  1. We had a very nice dinner at LT tonight. We started with the always delicious Vermont pizza -- this dish has been good every time I've tried it. I love the ham and the apples together, and the crust is pretty darn good. Next I had the lobster pot pie, which I've had before. This was a new iteration of the dish, and I really liked it. In fact, I was thinking about saving half of it for lunch next week, as I had filled up on delicious pizza, but I ended up finishing the whole dish. We gave in to temptation and had the chocolate cake for dessert, with mint chocolate chunk ice cream. They have a completely new dessert menu here -- new dessert chef? -- and we liked this cake quite a bit. I miss the duo of creme brulee -- they were such a perfect size for such a rich dish! -- but the ice cream was easily as good. Others at the table had the Tavern Salad and the gnocchi, and we had a side of fries for the table. All the food was good, we could hear our conversation, and the service came with a smile. A very nice way to end a long day and a long week.
  2. Everyone seemed to be having a good time when we stopped by briefly this afternoon -- pirates and customers alike. I didn't get to try the food, but it all seemed to be being made fresh and to order -- maybe things have improved since it first opened? At least on this dreary day, it was an entertaining place to spend some time.
  3. We had a quick bite at Sergio's today -- what a surprise! Who would have known that such delicate yet satisfying pasta dishes could be found in the basement of a Maryland Hilton? We were charmed and have this spot on our to-return-to list.
  4. We had an outstanding meal at Dino the other night. I had the burrata and the polenta for comfort and the lasagna for dinner -- sooo rich I couldn't finish it! Finished with the avocado gelato. Loved it. The salt just made the cream of the dish glow...
  5. We would love to come! But that's the week my parents are visiting, so we're booked up... Enjoy!
  6. We were by this place this afternoon -- we didn't get to try the food, but we got to watch a whole bunch of plates go by, each looking better than the next. I think we'll probably be there to order sometime in the future. The roasted fish in particular looked great.
  7. Best fried chicken I've ever had is on Monday nights at CommonWealth. It's the same chicken Antonio brings to the picnics -- divine!
  8. Sorry guys, we're booked from here to eternity...
  9. Man, Banco, I'm glad I agree with your list! You seem to have some awesome powers! How about getting the Cheesecake Factory out of Arlington/Clarendon? I'd be forever in your debt and buy you cheesecake somewhere else in return
  10. I had a very sweet, romantic date there -- fortunately, it appears, the type of date where all you remember is your dining companion, not the food you ate.
  11. Geez, snark much people? Although you may not agree with this poster, he or she has done exactly what we excoriate others for not doing -- giving specifics about what he or she didn't like about specific dishes or other issues, mentioning things that he or she did like about the dishes or other issues, and mentioning that they had notified their server about the problems they were experiencing. Feel free to share your positive experiences about Vidalia -- and I know there have been many! -- but why attack a poster who has done nothing wrong but to share -- apparently without bias -- a bad experience at a restaurant?
  12. Had an amazing dinner at Evening Star Cafe tonight. So full -- almost 5 hours later -- that I can barely move, but sooooooo happy!
  13. We had an amazing time here tonight -- everyone was lovely, and the food and wine were superb. Highlights for me included the fish dish, with clams, mushrooms, bok choi, and a miso broth, perfectly paired with a lovely white that I've completely forgotten, as well as the squab with black truffle risotto. Fabulous. The only down side is that we can't eat here every night...
  14. We had a great evening here tonight. We LOVE the space! The bar, although we didn't go in, looked pleasant and relaxing. We ate in the dining room upstairs -- posh! We thought the chairs were super comfortable and find the sofas with swinging arms incredibly intriguing! We also loved the amount of space between tables -- it had a really romantic feel, as we were able to focus on each other and let the rest of the restaurant fade away. Loved it. We started with the chestnut soup and the scallops. I really liked the flavor of the scallops, and they were perfectly seared. The soup was nice and rich. We had the barramundi and the pork next. I LOVED the pork -- the sausage was lovely, and the peaches were perfect. The fish was not to my taste, but I could see the thought behind the dish. We finished with the banana crepe, but (in a kind substitution for me) with the whipped marscapone instead of the rum cream. They are still working out some kinks, but we had a great time! After dinner, Dave stopped by everyone's table, and we got to meet him -- charming He gave us the grand tour, and I'm already looking forward to dining on the lovely roof
  15. See, I really liked the white banquettes and the reduced volume -- I could hear my dining partner without making my ears bleed, which is always a bonus for me. And I do that that the pressures are different for Ray's -- it didn't just move locations, it grew dramatically, both in size and in numbers of staff, so it can't really fairly be compared to the old location. I think the only thing that you can compare as apples to apples is the food, and in our experience, the food was actually maybe even superior to what we'd experienced at the old location. The other things -- servers, space, etc. -- are all very new and should be experienced as such. I just think that maybe you would have judged the service/staff in a brand new restaurant a little more leniently than you judged the brand new staff at Ray's. Or, at least, I did.
  16. I can only share that although -- it being a new space with a lot of new staff -- there were a number of service glitches (one at our table, several at the tables around us) when we were there, we didn't feel rushed, pushed, or otherwise dismissed. I encourage those who have had a bad experience to perhaps wait until the first rush of customers has died down and the new staff have had a chance to acclimate themselves to this new space, particularly as I think we can all agree that the pressures at Ray's are different from those at many other restaurants, and to go again. I think you'll be happy you did.
  17. My cousin took her mom here for RW and reported having an excellent time. Apparently, the cocktails were a big hit with my picky aunt.
  18. I recently read that the Willard, in addition to the Round Robin, has a new room that's dedicated to single malts? Anyone know anything?
