  1. Any other recommendations in the middle ground between the not-recommended Cuisinart ($45) and the overkill Lello ($200)? I'm only looking to make like 1-2 quarts at a time, and I haven't made ice cream since I was a kid. This dual-bowl Cuisinart ($72) looks like it might do the trick (two flavors at once!) but I'm wary of going Cuisinart if that other model is not recommended. Or maybe the KitchenAid ice cream attachment ($72)? Would be nice to use an existing appliance and take up less space...
  2. Yea, I use the KitchenAid and this is how I get around the disk getting clogged. It takes longer on the carving/trimming side, but saves you time on the grinding side (when heat can be an issue) and you end up with a less gristly product. Or at least that's how I justify it.
  3. Indicator for "new PM" just popped up for a PM that I received (and read) on July 9. My guess is that they're doing some sort of bulk modification of PMs and it's totally throwing stuff out of whack.
  4. I'm with Dean on this one. You haven't lived til you've had pork belly confit.
  5. RSS feeds are still totally busted...it's sending up the first post in threads, apparently randomly.
  6. I've enjoyed it as a lunch special at Mehak in Chinatown.
  7. Yup, 151 "Conversations" restored, mostly with red "X"s, with hover-text indicating that means each is a "Deleted Message". Only 4 are marked as not deleted, and oddly, those are the ones I imagine I might've actually deleted (one was about VaFoodNut, hahaha)
  8. RSS feeds. Praise be to Invision, despite all the other issues folks are having. And I'll add some wood to the fire: I'd love to be able to disable the "attachments" section by default. I so rarely use this feature, and it takes up a bunch of screen real estate (especially annoying on this POS laptop I'm stuck using until I get my home desktop working again). Also, as to comestibles' questions: You can still edit posts. The button is next to "Reply" and "Multiquote" in the bottom right. The friends feature has been there forever, it was just buried in the profile stuff before. You can disable it. I don't see the "personal conversations" feature, but I don't really see a problem with having more real-time conversations off-forum, if that's what the feature is. Edit: I take it back. RSS feeds are all chronological rather than reverse-chron. Hopefully that gets fixed soon.
  9. Unless things have changed, I don't remember either of these excellent bars having anything useful beer-wise. Corduroy's beer selection was always a particular disappointment.
  10. Never saw any of the Shipyard seasonals in DC area, but Joe Riley at Ace (among others) might be able to special-order you some.
  11. Vidalia usually has a couple good things on tap, and I don't remember it being too loud. Breadsoda on a weekend afternoon before it gets busy? Reef's rooftop deck, again in non-primetime slots (this might be your best bet if the timing works...the views are pretty cool, and they have a very solid tap list).
  12. Not the same event, but I'm pretty sure I wore jeans, a black t-shirt, and flip-flops to the Vidalia beef tasting. And yes, that's my norm. If I dress up at work, people thinking I'm interviewing elsewhere, and I rarely have time to go change between work and dinner. I want to have sex with Megan Fox.
  13. Green walnuts are out there. I started a batch of nocino and a batch of vin de noix last night. Anybody else got some going?
  14. 1) the brewery is totally worth a visit. gorgeous grounds. 2) unless they have drastically changed the recipe, you're not tasting hops in any appreciable quantity. maybe it's a more-than-expected bitterness from the orange peel?
  15. There are two options I can see: Brugs from Alken Maes (I've never seen it stateside) Blanche de Bruges (the brewery appears to have closed) Blanche de Bruxelles is a good sub, or St. Bernardus Wit for some more body/flavor. Both available in the area.
  16. Michelle counters with visit to Good Stuff.
  17. Last I checked, Dan's was indeed still open (I think I saw the door open while walking by, sometime in March?). And yes, it's easily one of the diviest places in town.
  18. I get all my wood from the internet.
  19. unibroue la fin du monde the end of my (dc) world, indeed
  20. rain or shine, my soggy ass (unless there's a rain-day location that I didn't see...)
