  1. On Dec. 24, at the frost bitten hour of 8:45am, legant, SrtaJRosa, DirtyMartini, my brother and I gathered at the D.C. Central Kitchen to help prepare meals for the less fortunate. legant prepared pizza for the volunteer lunch (which I'm sure was delicious) while the rest of us slaved *haha* away, laying out pans of frozen catfish and fried chicken, and then taking said catfish and chicken and packaging it for delivery. I was mighty jealous of my brother and the others when they got to tear apart turkey carcasses while I attempted- and failed- my assigned task of slicing a cake. (I may look dainty but I can't slice a straight line to save my life. Give me flesh ripping any day!) It was a fun time, and something I'd definitely do again. I encourage everyone to give it a try! It was a great way to meet and chat with fellow Rockwellians, and the DCCK has a great mission. Thanks to legant for putting it together!
  2. Hmm.. ok so any recs for brunch tomorrow at Beck? I'm going with my brother, who is a meat and seafood lover, and I'm more of a no-butter light on all the sauce. Will we be ok at Beck?
  3. Hi Galen, Can you tell us a little more about your New Year's Day brunch? Also, will you be open on Christmas day? Thanks!
  4. I'm with Daniel on this one, in terms of timing. But I will NOT eat at Cosi. (And probably not Georgia Brown's either...)
  5. I thought Heritage in Dupont delivered as well ? That might be a better bet.
  6. I could be down for Beck or something in that area next week.
  7. I'm definitely in (with my lil bro). Can you send more info or post it? Thanks!
  8. Vidalia, Circle Bistro, Round Robin, and Town & Country in the Mayflower spring to mind.
  9. I've never seen this topic before, but FWIW, I recently had a perfectly acceptable brunch there. Guac was fine, and the salads my friend and I "custom ordered" (due to allergies) were delicious.
  10. Those Ziploc Steamfresh bags are my boyfriend. I love them so.
  11. anybody know of- or going to- a place downtown with something to warm my frozen feet? brrr. but yay for (potential) snow.
  12. I'm so with you on this one! Maybe we can have a table of our own with that delicious onion bread and hamachi appetizer...
  13. Buena Vista Social Club, Bossa Nova, or preferably something in the foreign-language genre. But no instrumental. Must be able to sing along.
  14. does the party have to revolve aroudn a meal? Why not just head over to Vidalia and get some nibbles with a couple glasses of wine? Maybe McCormick and icks?
  15. Yes! Tango Grill: www.tangogrillny.com Argintinean/Italian. Very busy, but great service. Get the yucca fries- oh they are to die for. Also my parents (who live in the area) are very fond of Trotter's (on weeknights only). If you venture outside White Plains PM me and I'll give you more recs.
  16. Cafe Asia delivers, so does Sushi-Go-Round and their Thai Chili cohorts. Still looking for good Chinese though (and I thought I lived in Chinatown...)
  17. is there a reason this thread is mispelled, other than to provoke the French grammar police in my head?
  18. thinking of grabbing a drink somewhere downtown or chinatown area in about 15 min...
  19. Not an ethnic market but try the "ethnic foods" section of Whole Foods on P Street for corn husks.
