  1. I think we can do that one (I have to check with Grover but I'm pretty sure I can make it). Shall I bring the Jim Carroll lyrics?
  2. Personally, I say if they can't eat soup with a big ball of solidified cow's blood in the middle, let 'em go hungry. (a Korean hangover remedy but I'm not sure any hangover is THAT bad).
  3. The $20 dinner at Joe's Noodle House is the 10th. Sometime after that? Were you thinking Etete? I've never had Ethiopian, so I'm looking forward to it.
  4. If it's all you have close and you have a hankering for BBQ, why not? If I remember correctly, the saying is "half a loaf is better than none". But if you have an honest to goodness BBQ pit 6 miles one way and Famous Daves 1 mile the other....FDave's loses...
  5. Good idea, I'll bring a couple of cases of water as well. (ZoraMargolis, would you add this to the list so I don't forget?)
  6. Slightly off topic, but ... www.dictionary.reference.com - copy and paste, ergo, instant dictionary.
  7. Don't worry, this won't be the last time for Korean. Will we see you at the Joe's Noodle House or Dino dinner?
  8. How can you not love a place run by "The King of Ducks"?
  9. Brunch at Majestic Cafe seems to be overlooked for some reason. Too bad, because it's extremely good. This morning Grover and I decided to make the short journey to King St and indulge ourselves. For breakfast, we had the following: Mixed Breakfast Fruit: A plate of grapefruit and orange slices on chunks of pineapple with a dusting of coconut. A very nice start. For mains, I had: Corned Beef Hash with Poached Eggs: A great homemade corned beef hash with two perfectly poached eggs. Not runny but with soft, golden yolks. Accompanied by stewed tomatoes and grilled toast. Grover had: BBQed Shrimp with Garlic-Cheese Grits: 6 huge shimp on a bed of Garlic-Cheese grits. Surprisingly good for breakfast. The grits were almost custardy with a distinct cheese flavor. And for dessert (as if we really needed it): Kaluha Pecan Pie and Apple-Raspberry Cobbler. Let me start by saying that my mother made the best Pecan pie I ever ate (probably true of everyone's mother, but ....), this was better. Smooth, not cloyingly sweet, perfectly balanced by the pecans. I was hesitant about dessert but after one bite, I ate almost the entire piece. The Cobbler was full of fruit and had a light flaky crust. The scoop of vanilla ice cream was the piece de resistance. Grover and I fought over the last bites (she won, she got the last of the pecan pie). Lot's of fresh, hot coffee and we left full, satisfied, and ready for the day. Well worth the Sunday morning trip.
  10. Hmmm, making self note: Change reservation from 10 to 11...done! 7:00pm tomorrow evening. Lighthouse, 12710 Twinbrook Pkwy. Rockville 70852. Just in case you need directions: Lighthouse in RockvilleSee you at 7:00 pm.
  11. We'll call today and make reservations for the group.Daniel, Dean knows all of us by sight. Can we volunteer Dean to meet us at Twinbrook metro Monday evening? Dean, DanielK volunteered to be there but you know the 3 of us by sight and might mitigate any confusion. Would you and Kay like to meet us at Twinbrook around 6:45?
  12. Which Ride-On stop is it? Jeez, I haven't ridden Ride-On buses in 15 years.
  13. What's the closest metro station to the Rockville location. We didn't even know there was a R'ville location until we checked in the Korean phone book. If there is a close metro station and someone can meet us there, I think we could do that.
  14. We're going to be back in Paris in November. Thanks for giving us a couple of new places to shop. How about Madrid?
  15. OOOps..didn't realize there were two. If you check the map, I pointed to the Annandale one. Is this going to create a huge problem?
  16. Which place did you go to? All of the lunch counter places at Super H take credit cards (in Fairfax anyway). We eat there almost every Saturday (we do our weekly shopping there).
  17. Grover, I and our erstwhile dining companion had tickets for Gil Shaham at the KenCen last night and so decided ot dine at Dish on our way. As the 'red-headed stepchild' of Notti Bianche, Dish really doesn't get much respect. This is a shame. For dinner, the three of us ranged over a lot of the menu. A sampling of dishes and our responses. Seared Diver Scallops: served as an appetizer with seared spinach with forest mushrooms. Two plump, expertly seared scallops. The mushrooms added just the right counterpoint to the richness of the scallops. Roasted Beet Salad: a dish that's becoming a candidate for the trite food list. However, the whipped Maytag blue cheese made all of the difference in the world. The beets were almost sweet and the Maytag added just the right touch. Very good. Muscovy Duck Breast: ordered by someone who "doesn't eat duck very often". Almost way too much of a good thing. A huge portion of sliced duck breast, nicely medium rare. Very moist and very tasty. All in all, quite nice, very tasty and very satisfying. Chef Chittum was there and came out to say hello and to check on us now and then to make sure we were enjoying the food. The service was prompt, expertly done, unobtrusive, and friendly. Truly a satisfying experience.
  18. Concensus seems to be 5 course (unless you have a really LARGE appetite). I've done the 9 one time and (for me) it was way too much. YMMV.
  19. I liked it so much that I said it was as good as my mothers...and my son's girlfriend asks if she'd going to make another one any time soon.
  20. We'll be coming from Alexandria (Braddock Road area). We can offer rides for 3 people if that would help (and getting to Rockville is an interesting experience at anytime)
  21. If you're really adventurous, a Black Forest cake would be REALLY nice (you gotta love a cake made with kirsch).
  22. As of right now (I think) Grover's list is pretty up to date. Feel free to filch that one. LIghthouse has a table in the rear of the room that will hold 18 people so that should be a good workable group. And just to confuse matters even more...we need another night to do dinner at Dino. Dean will not only have the $20 special dinner for us, he'll have neat drink specials as well. Interested? I figure around 12 for Dino.
  23. I think we have everyone enumerated but, having it in two places is probably a good idea.
