  1. I noticed last night that Le Tire Bouchon has closed and has been replaced with Villa Mozart.
  2. It is on Route 7 and I think it is in the space that used to be Harry's Essential Grille and, prior to that, Restaurant 7.
  3. Great, just what Tyson's needs. Another chain steakhouse. Wildfire
  4. I was about to post about this location, but Joe beat me to it. Joe is right about this location. It is right on the corner of Church and Center Street. While there is a NY-style pizza place 1 block away, I still think this could be a great spot.
  5. Paula and I ate at That's Amore about 4 months ago using a gift certificate that we were given 2 years ago. Even with the gift certificate I still felt we got ripped off. The food was average-to-horrible, and the red wine was served at room temperature, if room temperature is defined as mid-summer heatwave with a broken air conditioner. Hopefully, you will have better luck than I did. I have passed this place a couple of times, but don't know anybody that has eaten here. Anyone? Bueller? Mama's Italian Restaurant 9715 Lee Hwy, Fairfax, VA (703) 385-2646
  6. What dishes do you recommend? I have not ordered from here yet, as I just assumed it was like all of the other standard chinese restaurants in Vienna.
  7. Another shout out to Jason for a terrific open house. The fresh mint as wonderful. Even though I normally don't like fruit/chocolate combinations, I really enjoyed both the Apricot Tea and the Cherry Ginger. The Aged Bourbon was also terrific, as the bourbon flavor was very smoothe. However, the Fleur de Sel chocolate was my absolute favorite. Marissa's cooing and smiles provided some entertainment to all in the store, as she seemed to be happy surrounded by chocolate, just like her mother and father.
  8. Butcher's Board + Braised Short Ribs + Rockfish Cacciatore = Wonderful Last Meal Last Night Restaurant Kolumbia, you will be missed.
  9. Our oven has a convection setting, which I have yet to use. Has anybody had any success using the convection setting to make pizza? I would think that convection would minimize the problem of the bottom of the pizza being cooked before the top.
  10. My screen name on eGullet speaks for itself. Used to have matching avatar until I got reprimanded by eGullet admin. To keep this on topic: Restaurant Eve has good food.
  11. What a shame! Paula and I really enjoyed our meal back in July and have talked about going back. We will have to see if we can squeeze in one more meal before they close. Best of luck to Jamie and Carolyn in their new venture. We look forward to it!
  12. I was there on Sunday and, unless I completely missed them, all I saw was the flash pasteurized. Do you know if they just got it in? I may have to stop by again.
  13. Moby Dick in McLean might be your best option. Friends Kabob in Tyson's used to have falafel, but I don't recall seeing it on the menu last time I was in.
  14. Paula and I enjoyed a terrific dinner at Dino on Saturday night, which was our first dinner out without our daughter. We enjoyed the Burrata, Potato Croquettes, and the Wild Boar Pasta, which have been mentioned repeatedly in this thread. However, do not overlook the Lamb Pasta, which was fantastic. The lamb is braised in red wine with herbs and olives in an heirloom tomato sauce with a large tubular spaghetti. The lamb had a strong, gamey flavor (in a good way). What we really liked about this dish is that each of the ingredients stood well on their own, as the sweetness of the tomatoes, the saltiness of the olives, and the brightness of the herbs were perfectly in balance. Any leftover sauce was wiped away with bread. Our entrees were washed down with a half-bottle of Cordero di Montezemolo (Nebbiolo) Barolo, Monfaletto, Piemonte 2000. We decided to be gluttons and get both a cheese course and dessert. The chestnut leaf-wrapped Robiola was woodsy, a little funky, and delicious. While we also enjoyed the raw sheep bleu cheese (Erborinati di Pecora) as well as the Guffanti Gorgonzola. The rhubarb mini cake as well as the trio of gelatos (vanilla, chocolate, and pistachio) finished up our meal nicely. Thanks again to Dean for his menu recommendations, for stopping by to chat, and for making our first night out sans baby relaxing and enjoyable. We couldn't find you as we were leaving, so I will pose my question to you here. Will you please open a location in northern Virginia? Particularly Vienna, Virginia? I know you get lost driving in northern Virginia, but I promise that it is easier than you think.
  15. You know, normally I would agree with you. However, I saw what this thing looked like and, trust me, it was pretty...disturbing.
  16. So, did anybody from this community (besides Clark/Landrum) attend this event? How did it go?
  17. My cafeteria at work has a special today of "Jalapeno Cheese and Bacon-Wrapped Deep-Fried Hot Dogs". Defibrillator available for separate purchase.
  18. WOW! An updated website! This must have occurred over the weekend, since as of last week it was still the old website with the menu from 2003 and a "link" to OpenTable for reservations. Alas, we had to cancel our reservation for this past Saturday night due to an under-the-weather baby.
  19. I just stared at the opening page and thought that my vision was failing and I was experiencing vertigo!
  20. Paula and I will be dining in the back room at Palena on Saturday night. What is the dress code for the back room? Also, are there any good wine "bargains" on the menu? Do they have a Sommelier?
  21. The Fractured Prune location in Fairfax (Pan Am Shopping Center) opened a couple of weeks ago. Paula, Marissa and I stopped in on Saturday and tried out a few different donuts (well, Marissa didn't, but like most 5 week-olds, her diet is pretty limited). Pebble Beach: honey glaze, cinnamon sugar, mini chocolate chips Rolo®: caramel glaze, mini chocolate chips Morning Buzz: mocha glaze, Oreo® cookie crumbs The donuts were on the smaller size, but the toppings helped up the calories and fat content. All of the donuts were enjoyed; I particularly enjoyed the Pebble Beach. Obviously, these are not your standard donuts and are probably more enjoyed as dessert instead of breakfast (although the Rolo was not a bad breakfast the next day). While we were waiting for our order we spoke with either the owner or the manager who was extremely friendly and excited about the store. He brought us an "O.C. Sand" (honey glaze, cinnamon sugar) donut to try, which was also good. I was disappointed that we didn't get to meet The Prune.
