  1. I ask this sincerely: Why? Is it the corporate association? If a local farmer raised free-range birds in the most humane way possible, but included GMO corn in the feed, would you avoid his eggs?
  2. Funny you should ask...Click Spoiler alert: People can't tell the difference in taste between factory farmed and free-range organic. (Also, throwing around "GMO" as an indicator of quality or taste seems off.)
  3. 1110 H St. NE is now home to Copycat Company. Downstairs serves dumplings and skewers, and upstairs is a great cocktail lounge.
  4. Time is a flat circle, man. Comet Ping Pong? They have pretty puffy pies.
  5. Yeah, I was just going on geographic proximity to your last post...
  6. Yes. The Aji Tataki was great last night, and definitely a conversation starter with nearby tables as we started crunching our way through the deep-fried carcass. It looks to me like the main component is eggplant, and it reminded me of the Iman Baldi at Trapezaria. Your literary clue suggests that Greek wasn't far off, though I think similar dishes are served through the Middle East as well. The carrots and broccoli throw me. It looks like food from 2 different restaurants on the same plate.
  7. When we finished with this, there was literally nothing left on the plate.
  8. I had lunch at Trapezaria last month, and had rice served in the very...stylized way that your picture shows. The vegetables on the side would be out of place though.
  9. Oh man...now I desperately want to try one of those. Bummed I missed the pop-up.
  10. I'm not vegetarian, though I have been eating much less meat these days. I tend to agree about the whole bun-to-patty ratio problem, but sometimes I do want an actual veggie burger...that is to say, a patty of vegetable denomination, served on a bun. Can there be tofu in it? Sure. What I don't like are the all soy-protein patties that are flavored to mimic beef. The other vegetarian sandwiches and wraps sound great, and there is definitely room in my day for them, but I'm going after a specific thing here. Location isn't terribly important as I'm just curious if notable versions even exist. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that they do not.
  11. This feels blasphemous to even put out there, but has anyone had a veggie burger anywhere in the area that they really enjoyed? I mean a burger made in house with vegetables/grains...not a soy/fake meat burger. I had a very nice one the other night at Brookland Pint (just make sure to ask for real cheese instead of that Daiya crap), and Woodland's Vegan Bistro on Georgia has an ok version, but not great. Bonus if it comes with good fries on the side.
  12. Could be, but it would seem that for a shop that has previously closed due to a perceived failure of the concept, they would want to be out in front with what they are doing...
  13. Not much to disagree with there...These days I have about as much interest in going to Taylor for a sandwich as I do to Subway. (Feel the same about ?&Pizza, to be honest.)
  14. Still great. I'm there with my son at least monthly. We love Pupatella and Ghibellina as well, but with Menomale so close by, it's tough to venture into the Northwest territories.
  15. I know they mix in a good bit of hoisin sauce with the pork filling...
  16. Lot of talk about the various great special events BR has run recently, but I want to add a note that they continue to put out solid plates of goodness nightly. I've always been a fan of their rustic salads, and the Belgian Endive does not disappoint. The Basque (country) Ham and Egg was straight up ham and eggs. Leaned heavily on the goodness of the country ham, but that's not a problem when the ham delivers. (They have a Basque cider on the drinks list I snagged a free taste of that was funky and weird, and perfect for the dish.) The Swordfish with Hoppin' John was perfectly cooked. I normally hate swordfish, mainly because I always overcook it and that drives me nuts, but Brad hit it just right. The black-eyed peas were al dente, which made for a nice textural contrast. The vegetarian Farro Risotto was hearty and composed mainly of toothsome portions of root vegetables held together with a mild goat cheese. Hearty but light, if that makes sense. Rounded out with a nice glass of a Serbian red wine, this was a dinner that was fantastic in how easy and effortless it felt. Glad I can walk out of my front door and land here in 2 minutes or less.
  17. Funny, because the octopus and white beans is exactly the thing I'd order for my 2 year-old son...easy to cut into bite-sized chunks, good for either a fork or fingers, and easy for Dad to steal bites from now and again.
