  1. The Thai restaurant is adequate. The Greek place (which is behind the main strip of restaurants) is OK. It's main attraction is a very nice deck. The sports bar (where I used to go watch my beloved Steelers) has OK pub grub, good wings and serves a "diner-style" brunch that works. I remember (barely) going to a couple of the other places and they were OK. Bottom line - I wouldn't travel from any further away than DelRay to go to any of these places, but as neighborhood joints they work.
  2. Si. I mean, Hai. I mean, si. I'm just all confused.
  3. welcome hm212. It'll be great to have you. There will be a number of kids. Peanut is 8 months Whopper Jr. (Stretch's) is 5 months(?) Heather's kids are 5 and 2 Mrs B's kids are teens Mrs JPW often tells me that I have the mentality of a 7 year old.
  4. Probably because it's the ONLY review. One caution on this -- Roger Miller is tiny. Although, if we can push aside the African immigrants who congregate on the patio, we could sit outside. Unfortunately, I think that some of the authenticity left when they got rid of the astroturf on the lawn and put in a real patio. There's another Ethiopian place called, you guessed it, Addis Ababa on Thayer that Mrs JPW and I have been meaning to try. Nice big rooftop deck.
  5. May and June are pretty packed, so for me it depends on day. It looks like you'll need every pasta roller you can get. Would be happy to loan mine.
  6. If you're not careful Mark, it won't be long before they start describing you as "dreamy".
  7. Excellent!! We'll pack Peanut up and port her along as much as possible. And I like the first suggestion.
  8. Ummmm.... Has this event been OK'd by the forum host? Have you requested your propaganda materials? Finally, please remember that no funds are to be raised at the event itself. Thank you.
  9. I've got a few ideas...
  10. An attempt to keep you from stuffing the ballot box.
  11. Great horny toad! Rockwell's been kidnapped and replaced by Ryan Seacrest!
  12. Circle Bistro was stop #1 on our Friday happy hour(s) Some nice wine by the glass. A zin that was redolent of caramel and chocolate. Not my style of wine but well done. Kermit Lynch Cotes de Rhone. Here, the importer has turned into negociant and started bottling his own. (as explained by our gracious host Chef Cox). Made for the American market, but still maintaining that typical Rhone black pepper/leather. A nice happy hour wine. The fries were quite good, but the house-made potato crisps were my favorite. We had, among other things, a charcuterie plate that had a nice mix of meat, olives, mustard, pate, and cornichons. The real winner was the ris de veau (aka sweetbreads). Oh my. Some of the best that I've ever had. Perfect crunch on the outside and creamy in the middle. See Palena thread for our round 2 stop.
  13. To make our "Happy Hour second round of snacks" that Bilrus mentioned more explicit, the 4 of us had: - Gnocchi - Penne with lamb meatballs - The veloute - Canederli - Hot Dog -Hamburger - more Gnocchi - one more entree that mdt scarfed down All were excellent. Among the standouts were those luscious lamb meatballs. One of those dishes where you say "Well, I can make lamb meatballs". Not like this you can't. The canderli were absolutely ethereal dumplings. This jumped straight onto the short list of best dishes that I've had this year. The Hot Dog was spicy and sweet at the same time. Almost more like a Hungarian kielbasa than what one would typically think of a hot dog. Added bonus was some delicious sauerkraut. I don't generally like sauerkraut, but I wolfed this down. The hamburger was quite good, but a little salty for my palate.
  14. You can also pick up the Cento brand San Marzanos at Snider's in Silver Spring.
  15. At Takoma -- First asparagus of the year.
  16. Thai Market across the street from Safeway in downtown SS. For a good site look here. I started my own list on eG some time and promised babka I would update some time ago but never did. It was in fact my first post on eG. <sniff> </sniff>
  17. Cool! Best way to recognize us, look for the tallest skinniest guy in the room -- that'll be mdt. Balding stocky guy with blond crew cut and the look of exhaustion only seen on the faces of parents of infants -- that'll be me.
  18. <burp> Just returned from lunch at Pho 75 on Rockville Pike and... I was disappointed. The broth was watery without a hint of star anise. The eye of round was of dubious quality. The jalapenos were dried out and heatless. Maybe because I'm farang/gaijin (sorry don't know the Vietnamese word) and I got the scraps? Much prefer Pho Nguyen. Sure, it's about $2 more, but with the lunch special you also get a couple of spring rolls and usually free tea. I might try Pho 75 again, but it's already way behind in the race.
  19. I'll probably be able to make it down about 6, depending, of course, on traffic. My limosine duties are being transferred to day care pick up, so after this week it will be more difficult for me to make HH. I need to have my last gasp.
  20. That's exactly what I wanted to say. What are they these days? $3? Definately more upscale fast food than downscale resto.
  21. Careful buddy. That's thin ice you're skating on. Miniburgers must go!
