Dining Out for Life – March 8th
It’s time to invite all your friends to join you for Dining Out For Life 2007! That’s right – you get to host an all-out fiesta with all the glory and none of the clean up! Sign up today to be a volunteer Ambassador for Food & Friends' 11th Annual Dining Out for Life, on Thursday, March 8.
We recruit more than 150 restaurants to participate that day – each of which donates 25% to 100% of their sales to Food & Friends. Each Ambassador will ‘adopt’ a restaurant, recruit friends to eat there on March 8, and be on-hand to answer questions about Food & Friends and encourage diners to make an additional contribution. There will be a brief training session where we will teach you the fine art of table hosting! Sign Up Now If you have any questions, please contact Meg Coffman, (202) 269-6878.
Help Us Ready Restaurants for Dining Out for Life ...
... by assembling and distributing Dining Out for Life promotional materials to restaurants around the area. Join us on Wednesday, February 7th, at 6:30 p.m. here at Food & Friends to assemble promotional materials for restaurants and then take some back to your neighborhood to distribute. Restaurant areas include: Adams Morgan, Capitol Hill, Bethesda, Silver Spring, Shirlington and Falls Church.
Contact Meg Coffman if you can help with this critical task; in your email, please include areas where you are willing to distribute materials to restaurants. We will have pizza for all!

Check some of the other regions in addition to "Downtown". For example, Corduroy is listed under Logan Circle even though it is about 2 blocks from Luigino and Tuscana West, which are listed under "Downtown".It's strange how few downtown restaurants are participating. I just used the web site to pull them up and came up with four.

Don't forget to make plans to eat out this Thursday night at one of the more than 150 restaurants participating in Dining Out for Life. If you feel the need to really put up bonus points, check out the list to see which places are signed up for lunch AND dinner, and give that brown bag a rest!
Now for the plus: if you are bummed out because you have plans on Thursday that preclude you from participating in DOL, I have the perfect opportunity to join in the fun on Wednesday night, March 4th.
The folks at CommonWealth have generously agreed to host a happy hour from 6 to 7:30 on Wednesday night to kick off the fundraiser with Food & Friends' executive director guest bartending (which will be a site to see, trust me). Bring friends, family, co-workers or just little ole you to help us make this year's Dining Out for Life a huge success. Hope to see you all there!

If you're like me and were looking for a list of places for tonight, the link to the list of participating restaurants is borked this morning (of all days, today!). There is an older WaPo post containing a list, but I don't know how up to date it is. All of the other sites I found just had links to the official list.Promise this is the last post, but it's a good one! If for some reason you can't go out to dinner tonight, but you want to help out a great cause, consider making a donation online (any size - grossly generous down to a buck). In doing so, not only will you be helping Food & Friends continue supplying meals to people with serious illnesses, BUT you will be entered into a drawing for two roundtrip tickets on American Airlines. If you are going to a DOL restaurant tonight AND want to enter the drawing, talk to one of the Brand Ambassadors on site about the special envelopes they're carrying.
What's that they say about good karma?

I used it, thinking of dinner, and saw that Sala Thai here in Ashburn was participating, so I went over there for lunch. We'll see if I make it out for dinner...

To make the day the resounding success it should be, Food & Friends is calling on volunteers to act as “ambassadors” to represent Food & Friends at each restaurant. Ambassadors will visit the diners’ tables, thank them for coming out to support such a great cause, sign the diners up for the free sweepstakes and receive any extra contribution the diner may wish to give. Without volunteers, Food & Friends would not be able to continue home-delivering life-sustaining meals to thousands of area residents. Becoming an ambassador is an excellent way to help the community while having a great time. For more information, contact Eliza Yoder, Special Events Assistant, at eyoder@foodandfriends.org or 202.269.6826.

Don't forget that Dining Out for Life is tomorrow - Thursday, March 11.
Details here.
There are lots of places to choose from for lunch, dinner - and even breakfast (well, only one choice for breakfast).
If you're dining out tomorrow, why not do it somewhere that will donate some of their proceeds to a great cause!
And if there's anyone in the Courthouse/Clarendon area who'd like to meet up for lunch at one of the participating restaurants, shoot me a PM.

Bumpity, bump - it's that time of the year!
Next Thursday, April 26.
List of participating restaurants.
Special note of thanks to the following restaurants who donated at least 50% of proceeds (from a purely business perspective, Freddie's made a brilliant move by donating that extra 10% - it bumped them right to the top of the list). Maybe people can reward these restaurants for their generosity by dining there on a regular night?
