  2. $15 for $30 at Radius Pizza (Note: In the details its for takeout or delivery only)
  3. I'm less affiliated with SFDC these days due to the new baby, but I wanted to let folks know about the Snail of Approval awards party happening in a week. First the Snail is intended to award restaurants and businesses who in general source locally. Nominations are done by the public regardless of whether the person submitting the nomination is a member. There are several places that won an award this year that you would guess would, and certainly lower flying ones that deserved it. I encourage you all to attend if you can. It's at Poste, It's $30 ($35 for non-members), there will be at least a whole pig and a lamb being roasted. There are also several other things on the menu, certainly a good deal. Oh it's on Sept 25th, 4-7. Ticket sales end very soon. This is not mentioned anywhere but the eventbrite ticket site. For more info go to http://www.slowfooddc.org
  4. $15 for $30 at The Wine Kitchen. As per usual with Specialicious, no alcohol.
  5. I work at 21st and M so it certainly will be convenient to me. Hope its decent.
  6. Wanted to mention the new Summer dishes at Radius. Tomatoes and corn are the main hitters right now. Most summer dishes have been mentioned up thread and I don't have much to add about their excellence (gazpacho, tomato and corn pizza to name a few) but one dish not mentioned that you absolutely must have is the new Summer Pappardelle. Grape Tomatoes, house smoked bacon, and corn, tied together with a butter sauce. Amazing pasta dish.
  7. $25 for $50 at Buck's Fishing and Camping
  8. Went with a giant group of friends last night and literally, ordered every non hot pot pot dish on the menu. Couple plates that stood out: the steamed pork dumplings with soup inside. These were, so so good. If they are still on the menu, order these. They were on special last night. Tofu fries, looked a lot like fries. Really good as well. I liked all the dumplings a lot, but the pork with soup is fabulous. Unfortunately I can't remember the noodle plates we got, since we ordered the entire menu, but both I tried were great. Some of us still got hot pot, (though I really wasn't in the mood) the wine marinated beef and the milk marinated beef were both good, and diff from Uncle Liu's. I do wish they had the big bowls they have at Uncle Lui's as a choice though. The two times I have gone, its been nearly empty (though it started filling up as we were leaving around 9:30). If you are in Arlington, you should def check it out.
  9. Interesting place to pick up a Mexican Coke..... Home Depot! I've seen it in the exit refreshment refrigerators at multiple Home Depots in the last month. Make sure you go to the contractor checkout if you don't see any at the normal checkouts, it seems to always be available there.
  10. As summer approaches I'm looking forward to the squashes and tomatoes I've planted. I've got some potato onions to harvest when it gets hot again, and the last of my spring lettuce. Sugar Snap peas are still going strong. A few Raspberries coming in now as well.
  11. No actually, I never have had a problem, portions are totally fine. Just if you want more meat and/or don't eat it as a sandwich.
  12. I went yesterday (to the Dupont one), and though it was good its certainly nothing earth shattering. I'm not sure I ever got the yogurt thing to begin with. They do have a good amount of toppings, and they have flavored yogurts as well. But really you would be doing just as good at Tangysweet or Sweetgreen down the street IMHO.
  13. The PORC guys have been stopping by my office at 21st and M every Thursday so I've had many chances to try their stuff. My assessment is that they are definitely worth visiting, but for the most part, stick to the pulled pork. Most of their beef offerings have been only ok. Also not really a fan of the sides. The pork on the other hand is consistently good. PORC sauce that they make is also quite good. They are also pretty fast, and they take credit cards. Tip: If you are not going to eat it like a sandwich, ask for the bbq with no bread. They tend to give you more meat.
  14. Jenna and I were in NOLA earlier this year and one thing I would add is if you are walking around in the Garden District (which is a cool area with nearly no tourists) check out Mahony's PO Boy Shop. Jenna had the Oyster Po Boy, and I had the Fried Chicken Liver one, and both were absolutely excellent. The oyster happy hour at Luke is still excellent, though oysters are 50 cents a piece instead of 25 cents (understandably so). The Frites at Herbsaint were one of my favorite frites anywhere. Finally, the King's cakes at Cochon Butcher are an absolute must. As is the muffaletta pre travel, though I also adore the muffaletta from Central Grocery pre travel as well.
  15. Finally went today with the wife and a friend, was very happy with the food and the space in general. Certainly, its a fancier space than either Hong Kong Palace or Uncle Liu's. I can't remember the prices at those places but it was comparable. It was not that busy when we got there. Since both our friend and my wife are pregnant they weren't up for eating much, and it was WAY too hot to eat hot pot so we stuck to the small plates. The zhang dumplings, a pork based one in a spicy chili sauce were the same as what is at Hong Kong Palace and were very good. The Chendu dumplings, I don't think are available anyplace else. I liked them, but everybody else were underwhelmed. Both were steamed by the way. We also got the green onion pancakes which I believe I have had at Hong Kong palace as well (and it was good). The one new thing I had was the mushroom salad which was made up of wood ear mushrooms. It's a cold salad, and it was quite good. Looking forward to going again!
  16. Great news for folks in Frederick, Md.... The Wine Kitchen is opening a new spot there! They have promised good simple food like the original, but at the same time the new spot will be different enough that folks will want to make the trip from Leesburg to check it out. They are targeting Fall from the sounds of it. I adore the Wine Kitchen and the folks that run it so I am really looking forward to checking it out when it comes up.
  17. I went again today, line only 10 minutes long. This time I avoided the fries and got a large drink instead of the regular which is REALLY small. The Shack Burger was way better than the one I had opening day. Less salty, cooked closer to medium than last time when it was well done. Thumbs up.
