  1. According to Morou's tweet he's going to run Farrah Olivia out of Kora's private room 4 days a week starting Jan 5th.
  2. Our winter crops are going strong but this as lperry has said next week will be the end with the consistent freezing temperatures. Going to experiment with low tunnels this year. After looking at The Winter Harvest Handbook, I'm anxious to try some of his techniques.
  3. Their pie truck stopped by close to me today so I stopped by for a few slices. I thought they were really good. $7.50 for savory pie slices, $6.50 for sweet pies. I got the SMOG, the BBQ pork, and a pecan pie. The pork and SMOG (Steak, Mushroom, Onion, Gruyere) were both very good and filling. They are served warm and it stayed warm on my walk back to the office. The pecan pie was good, but I'm used to a firmer interior. Overall though really good, and worth it when the truck is near.
  4. Sounds like the blade steak.... It's def an underrated cut. The fattiness protects the meat from getting too dried out. Thanks for stopping by!
  5. Coupon to Arrowine (Charcuterie and Cheese only) on Groupon

Bruce Saunders will be roasting a whole pig and briskets for some great BBQ. The festivities start @ 4:00PM. See you there!
  7. Delhi Club for lunch. A fantastic deal ($8.95 for lunch on weekdays, $11.95 on weekends). Oh and Liberty Tavern has a good brunch buffet ($18) as well.
  8. Bump. A cool free (well, with a dish to pass) event tonight.
  9. BTW, Jenna and I will be milling about with name tags making sure things are going well.... say hi if you are a DonRockwiler! -Theo
  10. Myself and jchao will be there. There will also be a pretty big crowd we have sold quite a few advance tickets!
  11. Just a little bump for this Thursday's Happy hour. Todd has said he will do something special for us, I know I am looking forward to it (rumor is arnancini is at least one of the items)! Hope to see some DR's there!
  12. Lunch and dinner coupons for CommonWealth Gastropub

  14. Don't snooze on the new pork from Babes in the Wood. It was a favorite at the Old Town Alexandria market till last year. Until now the only way to get it now is the twice a month drop offs in the Rustico parking lot.
  15. It's 4 savory courses and a dessert. And technically, if your stomach can handle it, you could get 4 entrees.
  16. Next month there will be a new Slow U: Slow U: The Amazing Norton Grape with Todd Kliman Thursday, November 4 · 6:30pm - 9:00pm Pyramid Atlantic 8230 Georgia Avenue Silver Spring, MD Join Slow Food University as we welcome Todd Kliman, noted author, and food and wine editor of The Washingtonian magazine. Todd will read from his recent book, The Wild Vine, the riveting story of the Norton grape, considered by many to be the only indigenous American grape capable of producing great wines. This is your chance to learn about this truly native and local grape, and help restore the robust, distinctive wines it creates to their rightful place on the country’s tables. In addition to a book-signing, Todd will also lead us through a tasting of Norton wines from Missouri, Virginia and Maryland. These red wines go especially well with the following kinds of dishes, so for the potluck, bring something inspired by the list so that we can have a food pairing. This event is free, but space is limited and an RSVP is required: send an e-mail with names of attendees to rsvpsuri@slowfooddc.org. Attendees must be 21 years of age or older. POTLUCK FOOD PAIRING We welcome dishes inspired in particular from the following list of dishes and flavors (which incorporates suggestions by Todd Kliman). “Finger food” appetizers would be the most appropriate. Please bring something that can be served at room temperature. We will be serving wine in “tasting” quantities – feel free to bring along a bottle of Norton wine to share if you have a favorite. In general, Norton wines go with food that has “big” flavors. Some examples: Sausage Meatballs Sliders (Sloppy Joe sauce optional) Barbecue Spanish flavors like romesco sauce, ham Venison, duck, game Grilled wild mushrooms Balsamic sauce Mexican Mole’ Moroccan food Flatbreads incorporating some of these flavors would be particularly easy to serve as finger food. We wish to thank our sponsors, Stone Hill Winery, MO and Chrysalis Vineyards, VA for their generous contributions to help make this event a success.
  17. October's happy hour will be at one of my top places in the area and a DR.com favorite, Radius Pizza! Thursday, October 28 · 6:00pm - 8:00pm 3155 Mount Pleasant Street, NW Washington, DC, 20010 For all of you that have not been, Chef Wiss always strives to feature fresh local and seasonal produce and offer it at reasonable prices. If you haven't been, you really ought to give it a go. There will be a handful of specials for this event TBD, I'll post them when I know. I'll also post the official blurb once it's ready. As usual there is no registration, just show up!
  18. I don't know about past iterations because I've only been in the last few months..... It seems like a great neighborhood haunt. As far as the "Wall of Beer" I think there are a lot of great beers on the wall that you can't find just anywhere, it's nice to be able to bring home a beer you have only seen on tap somewhere or to try something new. They also have a healthy supply of kegs if you want them. As for the beer garden itself, it's an awesome place to have a good beer outside on a nice day in a casual setting. They always have something good on tap, which changes daily. (And of course I think the butcher is great as well for obvious reasons.) So is it a grocery store gone awry? Yeah, but it's kind of great in a strange way. FWIW, the last time I went last week it WAS still open. I know there is a lot of chatter on the "save the westover beer garden" facebook page though. Seems like there is a good amount of community support.
  19. We are well into our Fall/Winter rotation now. Recently sowed some beets, winter lettuces, chard, kale and spinach where the green beans were. Peas will be in the same spot in the spring. The rest of the plot will be turned and we'll put cover crop and straw down till late winter/early spring when we start all over again. This time I fully I plan on getting an earlier start on the growing season, like February. Always seems like I'm behind.
  20. I arrived for lunch with a small crew yesterday anxious to try out this amazing deal. It definitely lived up to it. The place was moderately busy but it was very easy to get a table. The buffet was very solid, tandoori chicken, samosas, butter chicken, lamb vindaloo, and much much more. We were stuffed. I'm happy to say that the bread is all you can eat as well and they have some of the best naan I've ever had. Go get it!
  21. $50 of food/drink for $25 at Kushi on Groupon today.
  22. Chipotle-honey is the bacon you are thinking of. Thx so much we have been working really hard on the product. We are testing out a bunch of flavors now so new ones are coming in the near future.
  23. Sorry I haven't checked this forum in a while. My guess is you have some sort of blocker "protecting" your computer. It's hard to say what specifically without looking at all your apps and browser settings. Hopefully your friend can pinpoint it.
  24. Will be checking it out on Friday after work for sure.
