  1. To clarify- on May 1, 1909, the French government passed a law proclaiming that only the product made in a sharply defined "delimited area" --250,000 acres surrounding the town of Cognac-could be called Cognac. All other brandies, however good, must be called bt some other name. I hope the rumor of Ray's demise is just that, but if true, I will bring a bottle of both and invite all to join me in a toast to ray's and drink.
  2. Theoretically, Brandy and Cognac are the same product. Both are made by distilling wines or the fermented mash of fruit, which is then aged in oak barrels. The varying characteristics of different brandies are the result of differences in fruit and grape varieties used, climate, soil, and production methods, which vary from district to district and country to country
  3. Consultant- for what? It's one of the best places in town for subs and pizza. I agree with you, the white pizza-with sausage and pepperoni(my favorite combo) is addictive as hell. If we want streamlined or quicker service- the place to go is called Subway or Dominos- both of which suck snail butt. Call ahead like you suggested or hang out there and you'll end up buying some wine, cheese, pasta, cookies, or something else you don't really need at the moment, but looks really good cause your starving for whatever it is you just ordered. Somethings aren't supposed to be ready in 10 minutes or less or your next visit is $1.00 off.
  4. Okay folks, I was having a discussion about pizza tonight at the bar with DR. I mentioned the Broiler, which is a little orange topped store on Columbia Pike in Arlington. Its been there since I was a kid and its one of my favorite pizzas of all time. I love the Italian store- White pizza with proscutto, I like Geppettos for deep dish pepperoni, and I just tried a new place called Valentino's in Alexandria, on Beauregard Street, near Temp Asian, and really liked the pie. However, The Broiler is a little institution that I visit once a month. Their large and extra large pizza is a rectangle of thin crust, spicy tomato sauce and just the right amount of grease on the bottom of the box. Their sausage is a homeade recipe from the original owners who sold it about 4-5 years ago. It's awesome. Some may think it wont win any awards, but for this type of pizza i think it's one of the best around. It's also pretty well priced at $10.40 for a large-12 squares-with 3 toppings. You simply have to eat a piece on the drive home-or you can eat it there, but its a no frills place. Their subs are pretty good as well, especially the sausage and cheese sub with the crinkly cut french fries that are hot as hell and salted just right. If you have never tried this place, I highly recommend it. It's located at 3601 Columbia Pike-1 block West of the Intersection of Glebe and Columbia Pike. Anyway just my opinion and my first topic i ever posted, so hope you can try it.
  5. I'd like to apologize for your service experience at Dino and want you to be assured that I will personally flogg the waiter in question! I however, loved to be bothered by two young ladies at the bar----so please let me buy you both a drink that I will make sure gets to you and that you enjoy. I will also answer any questions that you have about the menu or me, such as blond hair, blue eyes, likes dogs etc.... I look forward to showing you the experience you should have had at Dino
  6. I have had the displeasure of eating there on two occations. Each time, the service was pretty bad and the server having little if any knowledge of the food. The pizza I got, was not the one I ordered. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, he replied that the chef likes to add items to the pizza on his own whim.. I asked why even bother having a menu if the chef is going to decide what you want to eat..a blank stare from him was my answer. The check was brought before I asked for it and the waiter stood there waiting for me to pay...this was at 3:30 on a saturday afternoon on the patio, so I let him wait. My opinion is that this place will close by April with any luck.
