  1. I like it better here -- easier to see! And a place to specifically look for, rather than happening across while reading the restaurants forum...
  2. It's not in DC, and we've been picking up some tickles that others have not been getting the food to which they've become accustomed following the renovation, but Los Tios in Del Ray might fit the bill. Otherwise, cheap for 60 people in DC isn't something I have an answer to! Would Dino qualify as "cheap"? The food certainly would be great! And they have a separate upstairs that maybe they can get all to themselves...
  3. I think both Thirsty Bernie's and Tap & Vine are pretty easy to get into. Restaurant Vero, as well, though we have not been there yet. Both are in North Arlington. When I broke my leg, we really didn't go out much...we did go to Proof, who were wonderful about me having to have my leg up, but that's not in VA
  4. Has anyone eaten here? We went past today, and the interior was gorgeous!
  5. Well, shoot. This makes me less likely to ever go back Particularly this part: "Sadeghian will...turn to “convenience cooking”—buying everything premade that Stachowski had taken pains to make in-house.")
  6. It looks like we didn't post about our last experience here, mostly because it was not good -- expensive, bad food with lackadaisical service. However, Tripewriter somehow persuaded me to give it another shop today, and it was actually very good! I had the burger, he had the chili. This was one of the best burgers I've had since Ray's Hell Burger first opened...fabulous. The chili -- or the taste that I got -- was also delicious. It was 180 degrees from the first experience and makes me think it won't be so hard to persuade me to go back next time!
  7. I keep trying to persuade Tripewriter to reschedule his work hours so that we can do Lickety Split every Monday...maybe next year!
  8. We had an outstanding ham and (7-)cheese soup at the Evening Star Cafe in Del Ray for lunch today. Rich and flavorful and completely satisfying -- I wished I could take a thermosful home for dinner I finished lunch with the fried chicken sandwich on the jalapeno biscuit. Yum.
  9. It's probably too late for Cleveland Park, but to help others avoid making the same mistake we did, it's apparently either required or highly, highly recommended to make reservations for the Px -- we didn't and ended up very sad after a fabulous birthday dinner at Eve but not able to handle a 2-hour wait for the Px.
  10. Sorry we couldn't make it Tripewriter brought home the stomach flu recently, and we seem to still be recovering I know this dinner was great -- someone must have pix!
  11. Giant congrats (and woo hoo!) from Tripewriter and me Yay!
  12. Last chance! $65 for food, wine, tax, and tip, and $40 for food, tax, and tip! Can't beat it!
  13. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......
  14. *Bump* We still have a few spaces open for this dinner -- PM me to sign up (ETA: I'm giving them the final count on Monday, so sign up now )
  15. Hi all! Don't forget about this event -- a real steal!
  16. We missed you! But you and Kay weren't alone in not coming this morning. However, we ordered lots of lovely dishes to drown our sorrows in...mmm...
  17. I now have a nondrinking price of $40 for 5 courses plus an amuse, including tax and tip
  18. I can see -- and completely understand -- your fears and worries. I share them with you. I would never encourage anyone to attend an event that they felt they couldn't afford. In this instance, I was responding to those who had requested less expensive meals with information about a $65 all-inclusive meal. As there were 24 people at the DR.com event at Thirsty Bernie's last night, it seems that at least at this time, there are still a number of people here who are going to continue eating out and who remain interested in attending DR.com dinners. So for now, I will continue to plan them, to attend those others have planned, and to post about them.
  19. We are very, very full Lovely to see you all! It was great to reconnect with you, too, Flygirl
  20. Ahhh -- see, I think of these DR.com dinners as special occasions (Plus -- not to be difficult, but Tripewriter and I spent $114 at Thirsty Bernie's tonight for a meal that we both certainly enjoyed tremendously. So that's $57 per person for hors d'oeuvres, three excellent courses, and two fine beers each -- a good deal! And not far off from the $65 per person for hors d'oeuvres and five courses with wine pairings for The Liberty Tavern.)
  21. Just a quick note -- anyone who's interested in a lower-priced affair should check out the DR.com dinner at The Liberty Tavern -- just $65 per person, including food, wine, tax, and tip. Plus, it's what, a block from the Metro? Come join us!
  22. We've had two people drop out for medical reasons, so we have 18 slots left -- sign up now
  23. We have a reservation at 11:30 am for 12 people under the name "Anne." Because Heather's not able to make it, we have room for two more if anyone else wants to come!
