  1. I think this calls for the Lego Architecture collection- I would suggest: https://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Architecture-Venice-Skyline-Building/dp/B017B19CX6 Or maybe the non-lego mini blocks of the Leaning Tower or Colosseum!
  2. Can I just put this post out here and say- you all are doing great. Hang in there. I don't have kids, and the admiration I have for all the parents out there right now juggling jobs, teaching their kids, staying sane, managing a household with all the shortages. You all are amazing. I wish I had a picture of this little girl earlier who was riding a push scooter with a gold, shiny Wonder Woman cape billowing behind her. It is what I think of when I think of you all. Stay strong.
  3. I was so very lucky when I was in 5th Grade a new girl moved to my county. I often met the new kids coming into my grade, due to my Aunt being in the administration. This lovely young girl was Indian, and the meals I got the privilege of having and smelling and experiencing at her house were just amazing. I think she, like many other immigrant kids into new neighborhoods, was maybe embarrassed by the foods, but I was just enamored. Her Mom used to make these chips that puffed that I called styrofoam chips due to the texture, which I thought were so cool. When I was in high school she made an Indian meal for my Dad. I am not sure if he had ever had Indian food before. In a county of little to no diversity, two of my favorite friends were/are Indian, for this I am really thankful. I love Indian foods, it is one of my favorites to eat and cook. And you are very right- it is so soothing. And perfect right now in so many ways for cooking and eating.
  4. We got take out from Holy Cow tonight- quite tasty, I think it is better right in the store, but not bad at all delivery! Rings and tots were a nice splurge after a long run today (well long for me, and my run is likely other people's jog). And we live close enough neither rings or tots were at all soggy. Burger a little more done than I otherwise would like it, but given delivery I think it was a good delivery burger! And we like supporting hyper local.
  5. Agreed. I love to cook, but I have to say cooking right now takes a lot of thought. I love to stress bake, but I don't want to over bake and use up items when not needed. I really don't want to go to the grocery store, and I know things are going to start running low due to supply chain issues in production and keeping enough healthy people in those factories, I did do an order for basics that I will pick up in a few days. So I am cooking for an eye to also using all my ingredients in a way to make the most meals possible, in the most nutritious way I can. So not everything I am making right now is the best meal I could make ever. But it is a good meal that uses what I have wisely.
  6. Yesterday was leftover vegetable briyani. Today was leftovers that I re-hashed. We ate the leftover forbidden rice I made and basmati rice from our last takeout order, bangian bharta- to which I added the leftover chicken thighs, cut up in chunks, and the last little pud of roasted peppers and onions, warmed up a pack of TJ's yellow dal, and heated two frozen roti's in the skillet. I have been trying to use up all the leftovers in a timely manner.
  7. Hello DonRockwellians, Taking the invitation Don gave me in another forum to start a thread on my law firm and some of the good work we do. We have a fairly diverse practice area, I mainly do family law, but my firm practices in a lot of areas, including general civil litigation, real estate, land use, wills, trusts, estates, guardianship, adoption, criminal, etc. Well here is one thing we are currently doing to help out small businesses in the Northern Virginia area. If you need this for your business, reach out. Katelin Moomau
  8. I am interested to see what they do. I feel like they should have sent that email once the site was up and running, I went to the website and it was... menus will be posted later, but excited nonetheless.
  9. I put in a Harris Teeter express lane order, for Monday a fews days ago. Which is fine, I don't need anything now, I just have been planning for when we run low on butter and lactose free milk (and Diet Coke our shameful addiction). Plus Hubby really likes squishy white bread, which I am not good at baking. Although I was going to try a Japanese Milk Bread recipe. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Cheesetique has added some produce and other items that you can order for pick up (if I could do normal dairy, that would be a nice option). Apparently Streets Market was pretty well stocked a few days ago- don't know if you can do pick up. I haven't wanted to go in a store. So the places offering pick up have been great. I would like to support small if I can. BUT I also appreciate Harris Teeter and them being able to do what they are doing for the community in all the ways they are doing it. I got Max's food from Old Town School for Dogs, they put it in my trunk, I have left it there for a few days, as Max still has some food left so I don't have to worry about disinfecting it all. And YAY for supporting a small business!
  10. I saw on David Chang's instagram that Floyd Cardoz died of Covid 19. I am so sad for his family and friends. I just watched that episode of Ugly Delicious, and I wish I had gotten to eat his food, he looked like a really cool person. Stay safe.
  11. I used the last little nub of smoked London broil to make beef vegetable soup with: onion, garlic, carrots, celery, white kidney beans, lima beans, peas, corn, garlic salt, oregano, thyme, Worchestershire sauce. Not sure why I did't use any green beans? I also made some parmasean, black pepper biscuits.
  12. I was wondering about not seeing him on here, as well. I am so sorry he passed. He was a really nice guy, who was always very nice, and much more personable and supportive than you would ever know. I liked talking with him, having a drink together now and then. Cheers Dave, missing your personal messages and positivity right now.
  13. Anyone know what the Alexandria/Del Ray Farmer's Markets might do during the shut down?
  14. Today was leftover turkey meatloaf sandwich on an English Muffin with lettuce, and a mandarin orange. The turkey meatloaf mixture had a lot of veggies in it, as I didn't have a ton of meat, so not feeling guilty about the lack of other vegetables on my sandwich.
  15. Last night was sweet chili marinated chicken thighs baked in the oven, forbidden rice, and zucchini sauteed in miso butter. The chicken jus was a good addition to the rice.
  16. Delivery tonight, portions were very generous, and it was pretty spicy. Hubby got Tandoori chicken, samosas, I got veggie briyani and bangian bharta. Which is fine for me, I love spicy, but I should probably go take a tums now... We also got naan. Delivery was as quick as usual, but this is right by our house.
  17. Not sure what the box says, but it seems to have lasted a pretty long time since I opened it, it's likely been two weeks... I checked it to see if I thought it had gone bad in any way, and nope. Maybe between the vinegar and seaweed, they keep bacteria away?
  18. No, it was the last of a package from Costco- which was fine, but I forgot that the last time we ate it, I added pickled ginger, lime juice and sesame seeds, which I think really help to amp it up just a little.
  19. You know how to find me! Offer remains open.
  20. Last night was salmon terriyaki with forbidden rice and seaweed salad.
  21. My kale is still alive from last year, but I am waging an aphid battle on it now, which is annoying given the cabbage worm war last year, it is going to seed anyway so oh well. I planted some carrot seeds, but haven't seen anything happen yet... I have some chard seedlings coming up, and will have to thin them. I just got my meyer lemon tree. I ordered some tomato and pepper plants, which will arrive later. I am constantly taking my lemongrass in and back outdoors, same with my palm trees. The palm trees were going gang busters, and then I think I just missed some watering and now they are about as small as when I bought them, oh well. They will grow back.
  22. Last night was turkey meatloaf, roasted new potatoes and asparagus. I didn't have a huge amount of turkey leftover, so I added in red pepper, carrot, garlic, onion, 2 bread heels which were all chopped in the food processor, and an egg, salt and pepper. It could have used a little more spice, and I completely forgot the ketchup. So it wasn't great, but it was fine. It will make a good sandwich cold with mayo- so there you go. The asparagus and potatoes were just a little butter, olive oil, salt and pepper and were good. I tried to do smashed potatoes, but they didn't quite get as crispy, next time I will do them a little differently and pre-cook in the microwave then smash, use more butter, maybe add Old Bay because that is what people from Maryland do...
  23. Lunch today was a hash of the leftover smashed potatoes, leftover smoked London broil, asparagus. Cut into smaller bits and put in a skillet with a decent serving of butter, some cayenne, cumin, Worcestershire. Topped with two runny fried eggs.
  24. Not sure what Giant it is at, but I think you live pretty close to me, if you need someone to go get it, and drop it at your porch, DM me and we can work it out. I am trying not to go out a lot, but happy to help you out.
  25. Last night was a snack dinner of dried fruits, pita chips, gruyere and some sparkling wine.
