flygirl
Hi all In the three categories: dirt cheap, regular priced, and spendy - what three in each category are absolute must-dos, IYHO? Let's say you were leaving the area, never to return - at what nine places would you dine before leaving?
Sthitch
I guess it depends on where I am being exiled – but if say I were being sent to the Fed’s SuperMax it would be: Komi Sushi Taro – ‘sushi bar’ Bombay Curry Company for the wings Prime Rib for a big slab of beef and a crabcake Marcel’s for boudin blanc Dino’s for Italian wine The Broiler for the crappy ass style of pizza that I grew up on Peking Gourmet for Peking Duck And for the last meal Bilbo Baggins because it and Overwood are the only places that I can think of that would make me yearn for prison food. ktmoomau
Wow this is a hard one ok, here we go: Dirt Cheap: 1. The Italian Store for a Napoli sub if you need it to be sit down then sub in Matchbox for a plate of miniburgers then a pizza 2. Ravi Kabob for Lamb Kahari and chickpeas 3. Ray's Hellburger Regular Priced: 1. Central for just about anything, but the faux gras and rillettes would be on order. 2. Sonoma for an cheese, charcuterie and risotto cooked in squid ink with grilled squid (I am addicted to this dish) 3. Rasika which might lean on the spendy side, I dunno I don't think it is that bad Spendy 1. Minibar if you haven't been. 2. Marcel's for just about anything AND the boudin blanc 3. Palena's back room I haven't been to Komi, yet, so it isn't on the list.

DonRocks
hahaha pathetically, I've only been to Bilbo Baggins and that was about 13 yrs ago. I had dinner at the bar, solo, at Bilbo Baggins around that time, and my bill was $1300. (Note to owners: Yes, it was me who bought your 3 bottles of 1982 Mouton Rothschild and 3 bottles of 1982 Cheval Blanc, and took them to go. My fried tortellini appetizer was also quite good.) <Ramon Narvaez looks on and smiles...>

Kibbee Nayee
Hmmmm....good one.... At the low end, I would probably nail 2 lbs. of kibbee nayee (of course) at Lebanese Butcher in Falls Church, tear into a duck at Mark's Duck House and polish off a decadent burger with marrow topping at Ray's Hell-burger. [somewhere between low and middle, there's the happy hour orca at Clyde's or Old Ebbitt, where a $95 pile of fresh shrimp, crab, lobster and oysters is half price.] In the middle, PassionFish is my first choice, with any of their sushi rolls, or better, all of their sushi rolls. Then I'll take the grilled meatloaf with mashed potatoes at Majestic. After that, tapas at Jaleo or mezze at Zaytinya just about tops it off. At the high end, give me the chef's tasting menus at Komi, Restaurant Eve and CityZen.
wfolib
Well, it would depend on where I would be going to, never to return. For instance, I would not visit Eamonns if I were going to the Isles, or the Italian store if headed to the "Boot". Otherwise: Radius Ray's Hellsburgers American Flatbread Ray's the Steaks Brunch at Liberty Tavern Sushi at Kaz Komi and no, GennaroE, don't necessarily need to go more spendy, although Central and Proof are both on the "ToDo" list. ol_ironstomach
Thursday 12/10 my list appears to be: Category I >>> Tommy Marcos' Ledo (for idiosyncratic pizza, natch), El Pollo Rico, GSPOT (heck, I'd make an entire meal out of pies) Category II >>> Hanger steak at any Ray's, Etete or Queen Makeda for Ethiopian, Cantler's (or comparable crab shack within 1 statute mile of the Bay) Category III >>> Komi, plus two others I can't really narrow down. Dave Pressley
Not sure if it's cool for restaurant peeps to reply to this but whatever... Cheap: Italian Store, Pietanza, Delhi Club (Hellburger too, but the limit was 3) Mid: PS7's, Rasika, Proof Expensive (only because when I go, I want to drop some cash--not because you can't get a meal there for a good price): CityZen, Equinox, Volt
