tomato salad I made with produce from the Eastern Market Farmers Market. The cukes are the pickling kind from Marshall Farms. They have an amazing variety of cucumbers for sell but I love pickling ones. The tomatoes are from another vendor. A little bit of salt and pepper and summer explodes in the mouth. Next week Marshall Farms will have tomatoes too... oh how I wish summer could last all year if only for the produce. Nancy BTW, I hope I have the name of the cucumber vendor right, if I don't I'm sorry...
  6. Is it too late to participate in the dinner on the 24th?
  7. For the record, I just called Galileo to see if the Grill was going on today. They informed me that Chef Donna is out of town, and the Grill will be cold until he returns. (it could be two weeks) I am soooo craving the Grill. Sad day. Very sad day. Just doing my civic duty. Nancy
  8. I am in love. Yes, in love. I treked up all by my little ol' lonesome to Colorado Kitchen this afternoon for a break from a writing project. I totally underestimated the amount of time it would take to get to the restaurant from Capitol Hill. I arrived at the restaurant at 2:10 (they stop serving at 2:30). The place was still hopping. I sat at the counter which was in itself a treat. Okay, the gushing continues... Though it was late in the day, I ordered breakfast scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, grits made with real hominy grits, great ice tea. Then I remembered the discussion about donuts. The servers guided me to the donut holes instead of the three assorted donuts. OH my... better than beignets in New Orleans I swear. Oh and I cleared my breakfast plate. I am already planning my dinner there this week with friends. Am soooo excited to have found this place through y'all... Thanks!!!!
  9. Had the pizza last week. Yum. Thinking about the chicken sandwich this week. Thoughts? OH and the canoli (sp?) better than yum... Nancy
  10. Okay, so I love the idea of Breadline. I have been going at least once a week for the past few months. I am generally happiest when I get a smoothie and ciabata roll. When I order either a sandwich or salad I am 9 out of 10 times disappointed. Today's lunch was the last straw. Literally. I ordered a grilled veggie piadine and a very berry smoothie. The veggies where not grilled, more like charred. Let's see, my office smells like something that survived a fire. Not even joking, someone just walked by and asked what I caught on fire. I just threw out an $8 sandwich. I wish it were the first time I had not been able to eat something ordered at Breadline. The grilled cheese was a ridiculous combination of cheeses that only certain people would enjoy (especially on the semi-sweet brioche bread). The falafel was dry. The chicken with guac didn't have enough guac and the chicken was dry. The persian chicken salad had so much sauce the greens wilted/drowned. Oh and I didn't even get my smoothie that I normally love because (1) the coffee area had not been stocked so the server had to go and get the juices required (2) since the juices were hot she had to add more ice and (3) when she tried to blend the smoothie with the additional ice the machine did not work. I told her not to worry about blending the extra ice. She tried to pour the concoction into a cup and it was a disaster. I told her not to worry about the smoothie (the line was out the door at this point) and just give me my money back. She asked for my receipt!!! Huh? I want to love Breadline. I want to stand on the street corner and tell people they have to go and try the place. Why do I keep having such not great experiences at the place? Sorry for the vent. It just had to get out
