  1. Rock Hall Definitely second this recommendation. I have been several times and have never been disappointed. Two times made a special trip there even though we weren't staying close by just so we could let others experience and enjoy the place.
  2. Not the best place in the world, but I think it serves its purpose. We just call it the spaghetti hut. If you are in the mood for spaghetti and a choice of sauces, some chianti, and a cozy place with a friendly staff on a winter night, then Radicchio will do the trick. We have only ventured off the spaghetti page once or twice, for the chicken parm and/or some other type of pasta, and I remember it being mildly average. Nothing to write home, or here, about, but adequate for a spontaneous meal.
  3. As a semi-recent (within the last 5 years) convert to the joys of Thai food, I felt compelled to chime in. We live in Clarendon area and frequently eat thai (as in 3 nights last week!). I am a diehard Sawatdee fan as it is always consistent and satisfying (and delivers), although the recent addition of the new Sala Thai in the 'hood has drawn me to cross the street many times. Suffice it to say, I think we have been to every thai place in NOVA. I have to say, however, that Thai Square is definitely worth the trip across town. The food is simply the best Thai I have had in the area. Never had a bad or even mediocre dish there. The eggplant is fantastic as is the beef pad kraprao. Even the old standby of pad thai is top notch. The kanom jeeb (steamed dumplings) melt in your mouth! If someone recommends a better thai place, please let me know, as I would be more than happy to have my own little thai challenge!
  4. After passing by almost daily, we finally gave it a shot. The butter chicken was amazingly tasty. We also had the chicken biryani. The chicken was a bit on the dry side. But thumbs up to the customer service. Since we devoured all of the butter chicken, there was quite a bit of rice left with a few pieces of chicken in the biryani. The waiter had the kitchen to add more chicken to our left-overs and it was enough for two meals! Any recommendations on other dishes there?
  5. Having been to McLean, Arlington, Georgetown, Dupont and Fairfax Moby's (I know...I am a Moby's addict). I think McLean is hands down the best of the five. Arlington has gotten better since it opened, but not quite there yet. For a quick, easy take-out meal after a long work day, nothing beats the joojeh/chenjeh combo from any Moby's.
  6. Perhaps I should have worded my post better and said overcrowded instead of overflow. Personally I don't think of it as an overflow place. I go there because I want to eat there. I simply meant that since more and more people are going there to eat or stop in as a "Ray's cocktail lounge" because they can't get in Ray's without a wait, that the service and attitude has gone down hill. I agree it is probably one of the best in the area, sorry Taqueria Poblano gets my #1 vote. The food is excellent and that is why I will continue to go back. And, once again, kudos to the pint-glass sized yummy margaritas.
  7. Having frequented Guajillo since it was harder to get a table in there then in Ray's, I have a comment to add. I always enjoyed the food and have no complaints there. My comment goes more toward the service and attitude since Ray's went through the roof. I understand the pressure of being a sort of overflow place at times, but don't take it out on me. Please don't tell me you won't seat me until my entire part is there, when the one other person in my party was just standing right next to me, just spoke to you to ask how long, gave his name, and said I'll be right back I have to use the rest room. And then proceed to give the two open 2 tops away and make us wait for 35 minutes for another. On a separate occassion, please don't hover over my table, bring my check, and start moving chairs around for the next party WHILE someone in my party has not finished their meal. In general, please remember that there are patrons who come to your restaurant because we enjoy the food and want to eat there and not because the wait at Ray's is too long. Notwithstanding, their top shelf margarita does the body good. So after one or two of these, I usually don't care about the service anyway....
