  1. I make my own Caesar dressing: white wine vinegar, olive oil, tabasco, chopped anchovies, garlic, bit of lemon juice, salt, pepper. Once that is blended, pour over lettuce- then add a soft boiled egg, letting the yolk emusify into the dressing. Heaven!
  2. Wow, so cool is the new delicious? I'll chase it with a swig of Merlot.
  3. I sincerely hope the above post is dripping with as much sarcasm as I interpret it to be.
  4. I will be there Weds night for dinner, but now perhaps this eve for libations as well! ETA I think I will be there tonight, with my head on the bar, hopefully not crying and singing love hurrrrrrrrrts
  5. Some more news from behind the bar: "Gina Chersevani of Rasika and Will Earls of Hudson have both parted ways with their employers in the last week."
  6. Oh no. Ohhh no. She did not... ETA: And to add insult to injury, she misspelled 'L'Amyphitryon.' RR, if you're gonna visit my favorite restau in Aix, the chef that taught me how to cook, at least get the name right!!!
  7. don't go for anything you found "comforting" before. it wil be a natural turn off.... start off with non-breakfast foods, ie sandwiches, then salads. none of your "favorites'- IMO they made me feel guilty. crackers worked the best, and pretzel sticks.
  8. will anyone join me on the 30th for fun games recreational alcoholism?
  9. Before I (and various doctors) verified my food allergies, I was almost positive I was celiac. It is very important to allow your intestinal tract to heal- from any sort of allergy that you have been constantly inflicting upon yourself. Going cold turkey is tough, but important. (My soy allergy reduced my ability to absorb nutrients and produced similar side effects.) I highly recommend research and books, such as Wheat Free, Worry Free. And while you may feel like you're imposing an annoyance by quizzing servers and/or kitchens on each and every ingredient, it is a much better feeling than clutching your stomach and wondering where oh where did that allergen sneak in. We are lucky to live in a time and place where food allergy awareness is a crucial point in most kitchens. And, if it's not, we can take our money and walk out the door.
  10. immediately forwarded to coupled friends... including my parents who make a cameo
  11. The 30th works for me... will there still be booze left ?
  12. Bump. Are we going to plan an actual happy hour/dinner for one night that week?
  13. I second the Mas de Gourgonnier rec. I love their wines- and, by the way Joe R., I've been able to pick up a couple of their reds (04 and 05) at the P Street Whole Foods in the past. But yes, of late I've only seen the rose there. I do know of a NY distributor though if you're interested. And to Joe H.- please smuggle back some inexpensive whites from Cassis.
  14. Tom Moore's Tavern is classic Bermuda but on the high-end; Barracuda Grill in Hamilton was good fish and fun drinks; Avoid Bolero in Hamilton- it took about an hour or so to get wine, which arrived after our appetizers (no exaggeration).
  15. Komi did an excellent job of accomodating allergies when I dined there. I again put forth Chop't and Juice Joint Cafe as allergen-aware "cheap eats" places... my advice is to go toward the "natural" places. Java Green, for example, carries wheat-free soy sauce. Au Bon Pain does list allergens on its website; however I have seen an allergic reaction due to cross-contamination preparations (nuts).
  16. I have not visited either one. Restaurants I can recommend are L'Amphitryon (2 Rue Paul Doumer, just off Cours Mirabeau), which I regret may be closed on Sunday, but worth an out of the way trip if you have time; Papagayo and other small hideaways among the Place de Cardeurs; oh! and Restaurant La Fontaine, this little bistro run by Italians with lots of "menus".
  17. Does anyone have a Costco card they'd like to exploit- or pity for a single, carless girl in the city? I'd love to go to Cotsco and get great prices on a lot of stuff (literally) but I don't need that much in storage for just myself. Anyone want to do a "singles" run- meaning we'd share the spoils?
  18. Jaleo, Oyamel, etc. have special allergy-conscious menus; also Austin Grill (chain I know) has a gluten-free menu. Chop't is super-conscious in its preparations but obviously not a gluten-free kitchen. Sites I recommend: glutenfreegirl.com; allergicgirl.blogspot.com
  19. EEEEEEE! J'adore j'adore j'adore aix! Go out to the vineyards in Cassis and taste some great whites! Also I know that Jean-Luc Columbo is there. I don't know what your dining plans are but I am happy to provide recs (I studied abroad there and was recently back in April.)
  20. Is this the same as Shisho Kombu ?
  21. I'm game, dates dependent. I'd love to make a good challah...
