  1. I wish! We usually go to Pho Cyclo over in Merrifield, which is pretty good. It is in the same shopping plaza as Grevey's.
  2. I thought I posted about Rose Restaurant, but I guess I didn't. We frequently order carryout from here and have not been disappointed. The kabobs are very good, particularly the chicken kabobs. They have a nice char on the outside, but remain moist and flavorful on the inside. My favorite dish has been the lamb shank served with basmati rice and barberries.
  3. Don't waste your money or calories on the Beck's light...it's like drinking skunky water.
  4. According to a couple of employees at the Springfield Trader Joe's, the Chinese Mustard Wonton Chips have been discontinued.
  5. That was awesome. The carpaccio was delicious, especially with a touch of salt added. However, as others have stated, the seared Wagyu was the winner of the night. I am glad that each of the dishes was kept minimal in their preparations as it allowed the flavor and the texture of the Wagyu to shine. At this price point, I would consider ordering Wagyu of this quality again; however, anything higher and I would only order this on someone else's dime. Thanks to Don, Chef RJ and the crew at Vidalia, Chef Zeibold, Mktye and Hillvalley for putting this event together and ensuring it went smoothly. An extra thank you goes out to Mktye for holding and entertaining Marissa for awhile so that Paula and I could eat!
  6. I got the error message again this morning on my work computer. It looks like this:
  7. I got the same error message a couple of times from my work computer yesterday. I am not at that computer right now, but if I remember correctly, that computer uses Windows 2000 and Internet Explorer. Incidentally, I have not gotten an error message on my home computer, which I am writing this from. This computer runs on Windows XP and I am using Firefox.
  8. Wow. Fortunately, that hasn't happened to our pans. Thanks!
  9. Stupid question of the day: how can you tell if your pot or pan is de-anodized? Is it something visible on the surface?
  10. Either time works for Paula and myself (plus Marissa).
  11. Damn, I always wanted to dine there. I don't think I will have a chance to get there before they close.
  12. We grabbed a late lunch at Hank's on Saturday and Tom is spot-on with a couple of points in his review. While the raw oysters were good (particularly the Dragon Creek), many had bits of shell clinging to them. Onion rings were delicious, with the breading remaining on the onion ring with each bite. I was not as enamored with the fried oysters which were fine, if not spectacular. Service was terrific, as our waitress was very friendly and checked-in on us often. The table by the window is the best seat in the house, as you can look out onto King Street. It also provides enough room to park a stroller (if you need that sort of thing).
  13. We used Granite Granite Granite for a kitchen remodel about 2 years ago. Great pricing and great service. Their granite distributor is in Sterling, VA.
  14. Sushi Yama is usually packed whenever we used to go, so it was an absolute pleasure to discover Kansai Sushi. Paula and I have been going to Kansai at least twice a month since Marissa was born. They are also extremely friendly and family-oriented (they adore our 4-month old). The sushi is very fresh and the miso soup is good as well. We have only tried a couple of noodle dishes, but have been happy with what we get. The restaurant is never packed, which is good when dining with an infant, but I hope they stay around for awhile! Kansai Sushi 128 Maple Avenue, West Vienna, VA 703-319-1300
  15. The Daily Grill in Tyson's has Chicken Pot Pie on both the lunch and dinner menus. I just had lunch there and someone at the next table ordered it. This thing was enormous, about the size of a football!
  16. This week I made the Short Ribs using Michel Richard's recipe from Happy in the Kitchen as a guide. This is an excellent recipe, although it is a 2-day project from start to finish.
  17. I haven't tried the 2006, but the 2005 is one of my go-to "everyday" red wines that is also good to use in recipes. Can't beat the price!
  18. The Ritz Carlton in Tyson's Corner notes both a "Thanksgiving in Maestro" and a "Thanksgiving Day Brunch". I don't know if there are buffets or not. OpenTable shows that J. Gilbert's in McLean has a Thanksgiving Day buffet, which is not too far from the hotel. OpenTable also shows Legal Seafood and McCormick & Schmick's as having Thanksgiving menus, but I don't know if they are buffets.
  19. Also note that Google Maps lists the address as 115 Church Street NW. The address is 115 Church Street NE.
