  1. With the proliferation of cupacke-only places in NYC, I am surprised a place like Georgetown Cupcake hasn't opened yet. I don't really understand the whole cupcake thing, but there a lot of folks (and kids) that love them. I guarantee this place will do well, even if the product is mediocre.
  2. I guess I should chime in since I started this shitstorm. I am not saying that I would change my kids diapers in the restaurant, I agree it is a bit uncouth. However, if I saw someone else doing it, I wouldn't really care. It's in the same vein as the cellphone thing. I would never use my cellphone in a nice restaurant, I would excuse myself and take the call elsewhere. However, if I saw someone else taking a call, I wouldn't really give a shit. Complaining about all of these little things seems a little pointless to me. So, in conclusion, I do not condone changing a diaper in a restaurant. I would not change my daughters diaper in a restaurant. I just don't think it is that big of a deal if someone else does.
  3. Agreed, the changing of the diaper on the seat was perhaps inappropriate, and maybe they could have looked for a better place to do the deed. If there was a stroller present, then yes, they should have used the stroller. I guess I was a bit irked by your tone in regards to the entire incident. It was like it was the worst thing you had ever seen in your life. Having not been there, I don't feel very qualified to comment anymore on the situation, so I will leave it at that. Also, I agree on the hygiene issue. If it was a "poop" diaper, by all means get the kid somewhere else and change the diaper. (I don't think this was the case, however). The breastfeeding issue is another can of worms which I think should remain closed. I think people can tell by my previous post where I stand on that issue.
  4. Is this really that big of a deal? Maybe they forgot the changing pad. I am guessing that Nam-Viet doesnt have a changing table in the bathroom. I agree, maybe they could have been a little more discreet, but sometimes with kids you gotta do watcha gotta do. Would you have been equally annoyed if they had left the kid in its soiled diaper and it screamed throughout your meal? Also, breast feeding without a blanket? BFD? My advice, don't look.
  5. It's going to be like "downtown" Silver Spring. One of the problems with all of this new development is that the lease rates are going to be astronomical for the retail space. Thus, you will probably be looking at a lot of chain/corporate establishments in those spots. Yes, Clarendon is certainly going to lose a great deal of its neighborhood charm. However, it will be great for the retailers/restaurants that are already there....
  6. I remember when I was in high school this was the place to go. My wife and I lived in Old Town for almost 5 years and never went once. My, how I have grown....
  7. We order Grade A Tahitian Vanilla Beans fron the Organic Vanilla Bean Company (they sell online). The quality is quite good for the price. We are mainly steeping them in cream, so if the beans are a bit dry it is not a big deal. As far as storage, we store them tightly wrapped in an airtight container at room temperature (well our room temp is 64 degrees), but they do not need to be refrigerated. Go for it, they are much better quality than Whole Foods, Costco, Harris Teeter, etc....
  8. You should check out that House of Biryani palce in the same shopping center. We often get lunch from there. It's not as good as Ravi Kabob, but the chicken kabab is flavorful and the chickpeas that come on the side are pretty good. BTW, have you ventured into Yorktown Bistro yet? I have yet to take the plunge....
  9. Baccala is referring to a wine/chocolate tasting we will be doing at Grape Juice Wine Shop on 12/14 from 5-8 PM. They are located at 5707 Lee Highway in Arlington, in the same shopping center as Restaurant Vero. We normally do not sell chocolates at their store (as our shop is right down the street), so this is just a special one-time gig for the holidays. Definitely try and stop by. Thanks, Jason
  10. I hope everyone is enjoying the snowy day. Just an FYI, we will be staying open late (until 8 PM) on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting next week for all of you holiday shoppers. So, for the holidays, we are open from 10-6 on Mon, Wed., and Fri. and from 10-8 on Tues and Thurs. We are also open on Saturday from 11-5. and, we will be open on Christmas Eve from 10-4. So please try and stop by if you are in the area. We always have chocolates available for tasting and it would be nice to meet all of you. Happy Holidays, Jason
  11. I hate to say it, but you spelled VALRHONA wrong I tried to eat here on Saturday night, but even at 10 PM, it was too crowded at the bar....I will try again at another time... Thanks for the report.
  12. I don't mean to pass judgement here, but take a look at the Yorktown Bistro website (www.yorktownbistro.com). I understand it is still under construction, but that first paragraph is mighty confusing. Being a resisdent of the area, I wish them the best of luck in that spot....
  13. I believe Scott had asked for some more information regarding Artisan Confections, so here you go. For those of you that have not been here, we are located at 4815-B Lee highway in Arlington. We are very close to the intersection of Glebe Rd. and Lee Hwy. Our normal hours are 10-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 on Saturday. We are closed Sundays. I am always here much earlier than 10, and often much later than 6, so if you can not make it during those times, please call to see if I am here. As for holiday orders, we are now starting to take them. You are welcome to place an order over the phone and pick it up at anytime. We also ship. Shipping rates obviously vary, but for most locations on the East Coast the shipping is $10.00. If you need any sort of client gifts, corporate holiday stuff, etc. please contact us sooner than later so we can get the order processed and your chocolates guaranteed. We are relaunching our updated website early next week, so most of the information can be found there. If anyone has any questions, please PM me. One final thing, we are also in the need of some seasonal P/T help. We are basically looking for help from the 1st week of December until X-Mas. Preferably in the afternoon, but we are flexible. Again, please PM me if you know of anyone that is interested in a little extra cash over the holidays (and lots of free chocolate, we do make mistakes....) Thanks, Jason
  14. I tried this place out right after they opened. I thought it was pretty good. By only "beef" was that I thought there was a bit too much black pepper on the burger and that the bun was a bit too big for the patty. It was good though. I am still a 5 Guys fan myself, so I am a bit biased. I wonder how they are doing in that location? It is a bit tucked away. I think there is some sort of wine bar next door, but I have yet to try it out.
  15. Should I take one for the team? It is right across the street.... Anyone want to buy me lunch?
  16. Where should I post it? I guess we need to move off of the "Events" board. As for orders, you can certainly call them in to be assured that you get what you want. We are starting to take holiday orders, so please give me a shout and we can get your order confirmed. You can certainly come by the shop at anytime and hand pick what you would like as well. We are open Mon-Fri 10-6 and Saturday 11-5. We are closed on Sunday. I will post all of the contact info (with landmarks) in the appropriate place. (If someone lets me know the best place for that kind of info...) Thanks again. Jason
  17. Thanks to everyone that came by. The open house was a great success and we are very happy with our new flavors and products. It was nice meeting everyone and please be sure to keep us in mind with the holiday season quickly approaching. Thanks again. Jason
  18. For all of those interested, we will be having an open house/tasting at our shop on Saturday 10/27, from 11-3. We are going to be tasting all of our new flavors and a few new products we will be offering for the upcoming holiday season. We are now making a rich Bittersweet Hot Chocolate mix and Fleur de Sel Caramels in nice shiny tins. Our new flavors include: FRESH MINT, using local "Chocolate Mint" from EcoFarms in Lanham, Md, CHERRY-GINGER, AGED BOURBON, IRISH COFFEE, CITRUS CARAMEL, PISTACHIO, APRICOT-TEA, 66% BITTERSWEET. I am sure we will also have some of our other chocoaltes avaialble for tasting as well. So, if you are in the neighborhood, please stop by on the 27th and say hello. We are located at 4815-B Lee Highway in Arlington. We are right near the intersection of Glebe and Lee Highway. Some landmarks include: The Cowboy Cafe (across the street), McDonalds (also across the street), and Subway (which is right next door). Parking is available. Thanks, Jason
  19. I've been to Liberty Tavern twice in the last 2 weeks, and I think it is a great addition to the neighborhood. The food has been quite good and the prices are definitely reasonable. They have been very accomodating with the kids as well. This is the type of place that every neighborhood needs and I am glad they found a home in Arlington. I think they just changed the menu last week, but last night we enjoyed Gnocchi w/ Butternut Squash, Mushrooms, and a sort of Beurre Noisette. It was really good and a resonable at $8 (for a 1/2 portion). We also enjoyed the Salt Cod Fritters and a simple chopped salad. i look forward to going back and tying some of the other new menu items.
  20. Sorry for the double post...I moved this from the other thread. If there is anyone out there that wanted to take the Chocolate Class in August but was unable to attend? I had a couple of cancellations for my class this Thursday (9/27) at 7 PM. If anyone is interested, I have 4 spots available. Please contact me ASAP if you would like to come. Feel free to PM or email me for more information. The classes normally run $65.00/pp, but since it is such short notice I can offer the spaces up at $55.00/ea (just don't tell the other members of the class....) Many Thanks, Jason Andelman jason@artisanconfections.com 703-239-0616
